Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas to all, wherever you are! I wish you the best of days in the holiday season. :)
|
Merry Christmas to you too. :)
Incidentally, I'm celebrating an entire 7 years on the Downs. How time flies. ;) |
Congrats on your septenary anniversary, Lush.
And joyeux noel to all! I am currently half way through an excellent bottle of merlot and listening rather nostalgically to Jethro Tull's 'Christmas Song', perhaps my favorite holiday tune: Once in a royal David's city Stood a lonely cattle shed Where a mother held her baby. You'd do well to remember the things he later said. When you're stuffing yourselves at the Christmas parties You'll just laugh when I tell you to take a running jump. You're missing the point I'm sure does not need making: The Christmas spirit is not what you drink. So how can you laugh when your own mother's hungry, And how can you smile when the reasons for smiling are wrong? And if I've just messed up your thoughtless pleasures Remember, if you wish, this is just a Christmas song. (Hey! Santa! Pass us that bottle, will you?) |
Nice to see you made a thread for this, I'll join in and wish everyone all the best for the holidays!
Merry Sol Invictus! |
Maligayang Pasko, Downs! Although, it's already the 26th here in the Philippines.

One of my favourite Christmas songs is actually by Dave Matthews. It's not very Orthodox, but it's beautiful and sad. Like this stanza, towards the end:
Father up above, why in all this hatred, Do you fill us up with love, love, love? ... And the blood of our children all around. And, of course, there's the Ukrainian Bell Carol, which is actually called Schedrik, Schedrik in the original, and has to do with a swallow flying in to a house and predicting a prosperous year for the family. It's a very haunting tune, for a happy, happy song. |
Merry Christmas for yesterday, and Happy Boxing Day.
Or, since I'm learning Russian: S Rozhdestvom! |

Here's it in Ukrainian: Shedrik And here's the Trans Siberian Orchestra's version: Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 |
*emerges from lurkdom*

Happy Christmas Eve (4:30 pm here at the moment) and a Merry Christmas to all tomorrow!
|
Ditto for what I said last year.
Hmmm...that's not very sincere, is it? *sighs* Well, it may be Christmas for some, but it's Festivus for the rest of us! Okay, channeling Seinfeld isn't very appropriate either. In any case, I'd loike to leave you wif' anotha Jethro Tull Christmas song -- in keepin' wif' th' season 'n' all, and wif' me previously posted pla'itudes. Lor' bless you and your'n. Through long December nights we talk in words of rain or snow, while you through chattering teeth reply and curse us as you go. Why not spare a thought this day for those who have no flame to warm their bones at Christmas time? Say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow. Now as the last broad oak leaf falls, we beg consider this: there's some who have no coin to save for turkey, wine or gifts. No children's laughter round the fire, no family left to know. So lend a warm and a helping hand: say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow. As holly pricks and ivy clings, your fate is none too clear. The Lord may find you wanting, let your good fortune disappear. All homely comforts blown away and all that's left to show is to share your joy at Christmas time with Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow. Through long December nights we talk in words of rain or snow, while you, through chattering teeth, reply and curse us as you go. Why not spare a thought this day for those who have no flame to warm their bones at Christmas time? Say Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow. |
Merry Christmas, everyone. :D

This is what went through my mind: Person 1: Pippin Christmas. Stop discriminating him. :p Person 2: But they're both Hobbits from the East of the Brandywine. Aragorn Christmas, anyone? P1: But they're both humans. That's discrimination. How about Legolas Christmas? P2: Or Gimli Christmas? P3: This is getting ridiculous... why even bother sticking to Tolkien? How about an Eönwë Christmas? P1 and P2: *simultaneously* Uh... that is Tolkien... P3: I meant the BDer  *spirals off into insanity* Quote:

So I expect all of you to wish your friends a very William Huggins Arbor Day this coming year. |

P1: So we're agreed on Meriadoc Christmas, right? P2: Yeah, Merry isn't his full name, Kalimac doesn't sound right with English, and Shagrat and Teleporno... erm... P3: Yeah, Meriadoc Christmas. P1: Right. P2: Yeah. P3: So how about New Year? We can't use Meriadoc again. P1: Or the others... P2: I kind of liked P3's idea before. We don't need to stick to Tolkien, let's go for other mythologies. P3: You mean like Njord New Year? P1: Or Prometheus New Year? P2: Quetzalcoatl New Year? P3: How about Hapi New Year? It has a kind of ring to it (no pun intended). P1: Pun, what pun? P3: Because it's a Tolkien forum... P1: Erm... ok. But yeah, I agree, Hapi New Year does sound good. P2: Yeah. P3: So we're agreed: Meriadoc Christmas and a Hapi New Year.
Happy New Year, Barrow Downs! |
Now that that's settled, are you going to take on Kwanzaa? (a little late for Chanukkah, I'm afraid:))
Won't be the new year for another 11 hours, here, but a Happy one to all! |
A happy new year to everyone on the Downs! I'm glad I can bring this one in with a black and green screen!
P.S. Thank you Eönwë for finally settling that. |
Happy New Year...at exactly 12 my time!
I wonder what this says, that I'm on at midnight on New Year's...huh. |
