My favorite quote from the movie of Sam,

Quote:

I made a promise, Mr Frodo. A promise: "Don't you leave him Samwise Gamgee." And I don't mean to. I don't mean to.
It makes me cry everytime I read it. Sam is so sweet!

And, to show the best friendship in the world...New TTT pics of Frodo and Sam. (Thanx to Tigerlily)

Frodo Baggins 10-02-2002 11:13 AM

Oh, Eruwen, your going to make me cry!1 What sweet pictures! Where'd Tigerlily get them?
Ohh! wait till Sam sees this!

"Eavesdropping, sir? I don't folow you, begging your pardon, there ain;t no eaves at Bag-End, and that's a fact!"

Probably one of my favourite Sam quotes! I will post more later!

TolkienGurl 10-02-2002 12:14 PM

The relationship between Sam and Frodo, in my opinion, is the best portrayed friendship in all of literature and movie history. Sam is so caring and loving, willing to give everything up for Frodo, and Frodo is always there for Sam. In TTT, it almost made me cry when Sam though Frodo was dead and decided to carry out the Quest by himself. That is true devotion.

Three cheers for Sam!

A good quote:

Quote:

Sam: I have been droppin no eves sir, honest. I was just cutting the grass under the window there, if you follow me.
Gandalf: A little late for trimming the verge don’t you think?
Sam: I heard raised voices.
Gandalf: What did you hear?! Speak!!!!
Sam: N-n-n-nothing important. That is I heard a good deal about a ring and a dark lord and something about the end of the world. But please Mister Gandalf sir, don’t hurt me. Don’t turn me into anythin’ --unnatural.
Gandalf: No, perhaps not. I have thought of a better use for you…

An O.K. Pic:

Tigerlily Gamgee 10-02-2002 08:39 PM

Tigerlily got them from www.theonering.net ~ they are in the new trailer...

Fav. Sam moment:
Quote:

In western lands beneath the Sun
the flowers may rise in Spring,
the trees may bud, the waters run,
the merry finches sing.
Or there maybe 'tis cloudless night
and swaying beeches bare
the Elven-stars as jewels white
amid their branching hair.

Though here at journey's end I lie
in darkness buried deep,
beyond all towers strong and high,
beyond all mountains steep,
above the shadows rides the Sun
and Stars forever dwell:
I will not say the day is done,
nor bid the Stars farewell.
I also enjoy his Oliphaunt speech!

For music lovers...
Here is a track I found at Mp3.com called "The Choices of Master Samwise"
It is written by a girl named Linsay Anne Klemm (who has a number of LOTR inspired pieces on this website). http://play.mp3.com/cgi-bin/play/pla...of_Master_.m3u

Taure Leafsilver 10-03-2002 06:01 AM

The reason Im obsessed with sam and not frodo or legolas 1)he mae me cry a thousand times 2)he's so faithful and brave and loving towards frodo 3)see my pic....that is Sean Astin "Legi-who?"

Lostolin 10-03-2002 06:10 AM

Not to offend any Sam-lovers but wasn't Sam only effective throughout the novel because he was a wee bit unintelligent? The One Ring offers him a garden?! Sam helps Frodo every step of the way to Mordor because he is too dumb to realize the chances of making it are slim? Emblazoned in his head is the quest they need to do, and nothing will stop him from doing it (which is a good thing). Then, the scene in the movie where he drowns himself to get to Frodo! I don't want to offend anybody by this quote, it is just an honest question of Sam's intelligence.

Taure Leafsilver 10-03-2002 06:19 AM

sam's intellect isn't why he folowed frodo also the drowning scene is in the book and I thought it was sweet. Also sam is NOT as edjucated as frodo....or any of the others in the fellowship but he is not stupid. I believe he was ment to follow Frodo, and he knew it.

SAM IS NOT STUPID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*takes out a sword and threatens to chop to pieces anyone who says Sam is dumb again*

Eruwen 10-03-2002 03:20 PM

I am right with you, Rose. Sam was not dumb. He just didn't have as much intellect as Frodo. Of course, Frodo was alot older than Sam. So that could explain it.

But out of all the Hobbits, I would think that Sam would be one of the brightest ones. {Who got Mayor at the end? Huh? Could it be...Sam?!?}

Whoo. This calls for another great picture. Sam and the Cave Troll!!!

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE SAM! HES MY FAVORITE CHARCTER WHHEEEE! Without him, Frodo would have never had the strength and will to destroy the ring! (One entire side of my bedroom wall is covered in sam paraphanalia) I loooooove him! hes the best!

Arathiriel 10-03-2002 04:10 PM

Sam IS NOT DUMB or STUPID!!!

He went with Frodo not because he didn't realize what he was getting himself into beforehand but because I believe he FULL well knew that neither of them were likely to return from it!

I love Sam because he's a very gentle soul, so loyal to those he calls his friend. He may not have had a much education as Frodo or Merry or Pippin had but I believe he was one of the wisest Hobbits to ever live in the Shire!

*sighs*

I do SO love Samwise Gamgee!

Sam is so sweet! Without him, Frodo would've never survived Mordor. Sam isn't dumb, but he is VERY brave.

Frodo Baggins 10-03-2002 07:05 PM

Man! Where is that Samwise????

No he wasn;t stupid, but I am not offended by people's comments about that.

HOWEVER, the next person that suggests in my presence that Sam is gay will be relieved of their heads personally by me!

Tigerlily Gamgee 10-03-2002 07:55 PM

Sam was very smart, he just put his master before himself.
He had better common sense than Frodo... I mean, come on, look who trusted Gollum and who didn't. Sam knew all along.
Also, Sam learns what he can - look at all of the old poems and songs he has memorized...

I guess he still acts slightly juvenille (as when he almost drowned to stay with Frodo), that's what I would say, but he was indeed smart.

Taure Leafsilver 10-03-2002 08:05 PM

IF I HEAR ONE MORE "sam is gay" coment I'll GO BALISTIC!!!! people take his unflinceing loyaltiy the wrong way! (and photo manipulation is wrong *jerks spasticly*)

Frodo Baggins 10-04-2002 07:11 PM

GO ROSIE!!!!

"'Frodo, Mr.Frodo!' he called. 'Don't leave me here alone! It's your Sam calling. Don't go where I can't follow! Wake up, Mr. Frodo! O wake up. Frod, me dear, me dear. Wake up!"

That part always makes me cry!

Samwise 10-04-2002 08:43 PM

Sam: http://www.plauder-smilies.de/bawling.gif

Stacey: Samwise, calm DOWN....

Sam: I CAN'T! Everybody's bein' so sweet!

Stacey: Oi... *Whispers to Frodo* uh, sir, there's a bit of a rescue that needs tending to, don't know if you got my other messages, but a certain fave Hobbit of ours is having a ROUGH time of it...

As for my personal two cents: I've been in love with my dear Samwise since I was 12. When I first laid eyes on Mr. Astin at Bilbo's party and I knew he was moping over Rosie, I knew he'd do my Sam proud! http://www.plauder-smilies.de/biggthumpup.gif

Gosh...favorite Sam quote: Where do I begin!?!?
  • Mr. Frodo, sir!" cried Sam, quaking. "Don't let him hurt me, sir! Don't let him turn me into anything unnatural! My old dad would take on so. I meant no harm, on my honour, sir! "
  • "Well, sir, said Sam, dithering a little. "I heard a great deal that I didn't rightly understand, about an enemy, and rings, and Mr. Bilbo, sir, and dragons, and a fiery mountain, and - and Elves, sir. I listened because I couldn't help myself, if you know what I mean. Lor bless me, sir, but I do love tales of that sort. And I believe them, too, whatever Ted may say. Elves, sir! I would dearly love to see them. Couldn't you take me to see Elves, sir, when you go? "
  • "Me, sir!" cried Sam, springing up like a dog invited for a walk. "Me go and see Elves and all! Hooray! "he shouted, and then burst into tears.
  • "You'd better be hidden, Mr. Frodo," said Sam. "You get down in the waggon and cover up with blankets, and we'll send this rider to the rightabouts!" (I just adore the way Sam talks).
  • "But you can't leave poor old Bill behind in this forsaken place, Mr. Gandalf!" cried Sam, angry and distressed. "I won't have it, and that's flat. After he has come so far and all! "
"He'd follow Mr. Frodo into a dragon's den, if I led him." protested Sam.
Sam stood sullenly by the pony and returned no answer. Bill, seeming to understand well what was going on, nuzzled up to him, putting his nose to Sam's ear. Sam burst into tears, and fumbled with the straps, unloading all the pony's packs and throwing them on the ground.
At that moment from far off the wind bore to their ears the howling of wolves. Bill the pony started in fear, and Sam sprang to his side and whispered softly to him.
Sam, clinging to Frodo's arm, collapsed on a step in the black darkness. "Poor old Bill!" he said in a choking voice, "Poor old Bill! Wolves and snakes! But the snakes were too much for him. I had to choose, Mr. Frodo. I had to come with you."(that whole thing with Bill broke my heart...)
  • Sam plainly was beginning to have doubts again about Strider; but while they were talking he returned, appearing suddenly out of the shadows. They started, and Sam drew his sword and stood over Frodo. (ever the dear faithful Sam.... http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/supergrin.gif
"But you won't send him off alone, surely, Master?" cried Sam, unable to contain himself any longer, and jumping up from the corner where he had been quietly sitting on the floor.
"No, indeed!" said Elrond, turning towards him with a smile. "You at least shall go with him. It hardly possible to separate you from him. " (I like the way they did this part in the movie, too: "Mister Frodo's not goin' anywhere without me!")

  • "If you don't come back, sir, then I shan't, that's certain." said Sam. "'Don't you leave him!' they said to me. 'Leave him!' I said. 'I never mean to. I am going with him, if he climbs to the moon, and if any of those Black Riders try to stop him, they'll have Sam Gamgee to reckon with.' I said. "
  • "Elves! " exclaimed Sam. "Elves, sir!" He would have burst out of the trees and dashed off, if they had not pulled him back.
"What about the elves?" said Sam, too excited. "Can't we go and see them? "(he is toooo adorable...)
  • (Movie Stuff)
Aragorn: "Sam, do you know what athleas is?"
    Sam:"Athleas?"
    Aragorn: "Kingsfoil."
    Sam: "Kingsfoil, that's a weed! "
(Yeah, I know, that particular instance didn't happen that way in the book. Nevertheless, I thought it was kinda cute/funny that Aragorn asked Sam of all people, and of course, Sam's response....)
  • Movie Moment
*Frodo and Sam walking across a feild*
*Sam stops* "This is it. "
    *Frodo turns* "What's it? "
*Sam* "If I take another step, I'll be the farthest from home that I've ever been."
  • Or the part where they're in the cornfield and Sam realizes he's alone and gets all panicky like a little kid who's lost his mother in the department store:
    "Mister Frodo???"
  • LOTR (Movie) Moment (IV) (Moria)

    Orcs are everywhere

Samwise whacks one with a pot

gets..."the hang of this!" (heehee--love that part....)

Erg....I'm going to get in trouble for making an over-long post. You guys get the idea, right?

WOW this board is going well! I told a guy at school that likes LOTR about loveing sam and he gave me a funny look and said "your favorite chariter is SAM?!?!" hhehehe I thought it was funny
My idea on ending: Frodo goes off becomes imortal(I couldnt live if he died with no children)Sam follows later and they live on ((dont prosicute me on this but if they wernt together forever in the end it would be WRONG!! I can just imagine Sam locked in his room looking at his cape ext. and crying to him self "dont leave him, Never!! "

Tigerlily Gamgee 10-05-2002 12:38 AM

Thank you for all of those quotes, Samwise. They are wonderful!

Eruwen 10-05-2002 09:32 AM

Aww, Samwise. Those were really good. I actually thought you would never see this topic.

Another quote from the movie:
Quote:

Frodo:I don't suppose we'll ever see them again.
Sam:We may yet, Mr Frodo. We may.
Frodo:Sam...(He smiles)I'm glad you're with me.

Oh, I feel like crying now. I love this topic. It is so sweet!

Hanna_Gamgee 10-05-2002 10:04 AM

Sam is my second favorite character. I agree with everything that has alredy been said. I love the Oliphaunt poetry. The one in the TTT preview looked good.

Quote:

Grey as a mouse,
Big as a house,
Nose like a snake,
I make the earth shake,
As I tramp through the grass,
Trees crack as I pass.
With horns in my mouth
I walk in the south,
Flapping big ears.
Beyond count of ears
I stump round and round,
Never lie on the ground,
Not even to die
Oliphaunt am I,
Biggest of all,
Huge, old, and tall.
If ever you'd met me.
You wouldn't forget me.
If you never do,
You won't think I'm true;
But old Oliphaunt am I,
And I never lie.

Frodo Baggins 10-05-2002 01:35 PM

YAY SAM!!!

You finally got here!!!

Taure Leafsilver 10-07-2002 07:17 PM

Yay! Sam! Could there be a more loyal charater

vanwalossien 10-08-2002 02:51 AM

Sam is just adorable! I loved those TTT pics! I start crying nearly every time I hear "In Dreams" from the soundtrack, 'cause it reminds me so much about Sam. The friendship between Sam and Frodo is one of the most moving things I've ever read! Mr. Astin is a great Sam, isn't he? I think he might be one of the actors who're most perfect for his part.
