The Hobbit Trivia

This is a thread stictly for trivia questions concerning the Hobbit. Knowledge of Tolkien's other works should not be necessary to answer any trivia in this thread. So, without further ado, here's the first question:

You've invited Kili and Fili over to your place for brunch. You set out a large meal of eggs, bacon, sausages, ham, biscuits, and pancakes for them to eat. They both seem very grateful. However, when you serve them both something to drink, Fili responds with a huff, "Uggh! I can't drink this!"

What did you serve Fili to make him respond so harshly?

Lothiriel Silmarien 07-30-2002 03:46 PM

This is a cool idea. I'd have to get my book, but right now I don't have it. I'll post later with the answer if someone doesn't before me!

Rose, the youngest 07-30-2002 06:30 PM

is it apple cider?

Musnud 07-30-2002 07:38 PM

Rose has it!

I also would have accepted Apple Juice.

Your turn, Rose.

Musnud 08-01-2002 10:30 AM

Well, since Rose hasn't posted in a couple of days, I'd say it's anyone's turn.

suicidal elf chick 08-02-2002 03:20 AM

Can I go? Here's my question, though it's easy. Where was Smaug's weak spot? I can't remember it, but I'm pretty sure my guess is correct.

Legolas 08-02-2002 08:36 AM

The left side of his chest.

Quote:

"Old fool! Why there is a large patch in the hollow of his left breast as bare as a snail out of its shell!"

Lady_Báin 08-02-2002 03:42 PM

well since you are right any way why don't you just go?

Legolas 08-02-2002 03:48 PM

Because you just wait for acknowledgement. That's how all of the threads are. If the poser of the question does not return for a few days, I'll go ahead.

Rose, the youngest 08-02-2002 06:34 PM

I am so stupid; I missed my turn. I swear, I am loosing it. I will do better next time!

Musnud 08-03-2002 12:36 AM

As starter of this thread, let me make some clarifications.

1)If you have the correct answer (and have been told so) but fail to post a question in two days time, it's up for grabs.

2) Please wait for acknowledgment of your answer before posting a new question.

3) If acknowledgement is not received in two days and you can provide evidence that your answer is correct (i.e. direct passages from the book), you may go ahead and post a new question.

4) The questioner may give hints at his/her discretion.

5) The person who answered the question correctly may pass his/her turn on to somebody else, if he/she desires.

Telephirion 08-03-2002 09:17 AM

Musnud: I recognize your signature as a quote from the wandering man at the beginning of Timeline! I'm looking forward to the movie adaptation which should be released some time this year, and which was filmed in Montreal, Canada!

Legolas 08-03-2002 04:18 PM

My question then.

What was the elvenking's weakness?

Arwen Imladris 08-03-2002 06:26 PM

Wine?

Musnud 08-04-2002 10:27 PM

A desire for wealth...

-----------

Telephirion, I just finished the book, and I was duly impressed. I'm also looking forward to the movie next year.

suicidal elf chick 08-05-2002 04:54 AM

I'm pretty sure Arwen Imladris was right, but we've got to wait for the other dude, don't we?

Telchar 08-05-2002 04:58 AM

We do!!!

Legolas 08-07-2002 11:42 PM

Wealth is okay...I'll take it.

I was really looking for something about treasures.

Quote:

If the elf-king had a weakness it was for treasure, especially for silver and white gems; and though his hoard was rich, he was ever eager for more, since he had not yet as great a treasure as other elf-lords of old.

Musnud 08-09-2002 03:01 PM

Okay, let's see....

Bilbo decided to invite Gollum over for tea and scones on a Tuesday afternoon.
So he ambled over to Proudfoot & Hornblower's Telegraph Services to send the invitation to Gollum's little cubby hole inside the Misty Mountains.
After receiving a message in return concerning something about "being delighted" and "talk about precious things," Bilbo returned to Bag End. As he entered his front door, he mumbled to himself, "I must write this down, so I don't forget."

Where did Bilbo decide to write down this get-together with Gollum?

His calendar! At least, I'm sure that was right, without looking at the book.

Beren87 08-11-2002 04:34 PM

Nope,
Teh answer is his engagement table.

suicidal elf chick 08-11-2002 06:07 PM

Bah, whatever. I knew it was somethin like that...

Musnud 08-13-2002 10:40 AM

Beren87 is correct. Your turn, Beren!

suicidal elf chick 08-15-2002 03:08 AM

Bah on you all.

Legolas 08-19-2002 08:14 PM

In his farewell, Thranduil gives a wish to Gandalf that he appear when '______ and ______'

Fill in the blanks.

The Rip Designs Dude 08-20-2002 11:40 AM

I don't think it was your turn. In fact, I'm sure it's not your turn. Very sure.

Orome 08-20-2002 12:58 PM

yeah it is his turn cause there was no post for a week

anyhoo the answer is:may you ever appear where you are most needed and least expected

Legolas 08-22-2002 09:53 PM

Yes, Orome. Please proceed.

The Rip Designs Dude, please tend to your own business and observe the general rules of the forum before chastising one who has spent much more time here than you have.

Orome 08-23-2002 09:36 AM

ok what did Beorn call Bilbo?

Kaze 08-23-2002 12:06 PM

Was it 'little bunny'?

Orome 08-23-2002 06:48 PM

correct. your go

Kaze 08-24-2002 10:27 AM

This is probably simple, but I can't think of much else--

Why couldn't Bilbo see the edge of Mirkwood when he climbed the tree?

Nilwen 08-24-2002 11:57 AM

Was it foggy? I can't remember.

Kaze 08-24-2002 02:06 PM

Nope. It wasn't foggy.

Mirkgirl 08-24-2002 02:59 PM

Even tho they were almost in the end of the wood, the tree was in the lowest spot in the surronding area (something like the bottom of a bowl) and it created the illusion that the end of the wood wasn't in sight

Kaze 08-24-2002 03:19 PM

Yep, Mirkgirl got it.

Mirkgirl 08-24-2002 04:16 PM

I haven't read The Hobbit soon so the best I can think of:

What was Bilbo's present for Thranduil and why did he make it?

Kaze 08-24-2002 10:08 PM

The gift was a pearl-and-silver necklace, and it was in return for the food that Bilbo took.

Mirkgirl 08-25-2002 12:43 AM

Yep, that's it. Your turn

Kaze 08-25-2002 09:45 AM

Another probably easy one:
What did Bilbo find in William's pocket?
