Verbal Reasoning!
 

This is something that is on most British schools' entrance exams, and I thought it would be interesting to give it a nice Tolkien Twist.
The idea is very simple - you relate two words to one another, and then give the beginning of a second pair, so that the intended audience may complete it.

A really easy one would be:
Dog is to Puppy as
Cat is to ____________________

Now we all know the answer would be "Kitten" (don't we?), but the Tolkien version could perhaps be more difficult, as most characters and things and places have more than one relationship...if you know what I mean. (The above would be more difficult if Dog was also an anagram of puppy, the place where the puppy was born, etc.)

If I didn't just waffle on and write complete nonsense, and you actually understood what I mean, then have a go at this niiice and easy one:

Arwen is to Elrond as
Éowyn is to ___________
------------------------------------
You must explain why you filled in the blank in the way you did. We can't go arund guessing now, can we?
Also, if there are any more VR-style questions, you can post those up as well, provided you explain how they work.

Eomund because he is Eowyn's father. Elrond is Arwen's father.

I will guess Eomund: Arwen is Elrond's daughter, Eowyn is the daughter of Eomund.

My answer is Hasufel.

Shadowfax was a horse given to Gandalf, and Hasufel was a horse given to Aragorn.

My guess is snowmane, Theoden's horse.

Snowmane was Theoden's bane after all.

Nilpaurion has it. It is the leader of the Haradrim cavalry.

Give the next two names in this sequence:

Thorin, Aragorn, Ori, Boromir, Oin, Frodo, Nori, Gandalf, Kili, …

Here's my attempt:
Thorin, Aragorn, Ori, Boromir, Oin, Frodo, Nori, Gandalf, Kili, Gimli (alphabetically, next from the Fellowship - Thorin & co are in reverse alphabetical-)

So you will also need a Gloin.

Really confused myself by examining the wrong Túrin and Hador ... but I think this should be Túrin II, Turgon's father?

I think it could be either Boromir or Faramir.

NightKnight, there were two Hadors and three Turins, so could you elaborate a bit? It could be either Boromir or Faramir, or Turin II. Both answers have been given before. Actually, it could also be Barahir's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandchild, but somehow I don't think that's the answer you're looking for. ;)

I would say Boromir or Faramir because Hador is Turin's great-grandfather and Turgon the Steward is Boromir's/Faramir's great grandfather.

Probably Mirkwood. Sirion runs through Doriath and The Forest River runs through Mirkwood.
