insults.

another quote game.
You have to identify the speaker, the insulted, and the referrence (if there is one) of the insulting quote from a Tolkien book. correct guess goes next.
to start off

{qoute] dost thou desire the whole world for thy belly [/quote]

Edit: excuse me if for stating the obvious.

arcticstorm 11-20-2005 08:02 PM

Bergil 11-21-2005 03:48 PM

Kath 11-26-2005 10:00 AM

Impressive! Go ahead.

luthien-elvenprincess 11-26-2005 10:06 AM

I think this should be easy...

The Elves to Frodo, Sam and Pippin, when they were leaving the Shire.

luthien-elvenprincess 11-26-2005 01:22 PM

Yep!

Good luck.

arcticstorm 12-04-2005 11:20 PM

was it the mouth of Sauron to the delegation referring to Frodo?

Dimturiel 12-05-2005 10:41 AM

Nope, not that, sorry.

Sleepy Ranger 12-09-2005 12:53 PM

I don't think its a LotR quote...

Thingol to the dwarves who made the necklace I believe. It was when they asked for greater payment I believe.

Dimturiel 12-09-2005 12:59 PM

That's right.

gralin musicteeth 01-17-2006 06:30 AM

This thread seems to be dying....so here's an easy one to start it up again:

Quote:

Club-foot
I actually felt really bad for the recipient of that one. I almost cried.

Sleepy Ranger 08-20-2006 04:54 AM

To get this moving again I believe I shall give you an easy one. Almost too easy in fact...

Gandalf to Pippin in Moria.

the previous one is Turin Turambar to Brandir the Lame

Sleepy Ranger 08-21-2006 02:03 AM

Heh... maybe it isn't that easy. Gandalf to Pippin in Moria is not what I'm looking for.

Dimturiel 08-21-2006 05:18 AM

Gandalf to Pippin in Isengard, then?

Ah, Dimturiel! It has been a while. Yes, that is it. Your turn.

Annatar! 08-21-2006 06:42 AM

Can someone please quote the passage where Gandalf says to Pippin in Isengard "fool of a took?????? double checking it is found in Moria just after Pippin drops a stone into a well, can't seem to find it in any passages that take place in Isengard with the necessary charatcers. Gandalf does call Pippin a tom-fool of a Took though, (without being pedantic)

Sleepy Ranger 08-21-2006 09:06 AM

It is the 'tom-fool of a Took' quote. I just have an annoying habit of shortening/cutting away quotes like that. Just to make it a bit more challenging for the others. :)

Not like I'd cut words into half at random. Just in cases like this one where you can mistake it with something else. Its not the first time I've been tricksy at Quotes. :p

Anyway, welcome to the Barrow-Downs and I hope you have a good stay. I'll be looking forward to seeing more of you in Quotes.

"If we speak of poisoned tongues what shall we say of yours, young serpent?"

Saruman to Eomer. :)

Pardon me but, welcome back Evisse. Here, I'll steal this moment to knight you Lady of Quotes. In other news, the user above you is a Lady of Quotes as well. :)

Dimturiel 08-26-2006 07:30 AM

Yep, that's the one, Evisse. :)

Evisse the Blue 08-26-2006 09:54 AM

*feels honoured* ;D
I'll try to live up to it.

Do you need a hint? ;) It's from one of the Minor Works...
Or are they not included in this thread? :(

Evisse the Blue 09-05-2006 07:03 AM

They should be included imo, otherwise we'll run out of quotes to use...

But I think we're gonna need another hint to get this one. :)

Guinevere 09-05-2006 12:52 PM

Look in the poems... ;)

Glirdan 09-05-2006 01:24 PM

I do believe that was Bilbo to the Spiders in Mirkwood.

Guinevere 09-05-2006 01:34 PM

"The Hobbit" is not one of the Minor Works ;)

Glirdan 09-05-2006 01:39 PM

Awwww....well, I won't get it... (I don't have any of the minor works...)

Guinevere 09-22-2006 03:03 PM

Hm, it looks like I have killed this thread with this quote :(

It's from "Tales from the Perilous Realm" in one of the poems.

But if nobody gets it soon, I'll solve it and post another "insult" from LotR
