There were fifteen members of the quest for Erebor. As the goblins put it:

Yep, Bruce, that's it. Care to have a go?

Telchar 09-13-2002 03:06 AM

The number of days Frodo bore the splinter from the Nazgul knife in his shoulder... maybe?

Aiwendil 09-13-2002 09:37 AM

The number of years between the party and Frodo's departure.

Bruce MacCulloch 09-13-2002 10:42 PM

Either one of those answers I would have taken, but telchar got it first. Your shot. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/spiny.gif

HINT: Its the age of someone/something/somebody...

Turambar 09-18-2002 12:16 PM

Wild guess - Gimli's age during the War of the Ring ?

Nevtalathiel 09-18-2002 12:27 PM

Another wild guess - Bilbo's age when he sailed into the West?

Orome 09-18-2002 08:37 PM

possibly the age of aragorn during war of the ring? or when he died?

Orome 09-18-2002 08:38 PM

or the age of thorin when he left on the quest to the lonely mountain?

Telchar 09-19-2002 04:53 AM

Neither!
HINT2: Someone clearly states that this is his age. - So you dont have to do all the math and go through tale of years

Telchar 09-23-2002 04:59 AM

HINT3: (This will narrow it down alot) The Speaker that names his age is NON-human - NON-Elvish - NON-Dwarvish - and of course NON-Hobittish. Actually Its a creature that you wouldnt normally expect to be able to speak...

The Laurenendorian 09-23-2002 05:46 AM

Roac?

Samwise 09-23-2002 02:10 PM

Treebeard? http://www.plauder-smilies.de/sad/conf.gif http://www.plauder-smilies.de/nosmile/rand.gif http://www.plauder-smilies.de/sad/confused3.gif

Telchar 09-24-2002 04:48 AM

The Laurenendorian gets it - very good

I am Roac son of Carc. Carc is dead, but he was well known to you once. It is a hundred years and three and fifty since I came out of the egg, but I do not forget what my father told me. Now I am the chief of the great ravens of the Mountain.

Since The Laurenendorian has not come back to post a number, I thought I'd revive this game.

105

That's one hundred and five .

Samwise 11-09-2002 12:42 AM

Thank you for doing so. 105....Hm....have to think on that one...

Lady_Báin 12-10-2002 10:43 AM

can we have a hint?

Lostgaeriel 12-10-2002 11:27 AM

Yes, I guess a hint is in order; it's been over a month. Hmmm.

HINT #1: It's from The Two Towers.

the real findorfin 12-10-2002 12:46 PM

The amount of Riders of Rohan who attacked the company of orcs who had Pippin and Merry?

Lostgaeriel 12-10-2002 05:09 PM

Ooh, not quite. But you're close enough.

One hundred and five is the number of riders who survived the attack on the orcs at Fangorn. There had been one hundred and twenty. Fifteen men and twelve horses perished in the attack. (I had forgotten about the fifteen.)

Quote:

'Riders! cried Aragorn, springing to his feet. 'Many riders on swift steeds are coming towards us!'
'Yes,' said Legolas, 'there are one hundred and five. Yellow is their hair, and bright are their spears. Their leader is very tall.'
...
'There are three empty saddles, but I see no hobbits,' said Legolas.
Quote:

Further away, not far from the river, where it came streaming out from the edge of the wood, there was a mound. It was newly raised: the raw earth was covered with fresh-cut turves: about it were planted fifteen spears.
So there were 105 riders and 108 horses when they met the three walkers.

Your turn.

the real findorfin 12-10-2002 05:14 PM

4 - a clue would be Numenor!

Nevolosse Maehayanda 01-03-2003 03:44 PM

the number of palantirs?

Probably not...but a guess is in order...it's been nearly a month since anybody's posted...could we have a clue?

zacattack 01-03-2003 10:15 PM

I think it might be 4 Kings of Numenor before the sceptre was passed to the youngest son of Tar-Elendil instead of his daughter who was elder.

The Saucepan Man 06-24-2003 07:15 PM

This is such a great game that it deserves to be dug up from the Quiz Room vaults.

So, I will ask a new question, a nice easy one to start with.

What is the significance of the number 3019?

Beren87 06-24-2003 07:20 PM

Year of the Crowning of King Elesar?

The Saucepan Man 06-24-2003 07:26 PM

Well I had in mind the year of the destruction of the Ring, but that works too. So, you're up next, Beren.

Beren87 07-02-2003 08:52 PM

hmm..spiffy.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 07-04-2003 04:49 AM

The generations of the Dunedain between Arwen's birth and Aragorn's?

Beren87 07-04-2003 12:27 PM

As odd an answer as that is, no.

The Saucepan Man 07-22-2003 06:03 PM

Looks like we might need a hint here, Beren.

Beren87 07-22-2003 06:08 PM

Yeah..me too..I've no idea what the answer is.

Wait, no, now I got it.

It had to do with more than one book.

Lostgaeriel 07-24-2003 09:44 PM

This is probably not what you're looking for, but...

Quote:

Mr. Butterbur paid for it himself, and offered Merry another eighteen pence as some compensation for the lost animals.

Beren87 07-24-2003 10:24 PM

Nope, still not what I'm going for.

Arwen_Evenstar 07-25-2003 01:01 AM

Just a guess, 3018 the year the fellowship was formed...i think...

~nat~

Beren87 07-25-2003 10:34 AM

Your all making this much too difficult. =P

Cathelm 08-04-2003 12:28 PM

Just thought I'd jump in with a wild guess, but maybe...

The combined total of the Walkers and Riders?

Or also possibly the number of Aragorn's kinsmen that came to their rescue in the two towers.

Or... days days, how many days did they stay in certain places? I can't remember...

Probably not right, but maybe someone elses memory will get sparked.

Beren87 08-04-2003 02:58 PM

Out of the box people, think out of the box. As I said before, it has to do with more than one book.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 08-05-2003 07:43 PM

Out of the Boxed Set, perhaps?

Eighteen Middle Earth Books would do it, I suppose. 12 HoME+3Trilogy+Hobbit+Silm+UT= 18! *drumroll*
