Gil-Galad 09-10-2003 08:53 PM

Evisse the Blue 09-11-2003 03:31 PM

Oops, sorry, I missed that. Ok - Snowmane because in the middle of the battle he fell and crushed Theoden under him.

Gil-Galad 09-11-2003 03:50 PM

right you are it is your turn now...

Evisse the Blue 09-12-2003 01:36 PM

How is the language of the Rohirrim described?

Beren87 09-12-2003 07:40 PM

This isn't exact, but "Rolling like the hills of the land"?

Evisse the Blue 09-13-2003 11:31 AM

"Like the land - rich and rolling in part and else hard and stern as the mountains"
But okay - you can go.

Beren87 09-13-2003 01:08 PM

Ah, I wouldn't have given to me. =P

At its height, what were Gondor's chief cities?

Evisse the Blue 09-13-2003 05:09 PM

Ah, Beren, I'm not so severe as you are

Minas Arnor and Minas Ithil?

Beren87 09-13-2003 10:20 PM

That's two of them, you've got a few more to go.

Gwaihir the Windlord 09-14-2003 02:33 AM

Osgiliath, Minas Anor/Tirith, Minas Ithil, Dol Amroth, the ports of Pelargir and Umbar, Tharbad.

Beren87 09-14-2003 09:50 AM

All of them and even in the correct order. Your go, Master Windlord.

Gil-Galad 09-16-2003 07:15 PM

*bump*

Gil-Galad 09-19-2003 04:42 PM

GWAIHIR YOU THERE!!! if you don't post i'll pm you

Gil-Galad 10-04-2003 08:29 AM

yay my turn, thsi will be kinda crpytic

Server of the swift
Server of the White
Killer of the darkness raid
left i did, reclaimed i also did

Gil-Galad 10-04-2003 08:06 PM

tell me if you need hint...

Holbytlass 10-04-2003 08:46 PM

My stab at it, Eomer.
He served Theoden, horse-master (horses being swift)
Then served Gandalf (the white) after being exiled, thereby helping to stop the night raid of the Uruk-hai at Helm's Deep.
The last line I guess to be about him still serving Rohan even after being exiled and of course still serving when he is unexiled (?).
Okay, you can laugh now!

Gil-Galad 10-05-2003 09:32 AM

... in the book Eomer wasn't exiled, good try but no

Hint: server of the high sun

Gil-Galad 10-05-2003 07:40 PM

(i need help with grammer)

Gil-Galad 10-05-2003 07:43 PM

Server of the swift
Server of the White
Server of the high sun
Killer of the darkness raid
slayer of my dark kin
left i did, reclaimed i also did

(there added another one)

Gwaihir the Windlord 10-06-2003 01:41 AM

GWAIHIR YOU THERE!!! if you don't post i'll pm you
I appreciate that you were considering doing that, Gil-Galad, even if you didn't actually bother. But anyway, in future. If you can't grab my attention on the thread - PMing me will always bring me here within a day, so next time I lose track please let me know!

(I tend to forget about them after I've answered, you see. Display of terrible absent-mindedness but there you go.)

As for your question - could it be Gandalf?
Server of the swift: Not too sure about this one, but Shadowfax or Gwaihir perhaps?
Server of the White: Saruman
Server of the High Sun: 'I am a servant of the Secret Fire, wielder of the flame of Anor'
Killer of the darkness raid: Light-bringing, piercing shadows of Nazgul
Slayer of my dark kin: The slaying of the Balrog
Left I did, reclaimed I also did: Left the Undying Lands, found them again.

Gil-Galad 10-06-2003 07:30 AM

a very good anwser but sadly no.. keep trying! and sorry about not PMing you, i forget thsi thread... my bad

Server of the swift
Server of the White
Server of the high sun
Killer of the darkness raid
slayer of my dark kin
left i did after i've done my duty, reclaimed i also did

Arestevana 10-06-2003 01:56 PM

Is it Aragorn?
Specifically when he served in Minas Tirith under a different name?
Server of the swift- I don't know this one
Server of the White- Gandalf? Or the White Tower?
Server of the high sun- Minas Anor, tower of the sun, I believe.
Killer of the darkness raid-
slayer of my dark kin
left i did after i've done my duty, reclaimed i also did- He left the city after serving there, then returned as king

I'm probably wrong, but that's my guess...

Gil-Galad 10-06-2003 04:54 PM

you have to anwser all reasons

Beren87 10-06-2003 09:35 PM

No you don't, you can just answer what you think you can, then comment on what they have so far.

miellien 10-06-2003 11:01 PM

Still Aragorn-
Server of the swift- he served with the Rohirrim before going to Gondor.
The "Dark Kin"- the men at Umbar that he drove away so he could take the ships.

Gil-Galad 10-07-2003 07:45 AM

... IT IS ARAGORN, I NEED THE NAME HE USED BEFORE HE MET FRODO!!!!!!! and reasons

The Saucepan Man 10-07-2003 11:46 AM

Gil-Galad, I think that you are expecting rather too much in the way of answers to your questions. Yes, you are of course entitled to insist on the correct name being given (which I agree has not yet been given on the current question). And you are also entitled to expect some explanation of your clue when it is in riddle or cryptic form.

But, I think that once you get the right answer and some (even if not a complete) explanation of how it was arrived at, then it's time to move on to the next question. You do not need every part of the clue explained (you can always explain any parts of the clue that remain a mystery yourself when you confirm the answer). Otherwise the thread tends to drag and people might get put off.

Also, please try to avoid making 2 or 3 posts in a row. It's often better simply edit your original post.

Thanks.

Gil-Galad 10-07-2003 06:33 PM

all i want is the right anwser and good explanations, what really bugs me is people guessign with out an educated guess

miellien 10-07-2003 10:35 PM

Don't get your knickers in a twist. Estel, Thorongil, Dunadan, Strider, Aragorn, and Elessar. "A rose by any other name..." to quote another literary great...

Gil-Galad 10-08-2003 04:35 PM

... THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME EVEN MORE MAD! LIEK I SAID I DON'T LIKE PPL GUESSING LIEK YOU JUST DID!! ARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!

The Saucepan Man 10-08-2003 07:04 PM

Cut that out, you two. The Forum Policies make it clear that there is to be no flaming, trolling or insulting. So please calm down or you will risk having your posting privileges revoked.

Now, Gil-Galad, it seems to me that miellien has given the correct answer and sufficient explanation of your clue. Would you not agree that he or she may now continue?

miellien 10-08-2003 10:06 PM

That's ok. SHE (that would be me) was playing for fun, but this is obviously a much more serious endeavor for some people. Please continue without me.

Gil-Galad 10-10-2003 05:57 PM

i will anwser it then any one can go
Thorongil

Server of the swift- Served Thengel, lord of Rohan
Server of the White- served the white council
Server of the high sun- served Steward of Minas Tirith
Killer of the darkness raid- stopped the dark numneroens raids on Gondor
slayer of my dark kin- killed Umbar captain
left i did after i've done my duty,- left after he finished with umbar
reclaimed i also did- reclaime the throne

Gwaihir the Windlord 10-11-2003 01:45 AM

I'll take the go that I should have had earlier, then .

Why couldn't Gondor come to aid of Helm Hammerhand?

Gil-Galad 10-11-2003 10:59 AM

They were being seiged by the Corsiars of Umbar and the Balcoth? (maybe just teh corsairs)

Finwe 10-11-2003 06:15 PM

They were struggling with the Fell Winter themselves, and many things perished in Gondor, including the White Tree.

Gwaihir the Windlord 10-12-2003 12:30 AM

Yes, it was just the Corsairs. Your turn, Gil-galad.
