I'll pass on my turn. Any takers?

Guinevere 06-12-2007 09:47 AM

I'll take it, since I have some insults ready... ;)

You cursed, peaching sneakthief!

Morthoron 06-12-2007 08:33 PM

The tracking Snaga to the Uruk he eventually killed in Mordor (while Sam and Frodo were hiding).

Guinevere 06-13-2007 02:19 PM

Yes, well done, Morthoron!

Morthoron 06-14-2007 01:12 AM

"...the invaders and usurpers of our home."

Morthoron 06-16-2007 01:26 PM

Hmmm...perhaps I was too vague. I'll add another phrase...

"...slayers of our kin, the invaders and usurpers of our home."

Dimturiel 06-17-2007 10:52 AM

That would be Eol to Maeglin about the Noldor.

Bah! I knew that added extra would be a dead give away. Good job, please continue.

fat fool
Good luck!

Morthoron 06-19-2007 08:09 PM

"You're a fat fool, William," said Bert, "as I've said afore this evening."

The trolls arguing in the "Roast Mutton" chapter of The Hobbit.

Dimturiel 06-19-2007 11:43 PM

Well done. Your turn again.

Morthoron 06-21-2007 05:09 PM

"stick-at-nought"

Guinevere 06-22-2007 10:25 AM

That's Bill Farney to the Hobbits, about Aragorn, when they are leaving Bree.

"I suppose you know who you've taken up with? That's Stick-at-naught Strider, that is!"

You are right, It was Bill Ferney. And it is spelled 'nought' in the book, by the way, which is a variation of 'naught' (at least in the worn out 1978 Ballantine paperback edition I have on my desk -- too lazy to go look through my hardbound editions atm).

Guinevere 06-25-2007 07:25 AM

Thank you!
(Sorry I misspelled Bill, and yes, in my Harper Collins copy it's spelled "naught".)

...numbskulls!

(btw, your signature fits this thread nicely, Morthoron! :D )

*The Dark Elf bows*

I referred to two hardbound copies I have (one published by Allen and Unwin, and the other by HarperCollins), and each have the spelling as 'naught'. Only the Ballantine paperback version has the spelling as 'nought'. Someone did not do a proper proofreading job!

Anyway, the quote you offer is found here:

Quote:

"'Rope!' cried Sam, talking wildly to himself in his excitement and
relief. 'Well, if I don't deserve to be hung on the end of one as a
warning to numbskulls! You're nowt but a ninnyhammer, Sam Gamgee: that's
what the Gaffer said to me often enough, it being a word of his. Rope!''

Guinevere 06-27-2007 05:40 AM

Exactly!

That was probably too easy for you, Morthoron !
(And we can't use "ninnyhammer" here anymore now ;) )

Morthoron 06-27-2007 10:42 AM

Sorry about adding 'ninnyhammer'. Such a waste of a perfectly good insult.

Quote:

...a phantom designed in the folly of their hearts...

Guinevere 01-18-2008 01:12 PM

Oops! I had quite forgotten about that thread :( but let's revive it now, shall we?

Sauron to Ar-Pharazôn, about Eru

Ninnyhammer would have been a simple one - who other than Sam would have said it?

Get up lazybones!
;)

Azaghâl 05-01-2008 04:53 PM

Bofur to Bilbo, at Beorn's, in the morning.

"Get up lazybones, or there will be no breakfast left for you."

Guinevere 05-02-2008 02:19 PM

Exactly! Your turn to insult, Azaghâl ;)

Azaghâl 05-02-2008 04:33 PM

"Come, Master Sluggard, ..."

Dimturiel 05-03-2008 07:56 AM

Legolas to Merry at Hornburg.

Azaghâl 05-03-2008 01:23 PM

That is a correct answer, you can go on.

Dimturiel 05-05-2008 09:58 AM

Thanks.
Quote:

tender little fools
Enjoy.

Azaghâl 05-06-2008 07:32 AM

Grishnakh to Merry and Pippin, at the edge of Fangorn.

"My dear tender little fools!" was the exact quote, but that would have given too much away. "Tender" was already enough to put me on the track. :)

Dimturiel 05-06-2008 11:04 AM

Yep, that's the one:D. Go ahead.

Azaghâl 05-07-2008 02:49 PM

Thank you.

Quote:

[...] a dirty treacherous fool. [...]

Eönwë 05-07-2008 03:11 PM

Grishnakh , I'm not sure where. I just saw it in the corner of this page. What luck!

The whole quote was:
"Saruman is a fool, and a dirty treacherous fool. But the eye is on him."

Azaghâl 05-07-2008 03:42 PM

You're right. As to the location, somewhere on the plains of Rohan should be enough since I am now far too sleepy to check the chapter or the chronology.

Your turn now. :)

Maedhros_the_Tall 06-01-2008 02:48 PM

Admittedly its not my turn, but this thread looks like allot of fun, and it has apparently been quiet for a long time! Therefore I shall have a go!! My quote is easy enough :)

"Woodwose"

Guinevere 06-10-2008 12:45 PM

That would be Saeros about Túrin, spoken to Mablung I believe.

Maedhros_the_Tall 06-10-2008 01:11 PM

Yup, thats right! I was thinking of Saeros saying it to Turin, after he threw the vessel at Saeros, but he also says it about Turin to Mablung right after!!

Your turn Guinevere

Guinevere 06-10-2008 02:26 PM

Thank you, Maedhros!

Quote:

You're a booby

Morthoron 06-10-2008 04:05 PM

"You're a booby," said William. "Booby yourself!" said Tom.

The trolls in The Hobbit before deciding whom to squash first.

Guinevere 06-13-2008 07:56 AM

Exactly! :)

I hope you still find more insults...
(I know several in Tolkien's Minor works, but those are not so well known.)
