IF ANYONE CAN ANSWER THIS QUESTION PLEASE DO,
I JUST BOUGHT THE THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRIOLOGY AND THE COMIC VERSION OF THE HOBBIT ARE THESES BOOKS EASY TO UNDERSTAND FOR A 14 YR OLD AND IF ANYONE KNOWS IF THERE ARE GOING TO BE COMIC VERSIONS OF THE LORD OF THE RINGS AND DOES THE THE HOBBIT GO WITH THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILIOGY

I have not seen the comic version of &quot;The Hobbit&quot; so I am afraid I cannot help you there.

They are not that difficult.
I first read the books when I was 12, and fell in love with them.I read them to my daughter when she was 5 twice and by the third time she was reading them all by herself.By the time she reached the 5th grade she had a college reading level!

&quot;The Silmarillian&quot; is a bit tougher, but once you get used to the writing style, it is very good. It reads more like a history book.

I hope you enjoy reading them. I wish it were possible to go back and read them for the first time!

I said the same thing in another similar thread Luthien..I read The Hobbit when I was 9 and the LOTR trilogy at 12..they are not really difficult books at all. That's also the last time I read both of those <img src=ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> I need to pick them up again...

I remember my dad reading them to me when I was about 7, and a friend of mine gave away significant portions of the plot. Read them quickly before someone else does that to you. I've since read the entire series several times. It makes wonderful out loud reading, especially after dinner. Only problem is, if everyone knows it really well, it can be silly, with adlibbing and inside jokes.

My dad read me the hobbit when I was 8, and i've read it 13 times since them. I have read the Lord of the Rings 10 times so far. The best books ever written. The Silmarillian was very good, but kinda hard reading.

I've read the books starting with The Hobbit. I think you should read them in order too, but you'd better start now because it's always better to read the books before you see the movie.
Luthien, i remember reading them the first time...i also wish i could read them again for the first time to guess and predict and be surprised. [img]smilies/eek.gif[/img]

I myself am 14, and I highly recommend to read them at that age. I've already read the main 4 books multiple times, and I'm retackling Silmarillion (I first read it when I was 12 and became very lost) It is reeeaaaalllly good once you understand it.

I've realized something. If my mind isn't clear and I keep thinking about other thinsg, it is almost impossible for me to resd the books. When my mind is clear I can concentrate. I'm 13 BTW.

The Hobbit is'nt hard at all I must agree (wich is understandable when his only purpous with it was for his children). I think it is the book I like the most [img]smilies/tongue.gif[/img].

The Lord of the Rings trilogy is not hard either, its only more beautiful written.

I like the Silmarillion. I dont know why but I really do.

There sure are a lot of great readers in this forum. I first read the hobbit and attemted the lord of the rings when I was 13. I fell in love with the books but I didn't make it as far as return of the king. It was just too long. I eventualy picked it up again and finishd it. I've since read them twice more and then the Silmarillion when I was 18 (last year). The Silmarillion facinated me because previously I didn't know of it's existence. I used to be annoyed by the appendixes at the end of the return of the king. It told you Morgoth destroyed the two tree's. It didn't tell you what the two tree's were, where they came from, who was Morgoth, where HE came from, who was Feanor etc. The Sil had all the answers.

I found an old copy of The Hobbit (I think it belonged to my mother) when I was twelve. It was missing the cover and the first few pages, but it didn't take long before I fell in love with the hobbits and the whole story. I bought the trilogy when I was thirteen and read all three books on a cross-country trip with my grandparents. I probably missed alot of the beautiful scenery of America, but at the time I was more interested in exploring Middle Earth. I didn't have any problems reading the books until the Return of the King, which I found to be difficult because of all the fighting and wars. My favorite book is the Fellowship. I have since read all four books so many times I have lost count. The best story I've ever read!

I read Hobbit when I was 4, and LOTR when 6. Um...I first read them in english (which is not my mother tongue) when 13 (exactly the same thime when I first read Silm... No, they are not too complicated, but your impression really depends on your age. At first, I just followed the exciting story. Afterwards, I descovered that not all is in the plot [img]smilies/rolleyes.gif[/img] . Anyhow, they are much different for me now...much better,more complex and stuff... But, I really wouldn't say they're complicated...

Complicated? Kinda, but well worth it I think. Took me forever to get into LOTR and get my head round the masses of everything but after a while I got on a roll and ended up hurrying to the store the day I finished LOTR to buy The Hobbit and The Sil.

They're less complicated than the anthropic cosmological principle if that's any help [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]

I think that a 14 year old should have no problem understanding these books, since My 11 year old brother understands them just fine, and I do too. I'm 13.(I'll be in just about 4 weeks) I'd recommend them to anyone around my age. Teenagers usually need a fantasy world they can escape to ocassionally when things aren't going quite right.

I'm 14 and I read the Hobbit when I was 12. After reading The Hobbit it became my favorite book and I was very excited about reading the trilogy, but I got caught up in other things. So I'm reading them now and I think they are excellent books for teenagers to be reading. I haven't gotten to Return of the King yet, but so far I haven't had any trouble understanding them. Once I finish the Trilogy I'm gonna go back and read them again becasue I'm sure I have missed things in the plot the first time through. Wow, Yenwyn that's really awesome that you read The Hobbit at 4, I'm impressed! [img]smilies/cool.gif[/img] Although I have been very impressed with a lot of things ever since I came to these forums. So many intelligent people here, I like it. [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img] I feel inferior, but one day I'll catch up...I hope [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img]

The Hobbit is very easy reading, LoTR is a bit harder, it's a very dense book but there's no reason why someone at any age couldn't get into it. It's one of those books that when you get into it there's no getting you out.
