Another is "town ripped in two" (the fact that men where 'divided' in middle earth, or in other words, too many past disputes and grudges.) Faramir: "The perfect Fit" ~ Dresden Dolls... "Comfortably Numb" by the ever-glorious Pink Floyd describes Theoden under the influence of Saruman and Grima. Of course, the extent of his deterioration and helplessness depends on whether you go by the book or movie version of Theodon, but either way it's applicable.
