Gothmog 11-09-2005 09:04 AM

Hearing "faithful" I'm thinking of Numenor an those faithful to the old traditions, not forsaking the friendship of the elves. "Shunned by all", hmmm... I'm going to guess for Tar-Miriel. She was supposed to be queen but was forced into marriage and from the throne. Maybe that is "shunned by all". It is also said that she tried to reach the top of Meneltarma when the island sank, which would explain why she's high over vale. In the ground meaning dead in this interpretation.

I don't think that's correct actually. But am I on to something? Is any part correct?

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-09-2005 11:54 AM

No your all wrong Morsul !

Your answer is all wrong too Gothmog, but some of your resoning is right, try rethinking it. . .

(remember I am no good at this so it might be cryptic)

Gil-Galad 11-09-2005 07:14 PM

Tar-Pantir? he was of the faithful and tried to bring back the Elvish ways

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-10-2005 04:06 AM

Nope.

Try to think a little unorthodoxly. . .

(Shall I give a hint when I return in 8 hours?)

Gothmog 11-10-2005 07:21 AM

The last line sounds kind of like the barrowmounds. A barrow-wight? The barrow-wight? But I don't know about the first line. The kings in the barrows were descendents of the faithful of Numenor? And those who lived in Numenor and were faithful was shunned by all? All that anti-elvish propaganda going on...

No I really have no idea... Maybe a hint, if no-one else has any ideas

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-10-2005 06:25 PM

Hint: Not a person

Maybe it is to easy now, but thats just the way it has to be.

Morsul the Dark 11-15-2005 09:43 AM

lotlorien
among the faithful elves shunned by men
placed high because of its magic and great elven roots and its roots tree roots are ion the ground?

Mettare 11-15-2005 03:07 PM

How about the Stone of Erech?

It was on the top of the Hill of Erech, yet in the ground; people were quite afraid of it, but it was brought there by Isildur from Numenor...

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-16-2005 04:09 AM

Sorry Morsul your wrong again, but a real good guess though. . .

Congrat's Mettare that was the answer I was looking for !

I hereby yield the thread to you

Mettare 11-16-2005 12:31 PM

:)

Another way to be taken
For the first was taken away
From the light into shadows and dimness
A treacherous way, a dangerous way
Calling its victims

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-16-2005 01:12 PM

Just to get us startet: The Straight Road ?

I dont think it is correct, but was the first thing that came to my mind.

Gothmog 11-16-2005 02:36 PM

An other wild guess: The path through Moria?

Gil-Galad 11-16-2005 02:48 PM

crossroads maybe?

Mettare 11-17-2005 11:40 AM

Nope.

Gothmog's guess was good, though.. just not the one I had in mind.. I was afraid it might be a little too vague..

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-17-2005 12:11 PM

The Gap of Rohan ?

Valesse 11-17-2005 12:15 PM

I'm going to say its the Pathes of the Dead.

Gothmog 11-17-2005 01:07 PM

I'm following my first thought and guess at Cirith Ungol. My first guess was considered good, and this is quite similar so...?

Mettare 11-18-2005 01:09 PM

No.

It was just a good guess but now I see there are other good guesses as well...

Slightly modified riddle:

Another way to be taken
For the first was taken away
From the light into shadows and dimness
A treacherous way, a dangerous way
Calling its many victims

Might not be a big clue (if any) but I don't want to make it too obvious...

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-18-2005 07:21 PM

The treacherous wastes of the Helcaraxë ?

Mettare 11-19-2005 11:00 AM

Yep, that's it! :D

Your turn! :)

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-19-2005 11:25 AM

Thanks. . .

Brothers three, greatest am I
I see all with my ancient eye

Not as good as yours Mettare, but I hope it will do.

Gil-Galad 11-19-2005 12:51 PM

Minas Tirith perhaps?

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-19-2005 01:06 PM

perhaps. . . . but it is wrong, but good guess and close it was.

Morsul the Dark 11-19-2005 01:08 PM

then the next logical step if that was close is Baradur?

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-19-2005 01:17 PM

yes that would be the next logical thing to do, but alas your wrong!

If you keep doing the logical thing you will end up with the right answer, allthough it may take some time.

dont read to much into the messege above.

Gil-Galad 11-19-2005 01:33 PM

hmm...Osgiliath?

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-19-2005 01:44 PM

Nope.

If you want I can make changes in the riddel to make it easier. . .

Gil-Galad 11-19-2005 01:45 PM

Gondolin perhaps?

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-19-2005 01:52 PM

No not at all.

Morsul the Dark 11-22-2005 01:21 PM

Minas Tirith was close...so perhaps it needs to be more specific the White Tower?

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-22-2005 01:31 PM

No it is somthing different.

Maybe if I change the riddle a bit.

Brothers three, tallest am I
I see all with my ancient eye

Morsul the Dark 11-22-2005 01:32 PM

Orthanc is pretty tall

Orthanc

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-22-2005 02:13 PM

indeed it was, but it is not the answer.

Shall I give a hint ?

Morsul the Dark 11-22-2005 02:15 PM

yes please

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-22-2005 02:35 PM

Hint: Looks only across the sea

Morsul the Dark 11-22-2005 02:37 PM

Grey Haven?

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-22-2005 02:43 PM

You cant come any closer now. You are so close, allso geographical. ;)

Morsul the Dark 11-22-2005 02:50 PM

the lighthouse? i forget what its called

Rune Son of Bjarne 11-22-2005 03:02 PM

I cant remember the lighthous...

Morsul remember the riddle (and look to a bit to the east)

Gothmog 11-22-2005 03:02 PM

Elostirion? The eye being the Palantiri and Elostirion being the tallest of the three towers on Emyn Beraid?
