Slain Game

A relatively easy game.

State the name of a character who is slain in Tolkien's works, and the rest of us try to think of who slayed them and if location is given, where they were slain.

I'll start with one that's not-so-hard.

Finwë

Rimbaud 10-08-2002 12:44 PM

By Melkor, before the doors of Formenos in Valinor. Melkor stole the Silmarils at this time.

Ancalagon the Black.

Legolas 10-08-2002 12:59 PM

Eärendil, over the towers of Thangorodrim.

Rimbaud 10-08-2002 01:03 PM

Indeed, sir.

Legolas 10-08-2002 03:04 PM

Draugluin

Telchar 10-08-2002 03:06 PM

Slain in battle with Huan hound of Valinor on Tol in Gauhort

Rimbaud 10-08-2002 03:10 PM

Drauglin was knocked off by Huan, Hound of Valinor, if I remember correctly. Another nasty dog-fight...

Indeed. Draugluin was mortally wounded, and returned to the high tower where Sauron watched. There he died at his master's feet.

Your turn, Telchar.

Telchar 10-08-2002 03:16 PM

Gelmir (my favorite)

Telchar 10-08-2002 03:22 PM

And on a side note I thin Scatha the worm was killed by Fram Lord of the Northmen - who afterwards send the Worms/dragons teeth to the dwarwes as an insult .... Its still Gelmir.

Legolas 10-08-2002 03:48 PM

The riders with tokens sent out by one of Morgoth's commanders and the heralds of Morgoth in front of Eithel Sirion. They did a really bad number on him, too!

Telchar 10-08-2002 04:03 PM

Yep poor Gelmir

Legolas 10-08-2002 04:08 PM

Azaghâl

Turambar 10-08-2002 04:48 PM

Glaurung ?

Legolas 10-08-2002 05:46 PM

When or where?

Legolas 10-08-2002 07:50 PM

No, the person being slain is Azaghâl.

Glaraung is the answer, of course, given by Turambar. He needs to give me the when or where part, and then he can proceed to posing his own question.

Eruhen 10-09-2002 06:20 AM

Can I answer? I know the full answer. Pleeeeeeeeaaaase????????

Turambar 10-09-2002 12:24 PM

He was killed in the Nirnaeth, not sure exactly where.

Sorry for not reading the rules !

Legolas 10-09-2002 09:34 PM

That is sufficient. Continue!

gralin musicteeth 10-11-2002 10:58 AM

Isildur?

Turambar 10-11-2002 11:52 AM

Mîm the petty dwarf -- by whom and where ?

Susan Delgado 10-11-2002 01:29 PM

Deservedly killed by Hurin in Nargothrond.

Turambar 10-18-2002 10:56 AM

Correct !! Sorry I'm late in verifying.

Susan Delgado 10-19-2002 02:25 AM

okelly dokelly

Durelan (I think that's his name, but I don't have my book with me to be certain)

Telchar 10-19-2002 04:16 PM

Are you thinking about Duilin of Morthond, who (along with his brother) was tramped to death by mumakil on the Battle of the Pelennor Field.?

[ October 19, 2002: Message edited by: Telchar ]

Susan Delgado 10-19-2002 08:13 PM

No, that's not whom I meant. He's in the Silm.

edit: I found his name at last: it's Daeron I'm thinking of.

Telchar 10-22-2002 12:31 AM

Ahh Tricksy Susan - If this is 'by who and whare', I say by nobody and nowhere...

Susan Delgado 10-24-2002 01:49 PM

You are correct, Master Dwarf

Telchar 10-25-2002 04:09 AM

Theoden

Turambar 10-25-2002 02:07 PM

Snowmane I guess . . .

Telchar 10-25-2002 04:09 PM

ohh yes

Turambar 10-29-2002 03:30 PM

Bolg the orc (son of Azog).

Telchar 10-31-2002 02:32 AM

He was killed in the Battle of Five Armies by Beorn

Turambar 10-31-2002 10:39 AM

Yep !!

Telchar 11-01-2002 03:26 AM

Gorbag

Lindolirian 11-29-2002 07:24 PM

Stabbed in the throat by Shagrat.

Legolas 12-04-2002 12:16 AM

Verification, Telchar?

Legolas 12-10-2002 11:06 PM

Well, just go ahead, Lindolirian. Telchar is missing in action.

Legolas 12-13-2002 10:38 AM

Or I shall go, I suppose.

Carcharoth

Pallando B.C 12-15-2002 06:51 PM

Huan, the Hound of Valinor.

Carcharoth slew him in the process, which is a shame because Huan was pretty enjoyable to read......
