40, 80, 120...

Last post on each page -- an issue worthy to be added to Top Ten Signs You're Addicted to the Barrow-Downs list! ;)

Well, next quote:

Indeed! And what may be your business?

A. My business is with Isengard tonight, with rock and stone
B. Whatever it is, it's my own, my good elves
C. I am bound here till midnight. A sorry business altogether
D. I have, as I told you, some pressing business away south
E. A very ticklish business, it was. Touch and go!
F. It mustn't ask us. Not its business, no, gollum!
G. This is merrymaking not business. Come and go as you like, as long as you don't make a noise
H. Never you mind. I was finding things out, as usual; and a nasty dangerous business it was
I. It's my business to ask questions after nightfall

Sleepy Ranger 07-10-2004 02:07 PM

Its B.

It is B and Bilbo said it the good elves

HerenIstarion 07-10-2004 02:12 PM

correct :)

you are fast! I certainly spent sevenfold (at least) time contriving it, as all entries are genuine quotes (so I thought to fool you) :)

Sleepy Ranger 07-10-2004 03:06 PM

Ah the joys of foiling a genius and his master plan

So then the next one-

I see a white stream

1- And a meadow
2- Burning in a dark land giving way to lost
3- flowing through a cave
4- Around a magnificent city
5- that comes down from the snows
6- thats flows through the valleys
7- with fish
8- there lies the answer
9- where we can swim
10- There we shall rest for a while

10 options must be a new record :)

Firefoot 07-10-2004 03:21 PM

5 - Legolas said it to Gandalf, Gimli, and Aragorn.

Sleepy Ranger 07-11-2004 03:05 AM

Correct!

Firefoot 07-11-2004 05:32 AM

Thank'ee.

It is a sign of the end and fall of many things, and...

1- I do not believe we will meet again.
2- the time of the Elves is passing.
3- a change in the tides of the world.
4- the great battle of our time is coming.

HerenIstarion 07-11-2004 11:17 AM

3

Aragorn just after the battle of Pelennor Fields, before the Gates of Minas Tirith

Firefoot 07-11-2004 11:27 AM

Yes.

HerenIstarion 07-11-2004 12:17 PM

thank you

Continue me this:

No you don't!

A. Not gold alone brought us hither
B. Put him down, and listen first to what he has to say
C. You are only quite a little fellow in a wide world after all
D. I don't, because I am not sending it
E. Let your legs take their share, we have carried you far enough
F. You don’t belong here; you’re no Baggins - you - you’re a Brandybuck!
G. Yes I do! And I mean what I say, what's more
H. But perhaps you don't mind bad smells
I. Because the bacon knows that it will get back in the pan sooner or later

***

Now, two of the answers are correct. I'll get along even if only one is guessed out, but I'd be pleased even more if both are.

Sleepy Ranger 07-11-2004 12:23 PM

Is it I,

In the Hobbit I think. Uh a dwarf to Bilbo. er, name the dwarf. Lucky guess time.
um, Is it Dori to Bilbo. wait was it even a dwarf who said it? I'm confused. :(

Firefoot 07-11-2004 12:34 PM

One of them is E - it was the Dwarves to Bombur, after he had woken up.

HerenIstarion 07-11-2004 12:37 PM

correct

You've got your dwarf. It was Dori to Bilbo as the latter compared their flight with eagles to feelings of bacon taken by the fork out of the pan and up on shelf

Another correct quess would have been E, dwarves again, to just waken up Bombur expressing the wish to go to sleep again (in Mirkwood)

edit:

Cross-posted wit Firefoot here. Correct you are. I suppose it was my mistake to have two correct answers, my apologies. I never thought about possiblity of two people giving different correct answers almost simultaneously :). But I suppose it is Sleepy's turn all the same, as there is some ten minutes gap in his favour :)

cheers

Evisse the Blue 07-25-2004 07:39 AM

I hate to do this to you, Sleepy, but since you're not around and it's been more than 10 days...I'll steal your turn at a new one:

Though at the moment I feel more:

A. at peace then I had in years
B. weary then usual
C. scared than I did then
D. certain of defeat than I do of victory
E. jealous of Arwen then I've had in a long while
F. like singing, if you get my meaning
G. inclined to give Grima the benefit of the doubt
H. like butter spread over too much bread
I. of a weary hobbit than a hero
J. hungry and less thirsty
K. like eating and drinking

New record - 11 options :D

Firefoot 07-25-2004 07:56 AM

K - Frodo said it to Pippin.

Evisse the Blue 07-25-2004 08:09 AM

Ah, Firefoot, always right, impossible to mislead... ;)
Go ahead!

Yes. :)

HerenIstarion 08-05-2004 05:41 AM

So:

G. This pyre is so warming

Evisse the Blue 08-05-2004 07:35 AM

welcome back, HI! glad you feel magnificent! :D
The answer's A. First I thought it was Frodo when he put on the mithril coat, but then I realized it was actually Bilbo on the same occasion!

HerenIstarion 08-05-2004 07:52 AM

Thank you :)

Sleepy Ranger 09-03-2004 09:04 AM

Its B ;)

Sleepy Ranger 09-11-2004 03:53 PM

Since HI is not replying and no one else is and it looks like the chances of me making last post are bad so... I have an idea. Ahem sorry. The answer is D. It is cold and clammy.

HerenIstarion 09-12-2004 07:44 AM

Now D is correct :)

HerenIstarion 09-12-2004 07:46 AM

Now, this is post #159. Have a go at the last one with the new quote :)

Sleepy Ranger 09-13-2004 07:33 AM
