Fill in the Blank

In this game, a quote or exerpt from the book is posted with some of the words missing. The next person has to 'fill in the blanks' with all the correct words, and then continue the thread.

This is from FOTR (you don't have to give a hint if you don't want to)

Quote:

Suddenly _______ laughed. 'Come ______!' he _______, and _______ out both his ____ he lifted the astonished ___, ______, _____-_________ and all, right through the ______ and stood ___ on the _____.

Beren87 11-05-2002 04:24 PM

Suddenly Gandalf laughed. 'Come inside!' he shouted, and putting out both
his arms he lifted the astonished Sam, shears, grass-clippings and all, right
through the window and stood him on the floor.

Do we have to wait for confirmation that we are correct to continue?

TolkienGurl 11-05-2002 04:27 PM

If you are absolutely sure it's right, then you can go. Unless the person specifies, of course.

Beren87 11-05-2002 04:29 PM

'Have ____!' said _____. 'I am weary, but I still _____ some ________ left, and Aragorn too. We will ____ the ______ _____. The ______ no doubt will make _____ to tread the ____ ______ us. Come, Master _______! I will begin
with you.'

TolkienGurl 11-05-2002 04:40 PM

'Have hope!' said Boromir. 'I am weary, but I still have some strength left, and Aragorn too. We will bear the little folk. The others no doubt will make shift to tread the path behind us. Come, Master Peregrin! I will begin with you.'

This is from TTT:

'________ warned __ not to go ___ into _______,' he said. 'Do you ____ why, _______? What are the ______ of the ______ that _______ had heard?'

gralin musicteeth 11-05-2002 06:24 PM

'Celeborn warned us not to far into Fangorn,' he said. 'Do you know why, Aragorn? What are the fables of the forest that Boromir had heard?'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
'I ______ that I was ______,' said _______; 'but I ____ want to _____ of ____. Let us _____ of what we are to ______ now! Let us _____ on!'
gralin musicteeth 11-11-2002 11:51 AM
OK, since no one is responding, maybe that's a little hard. I'll fill in some:
'I thought I was ______,' said ______;'but I don't want to _______ of it. Let us ______ of what we are to ____ now! Let us ____on!'
LePetitChoux 11-12-2002 12:42 PM
'I thought I was dead,' said Frodo;'but I don't want to talk of it. Let us talk of what we are to do now! Let us go on!'
Just a guess, really.
gralin musicteeth 11-12-2002 12:59 PM
not quite, but good guess!
TolkienGurl 11-12-2002 03:32 PM
'I thought that I was lost,' said Frodo; 'but I don't want to speak of it. Let us think of what we are to do now! Let us go on!' Chapter VIII 'The Barrow-downs'
Here's the next one:
Quote:
The _____ drew nearer. ____ had no ____ to find any ______-_____ better than the general ________ under the _____; ___ and ______ crouched ______ a large tree-____, while _____ crept ____ a few yards towards the ____.
Its from FOTR, if that helps at all. I also filled in a few words, just to keep the thread going.
The hoofs drew nearer. They had no time to find any hiding-place better than the general darkness under the trees; Sam and Pippin crouched behind a large tree-bole, while Frodo crept back a few yards towards the lane. FotR ch3 Three is company.
TolkienGurl 11-17-2002 03:12 PM
your turn!
___ could not guess what had ____ the ___ ___ (2 words), but he saw that all was ___, and that ___ meant to ___ him at any ___.
Arwen1858 11-19-2002 12:39 AM
Quote:
Bilbo could not guess what had maddened the wretched creature, but he saw that all was up, and that Gollum meant to murder him at any rate.
The Hobbit
hobbitlass 11-19-2002 12:10 PM
So then Arwen comes along and posts a blank to throw Gollum off the scent and give Bilbo time to escape.
Arwen1858 11-20-2002 01:32 PM
'Say not _______, but if you say _______, then ______ you will ______ the ______,' said ________.
Arwen1858 11-22-2002 04:42 PM
I'll tell y'all who said it, if you want a hint.
Arwen
Aramacil 11-23-2002 07:39 AM
Yes, I think it would be useful if you give a hint.
"Say not unscathed, but if you say unchanged, then maybe you will speak the truth," siad Aragorn.
To Boromir, regarding people who have passed through Lothlorien.
Orodoliel 11-23-2002 12:57 PM
Do I have to wait for confirmation?
If not here's the next quote:
"This is no ______ for such _____ as ______, as I have told you," said ______.
Arwen1858 11-23-2002 08:21 PM
very good, Orodoliel!
Arwen
Orodoliel 11-25-2002 12:14 PM
No one seems to know so i'll put in another word to make it a bit easier:
"This is no journey for such _____ as ______, as I have told you," said ______.
Orodoliel 11-27-2002 12:15 PM
Antone want to make a guess?
-Imrahil- 11-27-2002 07:58 PM
I think its said by Elrond? Possibly at the council?
Close?
Lostgaeriel 11-28-2002 12:21 AM
It is Théoden speaking to Merry in The Muster of Rohan.
Quote:
'This is no journey for such steeds as Stybba, as I have told you,' said Théoden.
Give me some time to come up with a new one, please.
OK. I don't think this is very difficult, but I like the passage very much.
Quote:
‘Here is the _____ of _____ on earth,’ he said, ‘and here my _____ dwells ever, unless there be a _____ beyond the dark _____ that we still must _____, you and I. Come with me!’ And taking _____ hand in his, he left the _____ of _____ _____ and came there never again as _____ _____.
[ November 28, 2002: Message edited by: Lostgaeriel ]
Orodoliel 11-29-2002 12:14 PM
"Here is the heart of Elvendom on earth," he sais, "and here my heart dwells ever, unless there be a light beyondthe dark roads that we still must tread, you and I. Come with me!" And taking Frodo's hand in his, he left the hill of Cerin Amroth and came there never again as living man.
I'm absolutely certain I'm right so is it all right if I just carry on?
Here is the next quote:
"You do not ___ me or ____ me much that concerns yourself, _____" said ______.
Orodoliel 12-02-2002 01:39 PM
No one seems to know so I'll post a clue:
It's in the FotR.
I hope that helps!
Guinevere 12-02-2002 03:10 PM
"You do not ask me or tell me much that concerns yourself, Frodo," said Gildor.
Is that it ? (I`ll have to ponder on a new quote first...)
Guinevere 12-02-2002 03:21 PM
OK, I`ve found something. I hope it`s neither too easy nor too difficult.
"----, you know all my ------, and long held in ------- the only --------that I seek."
Guinevere 12-03-2002 03:34 AM
I`ll fill in one more word to make it easier. (Clue: it`s from FotR)
"Lady, you know all my ------, and long held in ------ the only -------- that I seek"
hobbitlass 12-03-2002 10:06 AM
"Lady, you know all my heart desire, and long held in keeping the only treasure that I seek." -Aragorn to Galadriel.
Guinevere 12-03-2002 03:21 PM
Correct ! Your turn.
hobbitlass 12-04-2002 06:25 AM
"I'll ___ your___ and ___ to the ___,___of___ in ___ at the ___ now.
Orodoliel 12-17-2002 03:00 PM
Could we please have a clue?
It doesn't seem like anyone knows this one, and it has been quite a while. Maybe just a couple more words?
hobbitlass 12-18-2002 09:24 AM
'I'll give your ___ and ___ to the ___. One of them's in charge at the ___ now,'
TolkienGurl 12-23-2002 09:48 AM
Found it! Finally!
Quote:
'I'll give your name and number to the Nazgûl,' said the soldier lowering his voice to a hiss. 'One of them's in charge at the Tower now.'
The Return of the King, "The Land of Shadow"
