Typos (or: Is it a Freudian slip?)

Haven't we all smiled at the strange twists letters take when we type quickly? Here's our chance to share some of those that inadvertantly give new meaning to the sentence in which we find them.
Quote:

...the froging of the Rings is not remembered by anybody living.
Here's one that has been posted on the homophone thread, though it is actually a typo, and what a great one!

Here is a recent gem from chat that Bruce MacCulloch has graciously allowed me to post:

Quote:

i tried the downs enclopedia bu tits not there i dont know whre else to look
Right, hon, that would be because the Downs Encyclopedia doesn't have entries for smut!

Raefindel 03-20-2003 10:08 PM

Lush, that's about the best one I've ever seen.

Estelyn Telcontar 03-21-2003 07:50 AM

Here's what one poster calls the part of the book that is left out of Peter Jackson's movie:
Quote:

the Scorning of the Shire
How appropriate!

Another misadventure:

Quote:

-But i got to dance!!!
-Lush loves to dance
-With the past-expiration date rat boys?
-Frat
Actually, Merendis, judging by the social scene at Duke, the word "rat" is rather appropriate. Also, the word "Mordor," but we won't get into that for now.

That would be the ruins of Tolkien's ancient ancestral home, I suppose.

plural of forum, Silmarien. I believe.

Estelyn Telcontar 03-23-2003 12:41 AM

Yes indeed - both 'forums' or 'fora' can be used as the plural of forum. For some reason, I prefer the latter.

I don't know if this was a typo or just a mistake, but I found it really amusing. It's in one of the quote threads.

There was one on the Chat just too good to resist:
Quote:

i have ot kicke out TOW MANY TIMESSSS
If one of you could translate that for me, I would be ever so much in your debt. I still can't figure out what he/she/neuter was trying to say!

Silmarien 03-24-2003 08:49 PM

I think whoever they are trying to say they've got kicked out too many times. Probably for using ssssssssssssss's like that.

Recently, in chat, someone made a reference to something that had happened

Quote:

Hm, I really thought I was the only person who measured time in eeeks! Then again, this same person had also decided to read a book

Susan Delgado 03-26-2003 11:54 AM

Wow, Belin, that's hilarious! Maybe she's just confused by this whole typing thing and can't quite figure out where the letters are supposed to go, so the ones she's not sure of she replaces or eliminates entirely?

I think they said:

Quote:

Nope, I said Annunfiniel had one of them so choose from those.
Now I want to know what they were talking about...

Then there was:

Quote:

* Arwen feels really week.
I want to feel like a measurement of time! That would be fun!

Here are some typos that (for some reason) are close to my heart:
  • anfuniel
    annufinel
    annunfineil
    annufiniel (whatever)

And the best/worst part is? The first two were in same post and all these are by one and the same writer! (For more information check the "Bad Guy" Trivia... )

EDIT: Oh, quick note so that no one thinks that I am being disgustingly picky: these are typographical errors that the people never fix. Some of them even deny the correct spelling of the words (and, if you know us, we make sure to try to correct them ).

Just wanted to make it clear that I know that everyone has a slip of the finger at times. I just like it when people admit their mistakes instead of getting offended and storming out of the Chat.

this one post was so full of mistakes I didn't know where to start or finish. So here's the whole thing.

i knw sorry ok i wil use the period thingy. u are righ talot of variations in elvish since tolkien never completed it so they expanded it. its ok to haev diff varations like as in chinese have liek two varations for one language like manderness adn cantonese. so i mean having diffs is ok jsut not like u know totally something a 5 year old made but i would like to learn them all. Grey company also has a place were u can learn uh the other elven language but its in there secluded dictonary. SO u can find it to learn that and other stuff ijust would liek to learn all elvish if i could well
Quel fara= Good hunting

i tink u guys are cool well later. and were these periods better hahah.
someone types a little fast

And how about this one

VanimaEdhel 04-06-2003 03:37 PM

Silmarien: Wasn't that from the Language Forum? You should've seen what it took to introduce that poster to the period. It used to be all one big, run-on thought. And she still doesn't get the concept of Grey-Company Elvish versus Tolkien Elvish.

Beren87 04-06-2003 09:59 PM

I just found this one in the Chat,
Quote:

"whispers to herself "u guys r so meen'"
Now what makes it really amusing is that she's mad because someone just called her a man. So is she attempting to say men or mean here? The world will never know...

Edit: Just found another one by the same person.
Quote:

y does mer keep kikin me out

Beren87:
Quote:

"whispers to herself "u guys r so meen'"
What I find amusing is that she managed to spell "whispers" and "herself", and wrote out "to" instead of saying "2", but she goes into "u" and "r", and misspells "mean", saying "meen". You would think that she would have said, "whsprs 2 hrslf 'u guys r so meen'", or, "whispers to herself, 'you guys are so mean'". The fact that she did a combination is quite interesting.
