Fortunately/Unfortunately

There's an old time game called fortunately/unfortunately that I remember playing back in the day. I decided to let's do one LOTR style. Ok, here's how it goes, someone starts off with a statement, then another makes a fortunate, or unfortunate remark, off that statement. These can be as funny or as serious as one wants....

For Example:

unfortunately, Aragorn fell off a cliff.

Fortunately, he landed in the water and not on the sharp rocks.

unfortunately, he can't swim

and it just goes on...They can get as whacky or serious as one wants.

So I'll start off....

Fortunately, Gimli finally found something to eat

malkatoj 03-31-2005 06:50 PM

Unfortunately, it was the fish that Gollum was speficically waiting for it to fatten up so he could eat it, and Gollum tried to strangle Gimli.

Ainaserkewen 03-31-2005 07:28 PM

Fortunately, Gimli is stronger then the fish-weakened Gollum.

AbercrombieOfRohan 03-31-2005 07:50 PM

Unfortunately, Gimli was unaware that Gollum grew up next to a nuclear power plant and when attacked actually swelled to the size of the Good-year blimp...

Elennar Starfire 03-31-2005 09:08 PM

Fortunately, blimps are easy to deflate if one knows the proper place to stick them with one of Legolas' arrows.

The Only Real Estel 03-31-2005 09:10 PM

Unfortunately, Gimli had a horrible fight with Legolas last night, and Legolas and his arrows were pouting in a corner.

THE Ka 03-31-2005 09:13 PM

Fortunately, Legolas' arrowheads were made out of stainless steal and did not rust on his flawless mane of elvish egoness...

HerenIstarion 04-01-2005 02:54 AM

Unfortunately, that very morning Legolas was polishing his bow with the "Mirkwood Bow Maintenance Kit" chestnut polish fluid #4, forgot to attach a string, and as a consequence, were unable to shoot at Gimli

Estelyn Telcontar 04-01-2005 04:54 AM

...which was fortunate, since he was supposed to shoot Gollum, not his best friend!

HerenIstarion 04-01-2005 06:30 AM

comments: My mistake, which I'm unable to correct. My previous should have been like this:

Gimli was a typo :) It was Gollum who should have been deflated, right?

Should fortunately/unfortunately run alternately? I suppose yes?

Thing itself (or an essay to clear up the mess I've done myself :)):

Unfortunately, Legolas, who have never used his arrows other than shooting them through his bow, stood stupefied, gaping at Gimli's horrible plight, and it never ocurred to him it was enough to pierce Gollum through the right place with an arrowhead.

Yes
and

yes.

But don't worry, it's a straightened out. :)

Fortunately, Faramir was walking by and aimed for the proper place to deflate Gollum.

Mithalwen 04-01-2005 10:07 AM

Unfortunately he forgot did not have anything to piece him with - having just come from net practice with the Ithilien wanderers, he was carrying a cricket bat not a sword.

Hookbill the Goomba 04-01-2005 10:11 AM

Fortunatly, Aragorn bowled him a wonderful ball, worthy of Lords cricket ground, and so Faramir could hit it at Gollum with his bat... (Obviously)

Mithalwen 04-01-2005 10:15 AM

Unfortunately Gollum's agility made him a natural wicket keeper and he made an impressive catch...

Boromir88 04-01-2005 10:26 AM

Fortunately, Gollum has clammy hands and is a natural butterfingers and drops the ball

Mithalwen 04-01-2005 10:28 AM

Unfortunately it falls with force on to Gimli's head

Boromir88 04-01-2005 10:35 AM

Fortunately, Gimli has an extremely hard skull, and it doesn't phase him.

Mithalwen 04-01-2005 11:14 AM

or even faze him...

Unfortunately Gimli does not have quick reactions and so hasn't seized the window of opportunity opened by Gollum releasing his neck in order to catch the ball...

Maeggaladiel 04-01-2005 11:30 AM

Fortunately, Aragorn DID posses aforementioned quick reaction time and leapt forward.

Boromir88 04-01-2005 11:32 AM

Unfortunately, Legolas was getting jealous no one was mentioning his name in this thread, so he tackled Aragorn.

Mithalwen 04-01-2005 11:36 AM

Fortunately Aragorn had a weight advantage on the elf and so evaded the tackle.

Kath 04-01-2005 01:32 PM

Unfortunately Legolas was still holding his steel-tipped arrow and it went through Aragorns leg as he threw Legolas to the ground.

the phantom 04-01-2005 01:36 PM

Fortunately, Gollum found this so amusing that he couldn't stop laughing long enough to mount a new attack.

Mithalwen 04-01-2005 01:55 PM

Unfortunately Arwen showed up and got the wrong idea about the whole messy situation..

Eomer of the Rohirrim 04-01-2005 02:13 PM

Fortunately, Aragorn's massive blood loss ensured that there would be no lover's tiff.

Kath 04-01-2005 02:18 PM

Unfortunately during this little interlude Gollum had stopped laughing and had his hands back around Gimli's neck.

Boromir88 04-01-2005 02:24 PM

Fortunately, somehow gollum's precious rolled past and he let go of Gimli and scampered after it.

Mithalwen 04-01-2005 02:38 PM

Unfortunately, he had reckoned without Arwen's hyper sensitive jewellery radar & elven speed. She got there first with her nassty sharp elvishes sword.....

Feanor of the Peredhil 04-01-2005 02:52 PM

Fortunately, when she tried to put the Ring on her sword, it didn't fit, saving the group from a messy fate with an invisible sword.

Kath 04-01-2005 02:55 PM

Unfortunately this problem allowed Gollum to get his sticky little fingers back on the precious.

Feanor of the Peredhil 04-01-2005 02:58 PM

Fortunately, there was a lava flow nearby.

Unfortunately it was stopped up by the body of a preternaturally stupid troll who, in a state of blissful thickness just happened to fall face-first into it at that exact moment.

Feanor of the Peredhil 04-01-2005 03:13 PM

Fortunately for the troll, he had very thick skin.

Unfortunately for him (but fortunately for everyone else), it was broad daylight, and he turned to stone instantaneously to the sound of long and loud lamentations (from the troll).

Boromir88 04-01-2005 11:47 PM

Fortunately Faramir was still holding his cricket bat, and whapped Gollum on the side of the head, and the Ring goes flying out of his hands.

Evisse the Blue 04-02-2005 08:19 AM

Unfortunately no one saw where exactly it (the Ring) landed.

Feanor of the Peredhil 04-02-2005 09:15 AM

Fortunately, Gwihir just happened to fly by and saw it laying in the mud by Legolas' hare.

Kath 04-02-2005 09:19 AM

Unfortunately he was exceptionally hungry and picked up the hare rather than the ring and forgot to tell anyone about it.

Hookbill the Goomba 04-02-2005 10:00 AM

Fortunatly, the hare had the ring and Gwihir saw it.

Mithalwen 04-02-2005 10:53 AM

Unfortunately the hare slipped the ring on to it's paw and he disappeared which freaked Gwaihir out so much that he dropped it.
