Quotes from The Two Towers (or Books 3 and 4 of LOTR.) Who said it, when, and why?

Quote:

You do not know your danger

Gimli Son Of Gloin 04-28-2002 05:55 PM

ummm... Farimir said that to Sam and Frodo, who had told him that they were going into Mordor by way of Cirith Ungul?
Am I right?

dragongirlG 04-29-2002 03:29 PM

Nope. Try again!

Gimli Son Of Gloin 04-29-2002 03:43 PM

Gandalf sid that to Frodo when he told him about the ring???

dragongirlG 04-30-2002 04:20 PM

Still no...I'll give you a hint, it's where you would least expect it and in a rather light situation.

Cimmerian 05-01-2002 01:50 AM

Eowyn to Aragorn as he set out for the paths of the dead?

Wasn't that a light situation....

Gimli Son Of Gloin 05-01-2002 03:46 PM

Gandalf to Saruman at Isengard?

Lindolirian 05-01-2002 04:42 PM

Gandalf to Eomer when Eomer makes fun of wormtongue.

dragongirlG 05-02-2002 03:58 PM

No, no, and no. It's kind of funny, actually.

Gimli Son Of Gloin 05-02-2002 05:45 PM

Fangorn(Treebeard) to Pippin and/or Merry?
BTW is this quote from TTT?

Lostgaeriel 05-02-2002 05:53 PM

For heaven's sake! It's Gandalf to Théoden, at the ruined gate of Orthanc, warning him about getting Merry (& Pippin) started on talking about pipeweed and family history. Gandalf cuts the monologue short so he can ask where Treebeard is. (It's at the end of The Two Towers, Book Three, VIII The Road to Isengard.)

Can I join in?

Lindolirian 05-03-2002 02:16 PM

Frodo to Gollum before the Black Gate when Gollum reveals his want for the Ring.

dragongirlG 05-03-2002 03:49 PM

Lostgaerial, you are correct.

Someone else may post a quote now.

Celebmundoiel 05-03-2002 05:02 PM

"He stands not alone" said Legolas bending his bow and fitting an arrow with hands quicker than sight, "You would die before your stroke fell"- Quote from Legolas. Book three chapter 2. He said it because a rider had said something to gimli and Legolas was standing up for him.

KayQy 05-03-2002 06:03 PM

No, you're not supposed to tell us who said it, you're supposed to let us guess. That's the fun of it!

Though I suppose it's hard for you to avoid telling, now that I look at your sig... :\

Lostgaeriel 05-03-2002 09:55 PM

Hey dragongirlG!
Don't I get to post the next quote? That's usually how we do it around here; the one who answers correctly asks the next question. Gives a reward and cuts down on the chaos.

So here's the next one.

Quote:

The murderous rogue!

Lindolirian 05-04-2002 10:43 AM

Eomer when Wormtongue threw the palantir down at them.

Lostgaeriel 05-04-2002 03:29 PM

Yeah, but he was (erroneously - well regarding that action, anyway) talking about Saruman. GO!

Frodo to Sam and Gollum at the Black gate?

Lindolirian 05-06-2002 04:14 PM

Close, but no pipeweed.

Gimli Son Of Gloin 05-06-2002 04:29 PM

vice versa? Gollum said it? One of the three said it when they were about to be caught by Faramir?

Lindolirian 05-06-2002 04:30 PM

I'll give ya a hint....
Book 3

Lindolirian 05-08-2002 02:26 PM

Mat_Heathertoes 05-08-2002 05:55 PM

Pippin to Merry at the eaves of Fangorn after just escaping from Ugluk and his possé

Lindolirian 05-08-2002 08:02 PM

yes very good Mr. Heathertoes.

Aragorn to Eowyn as the Riders of Rohan left?

Gimli Son Of Gloin 05-31-2002 06:03 PM

Eowyn to Aragorn as he departs to the Paths of Dead or whatever they're called?

Legolas 10-01-2002 04:55 PM

Gandalf the White to Aragorn when Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli see him in Fangorn. He is speaking of their imminent trip to Edoras.

merlilot 10-01-2002 07:09 PM

I love that: Close but no pipeweed.
Now that was funny.

Anyway...

How, in the name of Illuvatar, did it take you people so long to get "you do not know your danger"???? I agree with Lostgariel there: Good heavens!!

Just my two wafers of lembas.

[Note: I said that ^^ about the lembas on another board (non tolkien) and they laughed at me.]

Legolas 10-01-2002 07:55 PM

Gimli Son Of Gloin is whimsical and silly, merlilot...I wouldn't take him very seriously.

I don't know what was so hard about that one quote...just not many people swing by this forum.

If you look at the dates, you'll notice how spontaneous most people visit the quiz/quote forums. Not many come here anyway. They answer or pose a question and forget to check back. It happens all of the time. Many posts get buried and have to wait for someone forging through the archives to get brought back up.

Legolas 10-08-2002 08:53 AM

I know I got this one right, and it has been quite a while.

Quote:

Ever my heart rises as we draw near the mountains.

merlilot 10-08-2002 03:24 PM

I would certainly think it is safe to say Gimli on that one...who else but a Dwarf would be glad of approaching the mountains?

Legolas 10-08-2002 03:55 PM

Yep, go ahead.

merlilot 10-08-2002 07:07 PM

Easy, that's why its so short...

TolkienGurl 10-20-2002 06:05 PM

Laivine 10-21-2002 08:38 AM

charly 10-21-2002 01:38 PM
