Not quite a quiz, just trie me.

This may sound like something that would fit in the quiz section but it issn't.

I would like to test my knowledge on Tolkien so I call upon you Downers to ask me Tolkien related questions.

I only saw the second movie once and read lotr 2 times. I did not read the Silmarillion and the Hobbit so don't bother asking that.

I only have to rush upstairs (jumping over various objects on the way) and get the book, very tattered book infact, I think I've been grabbing it too much. It has no cover and the front page is ripped in half (we only bought it last year)

Helkahothion 01-15-2003 01:19 PM

Dear Dragoneyes,

You should treat your book as if it is your bible. Altough I am an Atheist I do. Tolkien is my faith and the books my bible.

Dear Helkahothion,

I wounldn't exactly say I treated the book like a bible, even though I do treasure it......But I don't exactly treat it like a bible, So how do you look after the book then? (that sounded stupid I know!)

eleanor_niphredil 01-15-2003 01:37 PM

There is something in copies of LOTR that just wants to fall apart. I treat my books with the uttermost care, and still I am on my third copy in two years! I think that the more your book is worn and torn, the greater your love for Tolkien.

Helkahothion 01-15-2003 01:38 PM

Dear Elalia,

Well I feed them regulary and sing to them. They really like that. I take them with me to the park and put them in the son so they get a little tan.

Nah just kidding. But all the madness on a stick: I have my own closet section for my books. It's a waste of room, but that way they can't get messed up.

Dunadan means Westman....emm...
ai means ah...
vedui might mean last, but not sure, and I think na means at...
So that makes it:
Ah, at last Westman, well met.

I think....tell me if I'm horribly wrong.

Yep, that's it. Just checked.

Am learning Sindarin on the Council of Elrond website- they have really good lessons, and translations from the books. I already knew most of the words cause I'd read that before but couldn't find it again, so I just had to remember them.
I know it's right cause I managed to find the place where I read it. But if you're interested in learning elvish I'd recommend the site.

Helkahothion 01-15-2003 02:26 PM

Just to get back on topic, what was the song Frodo sang to get Tom Bombadil to come to their rescue while on the barrow-downs?

[ January 15, 2003: Message edited by: dragoneyes ]

eleanor_niphredil 01-17-2003 12:14 PM

"ho! Tom Bombadil, Tom bombadillo!
By water, wood and hill, by the reed and the willow.
By fire, sun and moon, harken now and hear us.
Come Tom bombadil, for our need is near us!"

am I right?

As for another question, I just read the stupidist question of all time!

How would you trap shelob?
A. In a giant bathtub
B. On a giant roll of sticky tape
C. With a big chunk of cheese

Second was:

If a troll was in your bedroom, how would you get rid of it?

A. Throw water on it
B. give it a nice hot cup of tea and ask it to leave
C. Open the curtains.

These were NOT meant to be funny questions.

Helkahothion 01-19-2003 04:59 AM

Hey hey people,

The Tom Bombadil Story left me clueless. 0/2 for the downers.

For the two other questions.

How would you trap shelob?
b. (altough their all weird)

If a troll was in your bedroom, how would you get rid of it?
c.

I hope to hear the real answers soon.

Yes, the Tom Bombadil one's correct and I agree with Anuion about the other two (though trapping Shelob would be hard even with a large roll of sticky tape)

eleanor_niphredil 01-19-2003 06:19 AM

Actualy, you would trap Shelob in a giant bathtub, cause spiders get trapped in the bath. I put sticky tape first to, and got it wrong.

Galenfea of Mirkwood. 01-21-2003 03:03 PM

Can I ask another? What is the name of Aragorn's father?

Lossentilien 01-21-2003 03:54 PM

Arathorn?
Ok...emm...very easy one..(am just gonna copy u're idea)

Name of Gimli's father?

dragoneyes 01-21-2003 04:00 PM

Gloin perhaps?

ElentariGreenleaf 01-21-2003 04:07 PM

Man that's easy. I could remember that just by going through the script in my head.......

Galenfea of Mirkwood. 01-21-2003 04:43 PM

OK, slightly harder, how old was Aragorn when Arathorn died?

Lossentilien 01-22-2003 11:47 AM

He was two years old.
OK, so I guess that was a pathetic attempt. How about something harder?
This would be hard for me, maybe not you guys though.
How old was Aragorn when he was given the Ring of Barahir and the broken shards of Narsil?
