Anyway, here's an insult... Quote:

Balin, referring to the crows.

Feanor to Maedhros after abandoning the better part of the host of the Noldor?
|
Yep!
Your turn. |
(This is probably a bit easy, but I haven't got my books handy to reference, they're all packed up! Lol.)
"Descendant of rats!" |
Thorin to Bilbo.
|
Yes indeed! Thought you might get that one rather swiftly! :p
Your turn Nerwen! |
I did– once I checked the thread. :p

The Isengarders to the other orcs while running on the plains of Rohan?
|
Sorry, Dimturiel, I missed your answer!
You are, of course, correct. Please take the thread.:) |
Thanks.

Saruman to Gandalf, about Merry and Pippin.
|
Yup. Go ahead.
|
Who said this one:
"A dirty treacherous fool" |
Grishnakh about Saruman
|
Correct, Evisse!
|
Who called who:
'dotard chamberlain of an upstart' |
I think that was Denethor telling Gandalf that he (Denethor) didn't want to be the dotard chamberlain of an upstart (meaning Aragorn) (right before he jumped on his pire)
Btw, welcome back, Evisse! nice to see you posting again in the Downs! |
Thanks for the welcome, Guinevere :) It's so awesome that this place hasn't changed a bit in all these years : D
And of course you are correct about the quote. |
who called who:
"ninnyhammer" (too easy I know, but I didn't have time to find anything more challenging that hasn't been used yet...) |
That was Sam calling himself when he forgot about the elven rope at Emyn Muil(and he said that the Gaffer called him that back in the Shire ;))
|
Exactly! :)
|
Thanks, Guinevere!
Craven lord of slaves |
Fingolfin challenging Morgoth to single combat, if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks!:)
A long-standing favourite of mine: You are one of the fools whom spring would not mourn if you perished in winter. |
That would be Mim talking to Ulrad, one of the outlaws, when they were speaking about the edible plants that Mim gave them.
|
Bingo! Back to you.
|
Thanks!
Little snufflers |
That would be the big fighting orc to the small tracker orc in Mordor, overheard by Frodo and Sam.
But I am not sure if I will be able to spot any more insults that haven't been used yet...:( (except from the minor works.) |
You are absolutely correct, Guinevere!:D
Maybe there is something that someone thought but not said, if that could be considered an insult... |
I hope this counts as an insult:

I think it's an insult. This quote is bugging me: it sounds familiar, but I can't picture anyone saying it. A clue, maybe?:Merisu:
Just a shot in the dark - Aragorn? It sounds like something he'd say to Gimli and Legolas... |
It's neither from LotR, nor from the Hobbit.
|
I would never have guessed it, even with the clue, if I didn't happen to come across it while rereading that part of COH yesterday. It's Mablung, talking to Morwen and Nienor, when they go to Nargothrond to look for Turin. Morwen wanted to search herself, but Mablung dissuaded her.
|
Exactly!
Well done, Galadriel55. :)
|
Thanks! But that was more luck than me... :)
I didn't want to use an insult that's too obscure, or use one that is aplied to every character (like fool). I hope this one will count! Faint-hearted PS: it's not really an insult, but it kind of is... |
Hm, could it be Túrin to his kinswoman Aerin (the Easterling's wife)?
