Synonymical quotes

This is kind of splicing the Backwards Quotes with the Antonym/Synonym fill in the blanks.

Here, you must find a quote, such as
"One thief deserves another"
and replace all the words with synonyms. So, the above quote becomes
"A single robber is worthy of a different one"
And everyone has to find the quote and the speaker!
Easy!

LePetitChoux 12-26-2002 05:42 AM

OK, I'll do one:

"A single sick rotation is worthy of a diferent one"

Now, after the example quote, this should be plain obvious!

LePetitChoux 12-28-2002 01:04 PM

Nobody? Or is this a bad idea?

Eärendil 12-28-2002 01:12 PM

I know which one it is, but not who said it.

"One ill turn deserves another."

LePetitChoux 12-29-2002 10:02 AM

Same person as before-Saruman. You do one now.

Eärendil 12-29-2002 04:56 PM

Okay, I found this very difficult, and didn´t come up with a good one, but here it goes:
Quote:

Inside a tiny moment I will take the path.
It´s in ROTK.

LePetitChoux 01-01-2003 06:40 AM

Quote:

In one small second I shall receive the way.
No idea. That was just a guess. Are any of the words I got right?

Eärendil 01-01-2003 08:37 AM

You got a few words right (in and shall...I think), but you´re still not there. Try again.

Orodoliel 01-04-2003 02:13 PM

This game's very hard. Is there another clue we could have that wouldn't totally give it away?

Eärendil 01-07-2003 04:30 AM

I know it´s hard. Though, it´s not because of the game itself, but because I am crap at finding synonymical words!
I will give a clue that will make it much easier; it´s in one of the Rohan chapters in ROTK.

Orodoliel 01-07-2003 01:37 PM

Is it:

'In a little while I shall take the road.'--Theoden talking to Merry, telling him he shall be left behind. --The Muster of Rohan

??

Eärendil 01-08-2003 10:48 AM

Phew, someone could understand my translation...
Of course it is. The floor is yours. *bows*

Orodoliel 01-08-2003 12:11 PM

Here's the next Quote:

'You should go with stealth, and you should go in a short while,'

Have a guess!

LePetitChoux 01-08-2003 01:09 PM

"You must leave quietly and you must leave soon."~Gandalf, FotR

Orodoliel 01-08-2003 02:39 PM

You are correct!

Go ahead when ready...

LePetitChoux 01-08-2003 03:01 PM

Quote:

"They shall not spoil you - if I do not ask them to. At this place, Hold! Tooth! Ankle!" he weeped. "Ankle, Warg!"

Eärendil 01-09-2003 11:26 AM

That would be Farmer Maggot to Frodo:
"They won´t harm you - not unless I tell 'em to. Here, Grip! Fang! Heel!" he cried. "Heel, Wolf!"

ElentariGreenleaf 01-09-2003 04:08 PM

WOO! THIS IS SUCH A COOL THREAD! I'll try on the next one. I'm sure you're right you see!

LePetitChoux 01-09-2003 04:12 PM

Yep, go ahead! http://www.smilies.nl/dieren/grommit.gif

Eärendil 01-15-2003 10:44 AM

Quote:

The advice appears positive to myself presently.
Thanks to my boyfriend who helped me with this one...
I´ll give a clue if it´s too hard.

LePetitChoux 01-15-2003 01:57 PM

"Your counsel seems good to me now"?
It sounds like either Gandalf to Saruman or vice versa, or Frodo to Boromir.
Or Bilbo to Gandalf.
Or...I'll shut up now.

Eärendil 01-16-2003 10:54 AM

The quote seems correct, or just about (don´t remember, will look it up), but the persons are wrong.

Eärendil 01-28-2003 11:09 AM

"The counsel seems good to me now" is the quote. Care to guess who said it?

Eärendil 01-30-2003 11:41 AM

Um... Anyone?

Diamond18 01-31-2003 12:28 AM

Aragorn to Gandalf?

Eärendil 01-31-2003 03:55 AM

No, not Aragorn. The Gandalf part is correct though.
Just for your notice, I won´t be on this weekend (no computer), so if you guess and know you are right, just continue. If you are not sure, wait till Monday.

Eärendil 02-27-2003 03:50 AM

Anyone out there that is interested in this thread? Would be a shame if it died out completely.
Anyone can post a quote now, as I don´t care about my quote anymore....It was Théoden to Gandalf btw.

Annunfuiniel 02-27-2003 05:41 AM

I shall try one!

"...provided that it rose a bit more up from the soil."

Hope a got it right, it's really hard to find those synonyms!

Rochelle 02-27-2003 02:17 PM

Isn't this Eomer to Gimli?

I think the correct quote is:

if it stood but a little higher from the ground.

??

Annunfuiniel 02-27-2003 05:18 PM

My congrats, Rochelle! Please, carry on.

Rochelle 02-27-2003 07:10 PM

Ooh good! Ok lemme see here...

Quote:

Steadfast employee, still chieftain's undoing

Solve this and complete the quote with the next line!

Arvedui III 02-27-2003 07:35 PM

Ohh I know this one!
"Faithful servent yet master's bane"
Talking about Snowmane

Rochelle 02-27-2003 08:09 PM

Yep!

Faithful servant, yet master's bane
Lightfoot's foal, swift Snowmane

Poor horsie killed Theoden King

*lol* You're go!

Arvedui III 02-27-2003 08:19 PM

Um, ok then. I'll try it.

Quote:

However, no idiot commaned the attack

Eärendil 03-13-2003 04:52 AM

...A clue perhaps?

HerenIstarion 03-13-2003 05:49 AM

May it refer to NN1?

Quote:

It was no brigand or orc-chieftain that ordered the assault upon the Lord of Mordor’s greatest foe

Arvedui III 03-18-2003 07:27 AM

Yep, your turn.

Sleepy Ranger 02-13-2004 01:00 PM

Looks fun

Quote:

Easy I guess :)

Evisse the Blue 02-14-2004 05:38 AM

Indeed. :D
Quote:
