Appendices Quotes

I did a search and couldn't find any threads like this, so here goes-

Basically, what happens here is that the person gives a quote said by someone in the LotR Appendices and you have to guess who said that and on what occasion.

Here's the first one-

Quote:

This cannot be borne!

Evisse the Blue 07-18-2004 05:11 AM

Said by Thrain when Nar told him of his meeting with Azog.

Fingolfin II 07-19-2004 12:40 AM

Yep.

Evisse the Blue 07-19-2004 03:29 AM

"Take counsel with yourself..."

InklingElf 07-31-2004 02:23 PM

Here's the rest of it said by Aragorn:

Quote:

"'Lady Undómiel,' said Aragorn, 'the hour is indeed hard, yet it was made even in that day we met under the white birches in the garden of Elrond where none now walk. And on the hill of Cerin Amroth when we forsook both the Shadow and the Twilight this doom we accepted. Take counsel with yourself, beloved, and ask if you would indeed have me wait until I whither and fall from my high seat unmanned and witless. Nay, lady, I am the last of the Númenoreans and the latest King of the Elder Days; and to me has been given not only a span thrice that of Men of Middle-Earth, but also the grace to go at my will, and give back the gift. Now, therefore, I will sleep.

Evisse the Blue 08-01-2004 03:15 AM

Well done! Go on. :)

InklingElf 08-03-2004 02:52 PM

Thanks! Sorry I took forever here's a quote:

"Azog! Azog!"

InklingElf 08-09-2004 03:15 PM

I'd really love to go on with the game so I'll give a clue as to who it is said to:

they are creatures of the dark

Firefoot 08-09-2004 03:23 PM

It was the warriors of Náin as they hewed through the Orcs to the threshold of Moria.

InklingElf 08-09-2004 03:40 PM

right on Firefoot! Your turn.

Firefoot 08-09-2004 04:31 PM

Thanks.
Quote:

I will await you.

Rinfanawen 08-09-2004 05:32 PM

"Take this ring, Master," he [Círdan] said, "for your labours will be heavy; but it will support you in the weariness that you have taken upon yourself. For this is the Ring of Fire, and with it you may rekindle hearts in a world that grows chill. But as for me, my heart is with the Sea, and I will dwell by the grey shores until the last ship sails. I will await you."

'Twas Círdan who said it, and a fine quote it is. I had forgotten about that one. Well researched, Firefoot.

Firefoot 08-09-2004 06:43 PM

Thanks. That's correct (as if you couldn't tell ;) :) ).

Rinfanawen 08-11-2004 12:38 PM

Okay, here's the next quote:

Quote:

"He will not return to this land."
There you go!

InklingElf 08-11-2004 10:36 PM

It was Glorfindel:
Quote:

“Do not pursue him! He will not return to this land. Far off yet is his doom, and not by the of hand man will he fall.”

Rinfanawen 08-12-2004 03:56 PM

Right you are, InklingElf. Your go!

InklingElf 08-13-2004 03:41 PM

Alright here's another one:

"But I am tired of poverty and the scorn of Men."

Guinevere 08-19-2004 07:33 AM

Thror to Thrain before setting out to Moria

InklingElf 08-24-2004 02:44 PM

Correct! Your turn.

Guinevere 08-25-2004 02:18 AM

Thank you :)
Quote:

Be off! We need no hearers.

Encaitare 08-26-2004 12:46 PM

Helm Hammerhand to Freca's men, shortly before killing Breca with a blow from his fist.

Guinevere 08-26-2004 01:47 PM

Exactly!

Please proceed.

Encaitare 08-26-2004 02:23 PM

Yay!

:) Here's the next one:

Quote:

Such is my fate.

rutslegolas 08-27-2004 08:09 AM

Arwen To Elessar at Elessar's death when she decides to reamin behind in Middle-Earth.

This is my 200 hundreth post ,so i hope its correct :D :p

Guinevere 08-27-2004 11:46 AM

Sorry to disappoint you, Rutslegolas, :( ;)
but it was young Aragorn who said this to Elrond in Imladris, about his (seemingly hopeless) love for Arwen.

Encaitare 08-28-2004 12:03 PM

Indeed you are right, Guinevere! Go ahead!

Guinevere 08-30-2004 12:32 PM

Thanks! :)
Quote:

...I guess that we share one trouble at least.

paavo 08-30-2004 01:19 PM

Guinevere 08-30-2004 02:06 PM

paavo 08-31-2004 08:24 AM

Encaitare 08-31-2004 03:50 PM

paavo 09-01-2004 07:56 AM

Encaitare 09-02-2004 06:25 PM

rutslegolas 09-04-2004 11:32 PM

Fingolfin are you there??

Fingolfin II 09-05-2004 12:39 AM

Ah, sorry, yep here I am.

Quote:

If you will cleave to me...

Firefoot 09-05-2004 05:38 AM
