A New Game II

Here is the score as it stood at the time of the closing of the old thread:

Saucepans- 3
gilraen- 2
Alak- 2
Beren- 1
Beruthiel- 1

Here's the last question of the series:

10) What was the name of the third child of Finduilas(II)?

Sophia

Beren87 06-13-2003 04:32 PM

Finduilas bore only two children to Denothor II, Boromir and Faramir.

Orofaniel 06-13-2003 04:35 PM

Yeah, I think beren is right...In my book I could only find that Findulias had two children, Boromir and Faramir.

Sophia the Thunder Mistress 06-13-2003 07:11 PM

Aah! I feel incredibly stupid now . Thanks for catching that Beren. I meant Steward Ecthelion II, and of course his youngest child (Denethor) married Finduilas. Must remember to think before I post...

Beren gets this point for catching my glaring mistake.

Final Score:
Saucepans- 3
gilraen- 2
Beren-2
Alak- 2
Beruthiel- 1

Please carry on, O Cacaphonous Cadaver...

1) What happened in the Shire on Friday the first of Summerfilth?

elven maiden Earwen 06-17-2003 12:53 PM

something that would never happen?

Orofaniel 06-17-2003 01:33 PM

Quote:

1) What happened in the Shire on Friday the first of Summerfilth?
I think when the Shire folk talked about Friday the first of Summerfilith they reffered to a day that did not exist, or to a day on which unlikely events such as flying pigs or(in the Shire) the walking of trees might occur. In the full expression; On Friday the first of Summerfilth. This is because of what they called the Shire-reform. They created this because they found the shifting of the weekday names in relation to dates from year to year inconvenient and untidy. They later arragned that the odd day which put the successin out, should'n have a weekday name. So after Mid-year's day the day was only known by it's name and belonged no week.

Could it be it?

Nice detail, Orofaniel, but elven maiden Earwen's more succinct answer fits the bill too, I'm afraid.

elven maiden Earwen - 1

2) What was the purpose of beating the bounds?

alaklondewen 06-17-2003 09:49 PM

Hm...I believe this was the job of the Bounders of the Shire. They beat the bounds to keep strange folk and creatures (wolves, maybe) from crossing the borders of the Shire?

The Saucepan Man 06-19-2003 08:09 PM

Indeed they did, alak. Their main purpose was to keep out "outsiders".

elven maiden Earwen - 1
alaklondewen - 1

3) In whose death were Bill Ferny and Harry Goatleaf involved?

alaklondewen 06-19-2003 09:05 PM

"Three and two...There was poor Mat Heathertoes, and Rowlie Appledore, and little Tom Pickthorn from over the Hill; and Willie Banks from up-away, and one of the Underhills from Staddle; all good fellows, and they're missed."

Gwaihir the Windlord 07-02-2003 04:12 AM

Mind if I join in?

1) Which two people betrayed Gondolin?

The Saucepan Man 07-02-2003 04:29 AM

Sorry Gwaihir, you need to have given the most correct answers in the previous round to earn the honour of question master/mistress for the next round.

Alaklondewen answered 5 out of 10 correctly in the last round, so it is now her turn to ask the questions.

alaklondewen 07-02-2003 07:53 AM

Thank you, Saucepan...*looks around at all the other quiz room players* Please, please, you may sit down...enough applause.

1) What is the House of Ransom, who lived there, where was it located?

it was the refuge of Turin, in West Beleriand.
It was the home of Mîm.

alaklondewen 07-02-2003 05:30 PM

You're right, Mariska, that it was the refuge of Turin, but I would like you to be a little more specific on the location and what it was called. Think about what Mîm called it.

elven maiden Earwen 07-02-2003 06:03 PM

Am I able to answer the question?

Amon Rudh meaning the Bald Hill. It was just south of the Forest of Brethil.

Sorry for putting my foot in it . Carry on.
