Nice one, the thread is yours.

His death was caused by his escape.

I'm actually thinking Hurin.

Correct?

Eönwë 02-19-2009 02:47 PM

Sadly no

Inziladun 02-28-2009 11:23 AM

Khîm the Petty-dwarf, escaping from Túrin's band only to be shot by one of them?

Eönwë 03-01-2009 03:57 PM

Incorrect.

Maybe it would be better to say his freedom rather than escape (but the thing is, he freed himself, so to speak)

Inziladun 03-01-2009 04:51 PM

Intriguing. I'll have to give it more thought.

Eönwë 03-16-2009 04:01 PM

Ok, should I give a hint?

Inziladun 03-16-2009 05:03 PM

May as well. Apparently everyone's stymied.

Eönwë 03-16-2009 05:18 PM

OK. His escape did not directly cause his death. It was the reason he escaped that got him killed in the end.

Gollum?

No, but that's quite a good guess (well, at least in the way of ideas)

Pitchwife 04-12-2009 03:58 PM

If not Khîm, what about Mîm?
He bought his life and freedom by betraying Bar-en-Danwedh to the Orcs, only to be killed for it by Hurin.

Basically, here you conceal the person/thing/place/word/quote etc. (in short, anything Tolkien-related) in a cryptic clue. This is the same principle as the cryptic clues found in crosswords.

For once, spam has a useful purpose...

It's been ages since I did this and I'm not sure who it was originally (I have a vague recollection that it might be Finrod, but that doesn't seem right either).

So I'll hand this thread over to whoever wants it.

Wow, long since I haven't posted, but I the Quiz Room should be kept alive! :D

He invited someone for a drink.

Urwen 04-11-2010 09:05 AM

Do you remember one whose best friend married one of them who are fallen?

Eorl of Rohan 04-14-2010 02:48 AM

This is really far-fetched, but Beleg? Because, well, Turin married Niniel who cast herself into a precipice on learning that she married her brother.

Urwen 04-14-2010 05:51 AM

No.
Hint:AKKALABETH!

Urwen 05-04-2010 11:30 AM

I'll change it a little:
Remember one whose best friend was married to one of those who are fallen?

Urwen 01-28-2011 09:18 AM

All right. I'll give the easier one:

Remember the one killed by a spouse?

Not Pippin. Sorry.
