Nope, still not what I'm looking for. The first line is a near direct (slightly adapted) quote from the source, and the second line hints at the word itself.

*bump* Saucepan? I thought you'd get this in fifteen seconds... Where all you interpreters of vaguely non-straightforward clues?
Sorry. Not been on much in the last few days.
It's the Oath-breakers. When doom approaches the halls of silent kings: This presumably refers to Aragorn fulfilling the prophecy of Malbeth the Seer and entering the Paths of the Dead to hold the Dead Kings to their oath. The great waves follow the promised words of old: Breakers (great waves) following oath (promised words of old). |
*bows* Thank you! I was beginning to think I'd actually written a difficult question .

You are correct to doubt your answer, Gil-Galad.

Saruman?
Bill Ferny, either him or his Squint eyed companion.
Indeed, it was the squint-eyed southerner that I had in mind. Very well done, Sophia.
Thanks Saucepans . It came to me in a flash... LOL. I'll be back with you as soon as I have time to think of a decent question.

In Shadow and old Memory I stalk
The unwary are my prey. Beside the sleepless waters, under the shadows of old mountains, Those I find are unremembered and their children love the darkness. |
Shelob feasting on orcs?
nope
Melkor preying on the Avari?
After long and thoughtful consideration, I've decided to accept this. All theories of orc origin aside, there was certainly an unknown hunter that stalked the Quendi at Cuivienen. I don't know that it was necessarily Melkor, but you got the idea, Lasgalen. The floor is yours.
Sophia |
Who lived where the shadows 'were thickest and deepest'? (sorry I can't make a poem out of my question.)
Complete guess, as I haven't got my books to hand, but is it Ungoliant?
sauceman is probaly right but i'll try to guess Shelob
Ungoliant is correct.
Thank you Lasgalen.

Take a counsellor
Of most treacherous mind, - Wormtongue And rob him of language - Minus Tongue My kindred to find. -Worm Great treasures I gained From those who like such things, And on my death they passed To the fathers of the Eorlings - Killed by Fram son of Frumgar Scatha the Worm of course! Sophia |
A perfect answer, Sophia.
This is terribly easy, but I'm attempting to make about four riddles at the moment, so it's the best I can do.
We are roughened, followed by a breath, moved by the last of the music, where forever it echoes. |
i ahev a starneg feelign it has soemthign to do with when Frodo and the Hobbits were in the Barrow-Wights tomb, and Tom came singign to save htem
Your strong feeling leads you very much astray, Gil-Galad .
Sophia |
Melkor creating the orcs?
No. When working out a riddle, or clue of this type, it helps you to show how you came to that answer, cause then I could say: "No, your answer's wrong, but here's what you're right about." It helps me to know too, if people are getting close, so I can give better hints if nobody guesses.
could it be abotu the Balrogs when Melkor cried and they came, you can always here his cry in the mountains
Still no, Gil-galad, but thanks for showing me how you got the answer you did

Black Númenóreans
They attacked Gondor followed by a great plague The last part of the great music of the Ainur did go about men ruling ME |
Nope, but getting slightly warmer.
Corsairs of Umbar? I'm trying to name all of the "bad guys" related to the Black Numenoreans.
Yes, that is it Finwe, but so disappointing that you didn't use my clues, I was so proud of them.
We are roughened = Coarse (which sounds like Cors) followed by a breath = air (Corsair) Moved by the last of the music (of the Ainur) Where forever it echoes = in water, which moves ships. Carry on, Finwe. Sophia |
Finwe? *bump*
Sorry! I had forgotten entirely about this thread!
We are the festival, where rabbits romp, We are the little ones, Rather than the large. We were deceived, By the one who deceives, We named the others, After their animals' food. |
The Easterlings in Dor-Lomin?
Yes.
Lasgalen, when answering riddles such as this, you should give an explanation of how you arrived at the answer. This prevents "lucky guesses" and it is also interesting for those of us who may have puzzled over the riddle to see how it works. (It also gives the "riddler" a sense of satisfaction. )
So, please elaborate ... |
