Celtic Roots and Infrastucture in Book I
The latest essay in Ms. Seth's series about Tom Bombadil starts to tie-in Celtic and Christian folklore. The connection of Lugh to St. Michael is discussed along with other Celtic gods – including the Welsh 'Lleu' and the Gaulish 'Esus'.
One of the more interesting matters brought up is Welsh fairy lore and how possibly there is a reflection of it in Bombadil's seeming aversion to 'iron'. Perhaps even more intriguing is how Goldberry is meshed in via Welsh lake maidens and the yellow water-lily. https://priyasethtolkienfan.wordpres...fairy-story-2/ |
