Theme Songs

Just songs that connect to the characters in Tolkien's books.

Denethor- "Burn baby burn...disco inferno!"

Boromir (Carrying on the Disco family legend)- "Staying alive, staying alive"

Bombadil- "Skippety-do-da Skippety-ay, My oh my, what a wonderful day."

Legolas- "Man, I feel like a Woman!"

Helm Hammerhand- "Ice, Ice, baby!"

King Thranduil- "If I were the king of Lothlorien! What a king I would be-e-e-." (Think The lion, Wizard of Oz).

Yavanna- "Green grass grows all around, all around, and the green grass grows all around."

Gimli (I just picture as a rapper)- "I like big butts and I cannot lie..."

Varda- "Twinkle, Twinkle, little star."

Sam- I Dig a Pony

Aragorn (to Arwen)- My Immortal

Lúthien: Iris by Goo-Goo Dolls.
And I'd give up forever to touch you . . .
Need I go on? ;)

~*~

Thorin and Co.:
Heigh ho, heigh ho. To Smaugie we will go.

Elves in general during the Third Age: Somewhere Only We Know by Keane.
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete

Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?
So Eldarinly melancholic. Keane rocks.

Sapphire_Flame 12-06-2004 09:27 AM

For Sauron, "Every Breath You Take" by The Police:

"Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take

I'll be watching you

Every single day
Every word you say
Every game you play
Every night you stay

I'll be watching you

Oh can't you see
You belong to me
How my poor heart aches with every step you take

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake

I'll be watching you

Since you've gone I've been lost without a trace
I dream at night I can only see your face
I look around but it's you I can't replace
I feel so cold and I long for your embrace
I keep crying baby, baby please

Every move you make
Every vow you break
Every smile you fake
Every claim you stake

I'll be watching you"

*~~~~*~~~~*

Heheheh...

A couple of others:

Frodo: "My Immortal" by Evanescence

Faramir & Eowyn: "Broken" by Seether (feat. Amy Lee)

I'll be back with more later. :D

Sorry to go a bit OT here, but:
Quote:

Sam & Gaffer "Father and Son" Cat Stevens ( NOT Westlife - puhleaze)
. Mith, t'was Boyzone who did a remake of Father and Son. Quite good, IMO. :)

Back on topic now!

Aragorn and Arwen - Over the hills and far away (take out the pistol part, and the rest goes well, especially the chorus!)
Denethor - I 'm going slightly mad (Queen) - slightly, eh!
Speaking of Queen:
Dwarves: 'We will rock you' (that one was kind of cheap, I know... :p )
Aragorn/Frodo/Gandalf: Wanted dead or alive (Bon Jovi)

You know what would be Shelob's perfect theme song though? 'Hold me, thrill me, kiss me, kill me'. What, think it's too cheesy? :p

Actually quite glad I didn't know that ;) ..... boy bands ... eeeeeek .... not quite my thang.....

And to go back to a band of real men..

How about "The doors" "Endless Night" for Feanor (ripped from blake) "Realms of Bliss, realms of Light, some are born to Sweet delight... some are born to the end of thenight.."

How about "Thriller"? ;)

"It's Close To Midnight And Something Evil's Lurking In The Dark
Under The Moonlight You See A Sight That Almost Stops Your Heart
You Try To Scream But Terror Takes The Sound Before You Make It
You Start To Freeze As Horror Looks You Right Between The Eyes,
You're Paralyzed

'Cause This Is Thriller, Thriller Night
And No One's Gonna Save You From The Beast About To Strike
You Know It's Thriller, Thriller Night
You're Fighting For Your Life Inside A Killer, Thriller
Tonight

You Hear The Door Slam And Realize There's Nowhere Left To Run
You Feel The Cold Hand And Wonder If You'll Ever See The Sun
You Close Your Eyes And Hope That This Is Just Imagination
But All The While You Hear The Creature Creepin' Up Behind
You're Out Of Time

'Cause This Is Thriller, Thriller Night
There Ain't No Second Chance Against The Thing With Forty Eyes
You Know It's Thriller, Thriller Night
You're Fighting For Your Life Inside Of Killer, Thriller Tonight"

Lalwendë 12-06-2004 03:51 PM

I've not been silly today yet, so here are a few more, the joke's in the titles ;) :

Grima - Creep- Radiohead
Grima to Aragorn - Get Your Hands off my Woman - the Darkness
Beren/Luthien - Ever Fallen in Love With Someone (You Shouldn’t Have Fallen in Love With) - Buzzcocks
Earendil - Ray of Light - Madonna
Frodo - I started Something I couldn’t Finish - The Smiths (a bit mean...)
The Ring - How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead
Goldberry - Down by the Water - PJ Harvey
The Balrog - Firestarter - prodigy

EDIT: and for Shelob and all her kind, what about the creepiest spider song of all time? Lullaby by the Cure? "the spider man is having me for dinner tonight".

THE Ka 12-06-2004 10:18 PM

hmm... where to start...

Aragorn: "I was born on the other side/of a town ripped in two/i made it over the great divide/now i'm coming for you..." ~ John Cameron Mitchell

I really don't know why but, I tend to compare "divide" by the fact that Aragorn spent most of his time in the north (the two different kingdoms that were ruled by the numenoreans) before the fellowship. Another is "town ripped in two" (the fact that men where 'divided' in middle earth, or in other words, too many past disputes and grudges.)

Faramir: "The perfect Fit" ~ Dresden Dolls... A lovely piano rock song about a not-so-perfect being, forced to be. "i can't fix a car/but i can fix a flat/i could fix alot of things/but i'd rather not get into that"... "

Another for Aragorn is: "Half Jack" ~ Dresden Dolls

Well, i've done my share. Until next time...

~Musing Ka~

Encaitare 12-07-2004 08:20 PM

Hah! Thought of one.

"Comfortably Numb" by the ever-glorious Pink Floyd describes Theoden under the influence of Saruman and Grima. Of course, the extent of his deterioration and helplessness depends on whether you go by the book or movie version of Theodon, but either way it's applicable. Lyrics hither for those of ye who are unfamiliar with the lovely tune.

I wonder if that's a crime in M-E... RUI: Ruling Under the Influence. Hah. Oh, don't mind me, too much history and a surplus of Supreme Court cases are making me delerious. Four AP American History essays down, one to go. I'm so efficient. :p

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-07-2004 09:20 PM

More songs!

Balrogs: Fallin' by someone (I forgot--too many local versions!)
I'm afraid to fly
And I don't know why
I'm jealous of the people who are not afraid to die
It's just that that I recall
Back when I was small
Someone told me that I could fly
But then it's really false
And now I'm fallin'
Fallin' fast again . . .

Arwen and Aragorn: Beauty and the Beast http://www.geocities.com/louis_martian/smilies/evil.gif

Maeggaladiel 12-10-2004 11:16 AM

Balrog- You are the Wind Beneath my Wings (??)

Frodo and Sam while in Cirith Ungol- Boris the Spider by The Who.

Nasgul- Ride of the Valkyries (sp?) or Flight of the Bumblebee I know they can't sing it, but I think it would be cool to have that playing in the background every time they rode somewhere.

Grima- I Can't Get No Satisfaction

Sauron- These Eyes... er... maybe This Eye.

ninlaith 12-10-2004 02:08 PM

Mine is a little different....I just put parts of songs that I think of when i see certain parts of the movie

Denethor: Come on baby light my fire

Pip and Merry: The run is on, the jig is up, they've finally found me

Boromir: Walk like a man

Gandalf: Fly like an Eagle

Frodo: If I could turn back time

Arwen: And I need you now tonight, and I need you more than ever

Aragorn: Wanderer, yeah I'm the wanderer

Sam: Whenever you're in trouble won't you stand by me

Gollum: Why can't we be friends

Legolas: Walk this way!!! (he's just far too swell for any other song)

Gimli: Hit me with your best shot

Nilpaurion Felagund 12-10-2004 10:32 PM

Haldir, Rúmil, and Orophin: My Band by D12.

Got a few more (I've been watching cartoons, if you're wondering :))

Hobbits: (esp. Pippin): 'The Bare Necessities': Look for the bare necesities/ forget about your worries and your strife/, Old Mother's nature recipes'...etc

the Fellowship: That's what friends are for: "We're your friends/ till the bitter end...'

Saruman (and/or Grima) - Kaa's (the snake) song - come to think of it, Grima strikes me as a very reptilian sort of person ;): 'Trust in me, just in me, you can sleep safe and sound, Knowing I am around.'

And for the Nazgul: "Walking in the air": We're walking in the air/ We're floating in the moonlit sky/ And people all around/ Will great us as we fly.' (yeah, with yells and arrows)

Oh and for Aragorn and Arwen this would be their theme song: Once upon a dream, because it illustrates very well the fact that their love mirrors that of Luthien and Beren. Check out the lyrics: (corny as they may be):
I know you
I walked with you once upon a dream.
I know you
The gleam in your eyes is so familiar a gleam
Yes, I know it's true
that visions are seldom all they seem
But if I know you, I know what you'll do
You'll love me at once
the way you did once upon a dream

Ok now- enough of a Disney fest, Tolkien would have been very annoyed cause he hated Disney. Oh well...

Gandalf on Orthanc: I want to fly away- Lenny Kravitz

Frodo: Paranoid- Linkin Park
It's like I'm...paranoid, looking over my back,
It's like a...whirlwind inside of my head;
It's like I...can't stop what I'm feeling within,
It's like a Wheel of Fire is right beneath my skin!

How about this for Grima?

"Imagine me and you, I do
I think about you day and night, it's only right
To think about the girl I stalk, both day and night
So happy together...

I can't see me stalking nobody but you,
For all your life!
When you're with me, baby, the skies will be blue,
For all my life!"

'Tis a parody, by a local group called InsideOut, of a more well-known song. ;) I thought it worked for Grima sneaking around after Eowyn...

True, true. The cover has a sadder sound because it doesn't include the middle part that's in the original... "When my fist clenches, crack it open" and all that. *Enca rocks out inside her head, having no tunes with her at present*
