Battles

In which battle of the War of the Jewels was Glaurung wounded.

Dior 03-25-2002 11:38 PM

?

Bruce MacCulloch 03-25-2002 11:56 PM

He was wounded by archers when he first issued from Angband, in a skirmish two hundred years after the Dagor Argeleb. Glaurung was also wounded by Azaghâl, Lord of Belegost, with a Dwarf-knife in the belly when he crushed him to death in the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.
So he was wounded in battle twice, although only one of those is numbered as one of the great battles of the War of the Jewels.

Dior 03-27-2002 08:02 PM

Correctamundo. Your turn.

Bruce MacCulloch 03-27-2002 10:24 PM

In the First Battle of the Fords of Isen, who fought with the Isengarders for Théodred's body? (Looking for two names here)

Mirkgirl 03-29-2002 12:17 PM

Bruce MacCulloch 04-10-2002 10:06 PM

The Battle of Azanulbizar (or Nanduhirion)

Dior 04-10-2002 10:10 PM

Why even confirm? You know you're right.
Ask away.

Bruce MacCulloch 04-11-2002 12:32 AM

What was the name of the battle in which Eärnil defeated the Wainriders?

Telchar 04-11-2002 01:10 AM

Turumbar, keep it alive! Please! I really like this subject, and there are so many more questions to be asked.

Legolas 06-17-2002 11:53 PM

The Battle of Tumhalad was the result of whose faulty judgement and resulted in what tragedy?

Lindolirian 06-18-2002 11:45 AM

The faulty judgement of Turgon and the destruction of Gondolin.

Legolas 06-18-2002 03:07 PM

Nope.

Joy 06-18-2002 04:15 PM

Was it Orodreth? The battle resulted in the sack of Nargothrond.

Legolas 06-18-2002 04:32 PM

Yes...Orodeth or Turin would work, since Turin persuaded Orodeth to openly attack, thus revealing the location of Nargothrond.

Joy 06-18-2002 11:17 PM

Who fought in the Battle of Azanulbizar? What was the result? Also, what caused it?

Legolas 06-19-2002 12:46 AM

Dwarves/orcs, the dwarves won, orc leader Azog slew Dwarven King Thror causing Thror's heir Thrain to wage war on the orcs.

Joy 06-19-2002 01:00 AM

Very good Legalos! Your turn now.

Legolas 06-19-2002 10:00 AM

What battle resulted in Turgon's inheritance of the Kingship of the Noldor?

Joy 06-19-2002 01:27 PM

Wasn't it the Dagor Bragollach?

Mat_Heathertoes 06-19-2002 03:24 PM

T'was the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.

Legolas 06-19-2002 04:14 PM

Right, Mat, after the loss of Fingon.

Mat_Heathertoes 06-20-2002 04:57 PM

Joy 06-20-2002 05:19 PM

Good job Joy!

Daniel Telcontar 06-23-2002 11:18 AM

Joy, please post again, since this seems to be a really good quiz, with lots of interesting information.

Joy 06-23-2002 01:53 PM

In the Battle of Sudden Flame, how was Finglofin killed? What was the two names for this?

Daniel Telcontar 06-24-2002 01:23 PM

Fingolfin wasn't killed in the Battle of the Sudden Flame. He died in a duel against Morgoth.

Joy 06-24-2002 01:58 PM

Daniel, I understand where your coming from. Fingolfin was killed by Morgoth during the Battle of the Sudden Flame.

I'll find another question later today.

Daniel Telcontar 06-24-2002 02:22 PM

We have misunderstood each other. After the Battle of the Sudden Flame, when all seemed lost, Fingolfin rode alone to Angband, challenging Morgoth to combat. So, you could say that he died because of the Noldorne's defeat at the battle of the Sudden Flame.

Lindolirian 06-24-2002 03:02 PM

Joy: The chapter in the Sil was called of the Ruin of Beleriand and the Fall of Fingolfin

Would that be it?
