The Hobbit quotes!

I couldn't find a thread with The Hobbit quotes on this first page, so I assume there has been awhile since there was one. I've just read The Hobbit for the first time, and I loved it, so I thought I'd start a topic. Anyway, the first quote is rather easy I should think!

Quote:

What a lot of things you use Good morning for!

Gandalf to Bilbo! (I love that book!!!)

TolkienGurl 11-09-2002 11:36 AM

The 2 other Hobbit quote threads were first posted in 2001; one of them's closed and the other hasn't been replyed to since April. So I think you're OK!

You're of course right Gralin Your turn then!

April?! Haha, then it's probably OK yes

What do you mean by it?
Who said it, to whom were they talking to, and where were they?

Balrog of Khazadum 11-12-2002 12:33 PM

Gandalf to Bilbo

*if its wrong its probaly because i only read the hobbit twice*

gralin musicteeth 11-12-2002 12:53 PM

nope!

Laivine 11-13-2002 08:02 AM

Errrrrrr... Bilbo to Bifur?!?!

I know thats not right, hehe, but it was a hard quote. Hmmmm...

gralin musicteeth 11-17-2002 07:06 AM

nope! it was said before they got to Beorn's house.

hobbitlass 11-17-2002 07:36 AM

AAAHA! I finally found it.
It was said by the great goblin to Thorin in a huge cavern under the Misty Mountains.

gralin musicteeth 11-17-2002 04:05 PM

*bows to hobbitlass* Very good. Your turn

Gandalf, at the beginning of the Misty Mountains, chapter 'A Short Rest'

hobbitlass 11-19-2002 12:15 PM

Very good again, Arwen. Your turn.

Arwen1858 11-20-2002 01:40 PM

Quote:

Well, if you know of anywhere better, take us there!
Who said it, and to who?

gralin musicteeth 11-26-2002 06:55 PM

just a guess...Thorin?

-Imrahil- 11-26-2002 11:20 PM

Balin?

Must be one of the dwarves...

Legolas 11-27-2002 07:52 AM

Gandalf to Thorin who was whining about the giants.

Arwen1858 11-27-2002 04:57 PM

Your turn, Legolas. It was Gandalf to Thorin, but unfortunatly I lost my place in the book, so I don't remember what Thorin was whining about though.
Arwen

Legolas 11-28-2002 12:59 AM

Quote:

The torches will soon be relit.
Who said it? Whose torches? Why did it matter?

HerenIstarion 11-28-2002 08:01 AM

Gandalf said it to Thorin & Co and Bilbo, it mattered siince goblins were to relight them ant therefore to catch escaped captives

Legolas 11-28-2002 11:41 AM

Good, H-I!

HerenIstarion 11-29-2002 03:53 AM

Quote:

I can give you a day or two more
+ circumstances, plz

hobbitlass 11-30-2002 03:36 PM

Gandalf says this to Thorin and company after the eagles drop them off at the Carrock.

HerenIstarion 12-02-2002 04:50 AM

correct, hobbitlass, proceed :)

hobbitlass 12-02-2002 05:24 PM

"Tomorrow begins the last week of Autumn".

Guinevere 12-03-2002 03:05 PM

Thorin says this to the other dwarves as they sit "on the doorstep" of Smaugs lair and wait for Bilbo to decide something.

Now for a new quote....hmmmm...

"Get up lazybones," he said, "or there will be no breakfast left for you."

Durelin 12-03-2002 03:14 PM

Bofur said it to Bilbo (grumbling) when they woke up in Beorn's home.

Durelin 12-03-2002 03:45 PM

Well, here's another!

Quote:

Let us return! We can do no good here! And I don't like these dark birds, they look like spies of evil.

Beren87 12-03-2002 11:04 PM

Balin said it as they approached the mountain.

Beren87 12-10-2002 04:25 PM

Am i correct Durelin?

-Imrahil- 12-10-2002 04:33 PM

Beren I think you're right.

Beren87 12-16-2002 06:55 PM

Well, I know I'm right and its been a week so...

Quote:

I should swell up as big again as I am!

Legolas 12-17-2002 09:53 PM

Bilbo thinking to himself about some large bees.

Beren87 12-18-2002 05:56 AM

You are wonderfully correct Legalos.

hobbitlass 12-18-2002 09:13 AM

I don't remember that part. What chapter and/or page number was that in, please?

Legolas 12-18-2002 12:10 PM

A page number would do you no good unless we have the same publishing. It's in Chapter 7: Queer Lodgings. Beorn was a bee-keeper - don't remember that?

Anyway, the next quote...

Quote:

Besides they need no ropes in here.

hobbitlass 12-19-2002 04:55 AM

'Besides they need no ropes in here, said the Elvenking,' There is no escape from my magic doors for those who are once brought inside.'
BTW, thanks for the chapter on the last one. I DID forget about Beorn keeping bees. Man-Bear-honey-bees, DUH!!

hobbitlass 12-23-2002 02:29 PM

'Yes, yes!' _____ said. 'It isn't all that big,......'

Legolas 12-26-2002 09:33 PM

I really really hate it when someone other than the person giving the quote tells the answerer that they're correct unless it has been a week.

*cough* TolkienGurl *cough*
