Okay, I don't really know if this has been discussed before, but here's a question for everyone. Of all the substances discussed in ME, which would you like most to try? By substances I mean foods, drinks, pipe-weed, etc. You could also say what you would most like to see: mithril, silmarils, etc.

I, personally have always been dying to try lembas (though a bit of miruvor would be good, too). Anyone else want to share?

My choice

Excellent topic, X! I would like to see Moria silver, or truesilver...the whole world coveted it, so it must have been something to behold!

I would also like to try some Lonbottom leaf, or Old Toby, or Southern Star, and follow it with an Entdraught.

One of the best things about reading Tolkien is the way he really makes you appreciate the little things in life, such as a slab of cheese and a mess of mushrooms, something &quot;hot out of the pot,&quot; followed by a warm bath!

Some rabbit stew sounds pretty nice, although it isn't really the time of the year for it. I would like a nice tall glass of entdraught to give me those extra couple inches that I desire. I would love to have Beorn or one of the more renowned hobbits fix me a meal.

I think that i would like an entdraught or two. . .i could stand to be a bit taller. Blowing smoke rings with gandalf would be nice, but his would always be bigger and more elaborate than mine. And to see truesilver would be wonderful, since all of ME coveted it (besides the hobbits, of course!)

I've really enjoyed everyone's responses to this thread so far. I, myself, would love to walk in Lorien once in each season to view the fullness of its beauty. Lembas in one hand, miruvor in the other, clad in a grey/green elven cloak with the sounds of singing in my ears. Ahhh.

I don't know if the Mods will agree with me on this one, but this is too good a thread to not try to resurrect; Living up to my nickname here!
After reading all of these responses, I would have to say that knocking back a few beers with Samwise Gamgee would make for a pleasant afternoon, but drinking Elrond's Miruvor, with Elrond himself sitting across the table from you, well, that would just be perfect.
And perhaps kingsfoil would help with the hangover! [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img]
And as for other substances...Well, I'm not quite sure if this is a substance, but holding the phial of Galadriel would truly be something.

I want to see - or better yet - climb a mallorn. And I'd like to have a good heart to heart talk with Frodo after his return to the Shire. In fact many talks.

Mmmm...food...lembas would be good for long arduous journeys but I don't think I'd feel right just hanging out in Lothlorien and picnicking on it. Same with miruvor. I'd stick with man-food (or hobbit-food), as Treebeard would say. To be honest, I would love to be invited to tea at Bag End when Bilbo and Frodo were both living there - the description of the tea with the Dwarves in "The Hobbit" always makes me hungry, especially the cakes [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]. We could have cakes, tea, cold chicken and pickles etc. (no coffee, though, even if the Dwarves asked for it - nassssty coffee) and talk about the Quest of Erebor, and of course we wouldn't worry that any more serious consequences might come from anything Bilbo might have done along the way...

Or if that's too much, I wouldn't pass up a chance to swallow a few mugs of the best beer in Southfarthing at the Golden Perch....

I could probably go with some Ent draught to get me through my 8-hour shift. (Hmmmm, wonder if Hobbits had time clocks?...Nah!)

After work a nice athalas poupourri simmering on the stove might help. But I'll stick to my beer, thanks. Can't hold my miruvor any more.

Ohh, I think that I would like to try Sam's Stewed Rabbit and herbs, with some of his taters. Of course, some lembas. I don't recall who called lembas weetbix, but I disagree. Gimli said that they tasted sweeter than the honeycakes of the Beornings. I love anything with honey in them! [img]smilies/wink.gif[/img] Also, just a glass or two of the Ent-draught would be nice. I need to add just a little to my height - I'm 5'6".

I would love to see Lothloríen and Imladris just once. I think that a visit to Deeping Coomb (the Glitering Caves) would be great. I would like to see the White Tree of Aragorn, the Silmarilis, Narsil/Anduril, and the Falls of Raous, the horses of Rohan.

Why don't you just take me to see all of Middle Earth! Then i might be happy.

What I don't understand about lembas is the word "waybread". It is obviously not the same as "wheybread" which would mean made from cottage cheese. Is "waybread made from road signs?

Raefindel, lembas are called waybread because they give strenght to the travellers, I guess it helps them on their "way".

Regardless, I would join the throng in having Lembas and miruvor. I would want to have it while discovering Mirkwood. I love to walk and hike and I think the two would make a great picnic.

I want to sit at the Golden Perch, drink some of the best beer in the Shire, and enjoy some Longbottom Leaf.

I want to see the trees. I would visit Lothlorien and Mirkwood. I would love to sit on Treebeard's shoulder and go for a walk. [img]smilies/tongue.gif[/img]

I always picture lembas as tasting something like baklava, except it wouldn't crumble all over your clothes. [img]smilies/smile.gif[/img]

...course i wouldn't mind having several helpings of lembas incidentally, while lounging on treebeard's limbs and gazing across the canopy of fangorn forest...hmmm lovely....
