Middle-earth alternate letters missing quote game
The concept for this game is borrowed from another forum. It may prove
worth playing, if not too easy or if administrators don't think it too close to other games. Their call. So, a quote is posted with every second letter removed, with a dash replacing every other letter. The person who identifies the last element, whether it's finishing the quote or identifying the speaker, goes next. For example: W_a_/h_s/_t/_o_/i_/i_s/_o_k_t_e_/ answer: What has it got in its pocketses? Speaker: Gollum. Anything from The Hobbit, LOTR, the Silmarillion, or Unfinished Tales can be used. But also, how about including The Book of Lost Tales and HoME? However, if The Book of Lost Tales and HoME are used, I'd suggest not requiring the speaker of the quote to be identified, since it's quite possible many people don't have those books and/or have read them. (For one, I've got most of them but have read almost nothing in them yet). :o You do not not have to completely solve the quote to make guesses. The original poster will repost the quote with as much as was correctly guessed shown. Ex.: For W_a_/h_s/_t/_o_/i_/i_s/_o_k_t_e_/? Someone might post What/has/it/not/if/its/rock_t_e_/? And the original poster would put up: What/has/it/_o_/i_/i_s/_ock_t_e_/? So, how about: F_r/_h_m_,/m_/f_t_e_/b_h_l_,/h_r_/i_/B_r_n/_h_/b_a_e/ _h_m/_h_/j_s_i_g/_r_v_/i_t_/d_r_/p_a_e_/a_d/_o_l/ _a_t_v_t_/a_d/_h_/V_l_r/_l_n_/s_v_d/_r_m/_/b_t_e_/ d_a_h./_e_h_n_s/'_w_u_d/_a_h_r/_e_i_/a/_i_g/_f/_h_/ E_d_r/_o/_e_a_d/_i_/t_a_/r_v_l_/h_m. |
You know, I thought this would be easier than this...hmm...
"For/shame,/my/f_t_e_/behold,/here/is/Beren/the/blade/whom/the/joshing/brave/ i_t_/d_r_/played/and/fool/_a_t_v_t_/and/the/Valar/alone/saved/from/a/b_t_e_/ d_a_h./_e_h_n_s/'twould/_a_h_r/_e_i_/a/_i_g/of/the/Eldar/to/_e_a_d/him/that/ r_v_l_/him. That's as much as I can come up with, and it's not even much, if any is right. |
"For/shame,/my/f_t_e_/behold,/here/is/Beren/the/b_a_e/whom/th_/j_s_ing/_r_ve/
i_t_/d_r_/pla_e_/and/fo_l/_a_t_v_t_/and/the/Valar/alone/saved/from/a/b_t_e_/ d_a_h./_e_h_n_s/'twould/_a_h_r/_e_i_/a/_i_g/of/the/Eldar/to/_e_a_d/him/tha_/ r_v_l_/him. Actually, a good first effort. Especially since I got it from "The Book Of Lost Tales", which may be why some of the language sounds rather archaic. |
"For/shame,/my/father/behold,/here/is/Beren/the/brave/whom/thy/jesting/drove/
into/dark/places/and/foul/captivity/and/the/Valar/alone/saved/from/a/bitter/death. /Methinks/'twould/rather/befit/a/king/of/the/Eldar/to/reward/him/than/revile/him." Spoken by Luthien to Tinwelint when he scorns Beren upon their (Beren and Luthien) returning to his halls. Great idea, Tuor! |
Correct, Encaitare. I rather like that quote. It
shows a Luthien with a bit of an attitude. Your turn. |
Quote:

How about:
"We/have/t_o/_o_e/r_p_s./_e/will/_a_t_n/them/one/above/the/other,/and/ s_o_l_e_-/h_g_,/and/_n_t_e_/h_l_-/high,/and/_s_n_/there/the/s_r_n_e_s/ should/be/able/to/_r_s_/with/care." |

That's right, H-I. Hmm, my typing seems to have gone a bit wonky there, my apologies. I'll triple-check next time.

That is Mr. Baggins, a hobbit of good family and unimpeachable reputation.
Not sure of the speaker. Gandalf to Thorin before they set off on the quest of Erebor? |
That would be Gandalf introducing Bilbo to Beorn.

luthien-elvenprincess has the floor :)

Next one then:

Just that one word left now. |
Sounds like Gandalf in Moria. Provided that _a_t_r_/ stands for eastern...

You got it.

Okay, bear in mind the sources available for quotes:

Twas in the land of willows where the grass is long and green-
I was fingering my harp-strings, for a wind had crept unseen And was speaking in tree-tops, while the voices of the reeds Were whispering reedy whispers as the sunset touched the meads, Inland musics subtly magic that those reeds alone could weave- 'Twas in the Land of Willows that once Ylmir came at eve. Tuor |
Wow! Phantom be " 'da man".
I thought it might be tricky, especially Ylmir. P.S. Sorry for the delay answering. I had some chest (minor) pains and my doctor sent me to a hospital for tests. All turned out negative, but THERE AREN'T COMPUTERS IN HOSPITAL ROOMS! (Just a lot of sick people). Now I see a use for laptops. :) |

Aragorn to the Fellowship. He is speaking about Gandalf. |
Yep. :)

I'll try to fill in some words here.
