Welcome, welcome, welcome!

I always rejoice when new members join! :D

Laurinquë 06-17-2010 12:13 AM

Greetings!
I just realised that I never actually introduced myself here. I just walked into Mordor unannounced, very poor form I know. So here I go: Hello, I'm a bit new here. I just joined in 2007 but I know and love the Barrow-Downs already. My name, Laurinquë, is the golden flowered tree of Númenor, which in turn greatly resembles some trees I saw in Tolkien's native Oxford. Inspiration comes close at hand it seems.

Yes, indeed that tree looked very much like the one you drew on your barrow!
Welcome.

Introduction

I learned about the Barrow Downs through a school friend, The Great Elven Warrior. She talked about it so incessantly that i finally gave in and died, to her delight. I have always loved Tolkien's books, and enjoyed talking about them with people so i thought 'why not'? :D

Welcome! If you enjoy Tolkien's works there's no better place to discuss them.

Oh. I wasn't aware.

Lainadann 06-21-2010 12:04 AM

Oh introduce myself right. Hello:D Found this site at random. I began reading The Silmarillion again the other day and was looking for for a comparative map analysis of Middle-earth pre and post-Beleriand. Somehow ended up here.

Glad to be here.

Peace.

BD seems to collect awesome people. :) So you have a summer house on Naboo? I'm a veteran of the battles of Yavin, Hoth, and Endor. Well, my fanfiction character is. Anyway, hello!

Finrod Felagund 08-15-2010 06:29 AM

Greetings! I am (as you can see) Finrod Felagund. :D I discovered Barrow-Downs because of my sister, Lindale, keeps posting in here while I am watching her to annoy her.

I have already read The Hobbit and The Silmarillion and I am still reading The Unfinished Tales. I chose the name Finrod Felagund because I love the part where Finrod and Sauron fought by exchanging songs of power.

So, hello everybody! Live long and prosper! :smokin:

Pitchwife 08-15-2010 08:09 AM

Welcome again, Finrod! And yeah, that Gaurhothvision Song Contest between your namesake and Sauron (taken from the Lay of Leithian) is one of my favourite parts in the Silmarillion, too.
May the Great Bird of the Galaxy bless your planet!;)

Lindale 08-15-2010 09:17 AM

I can't believe that of all the names I suggested years ago for you, you'd pick now to join, and Finrod as a name! Anyway, welcome to the Downs my little brother. I never thought you'd get to understand my Tolkien obsession, but now you share it with us.. :D

Welcome Finrod! Any brother of Lindale's is an...er... brother of mine...? *points to screenname*

I chose "Finrod" because of the joke I made for you. Felagund. Man-lover? Haha. But still, Finrod can't rest in the Barrowdowns because he's not even a mortal much less a royalty (of Numenorean descent). Anyways, let the sharing begin! :smokin:

Thank you, Nerwen. It is usually a greeting to fellow Trekkie, but anyways, Live long and prosper!

The Great Bronsky 08-29-2010 11:19 AM

Greetings, everyone. I'm Matthieu Bronsky, a 25-years-old college student from Germany and a huge nerd about everything Tolkien-related.

I discovered the Downs fairly recently, and since I'm mainly interested in discussing the more obscure subjects concerning Middle-Earth, I immediately fell in love with this forum. After I had browsed the Archives thoroughly, I deemed best to register. Well, and here I am. :D

Inziladun 08-29-2010 11:32 AM

Welcome, The Great Bronsky. That's certainly a distinctive nick. ;)

Enjoy your time here!

Pitchwife 08-29-2010 12:10 PM

Wow, another fellow German? And sporting an Allen Ginsberg signature? That's an interesting range of literary tastes!
So welcome to the Downs, The Great Bronsky! I trust your appetite for obscure M-E discussions will be satisfied here, and look forward to seeing you posting. (Out of curiosity, where between the Alps and the sea is your barrow? Mine's in the Hunsrück.)

The Great Bronsky 08-29-2010 04:11 PM

Thanks for your welcoming words!

Well, in my opinion Ginsberg and Tolkien have more in common than one might think (in their message - obviously not in their writing style); hence this specific quotation in my signature.

Gelsenkirchen, Ruhr. Not quite like the Shire - at least not like the Shire after the Scouring. :D

Estelyn Telcontar 08-30-2010 05:57 AM

Nice to have another member from Germany! To visit me, you only need to take Legolas' advice: "To the Sea, to the Sea! The white gulls are crying..." However, my seaside location is eastwards, not westwards.

Welcome, and enjoy yourself! Do you have real life Tolkien connections? I can give information on the "Stammtisch" near you, if you're interested.

Nor in their lifestyle:D; but yes, I guess you're right. The Prof would probably have deplored some parts of Ginsberg's vocabulary as 'Orc-speech', but I'm pretty sure Ginsberg's poetic attacks on The Moloch would have found his approval.

Yay! I have a new brother too!

Ok, so here are the rules. I am an only child, and hence am not accustomed to sharing my things, especially my books or my laptop (and definitely not my mom) *growls*

Haha. Welcome to the Downs, sibling!
