Horse-Maiden of the Shire 04-22-2003 07:14 PM

Well at least Sapphire stopped dying.

You know you're obsessed when:
~You do something LOTR-ish in class and the teachers roll their eyes and say "It's just them."
~You make a nameplate in I.A. and you put your middle-earth name on it
~You take your hobbit walking-stick to school
~You plan to be Merry and Pippin for a day with your friend
~You refer to the mean guy in your class as Lurtz
~You write back and forth to your friend on paper ways to kill Lurtz
~You yell out randomly, "Do the Wave for Boromir the Disco King!!!!"

BTW, I have done all of these. Oh, yes. There will be more. Just you wait. Muwahahahahaa....

Senseless Skwerl 04-22-2003 07:17 PM

i am amazed at how many of these relate to me, should i be scared? no way! with anything else i would be, but this IS the lord of the rings!
okay, you know that you're addicted when:
1. your friends try to have a decent conversation, and you somehow turn it lotr related.
2. you wake up in the morning and think, "i wish i had no school, then i could watch AND read the lord of the rings, all day long!"
3. middle-earth is real, this is just a dream to wake out of.
4. memorizing dwarvish runes was child's play, it's those elven accents on vowels you have to work on!
5. when in school, you find yourself playing the movies over and over in your head, just to get through the day, (incidently, that works super well!)
6. when the guys (or girls) in your class try to open up your pencil case to "borrow" something, you say the famous line, "YOU CAN NOT PASS!" and it works.
7. you never thought you were addicted, you knew it all along!
8. when running in gym class, you murmer just out of ear shot, "keep breathin', that's the key, whoa!"
9. in gym again, when doing beep tests, to keep your friends going and not colapse, you scream at the top of your lungs, "nuro lim, _____!!!"
10. everywhere you look, SOMETHING reminds you of that wonderful place!
this is me in a nutshell, what can i say!??

Lily Bombadil 04-22-2003 09:11 PM

Eressie Ailin & Arfangwen,
Sorry! I meant no offence! Actually, I live in Texas, too, but I don't like it here inspite of the fact that I've lived here forever. I'd rather be in North Carolina with my mother's family & my boyfriend. I don't suppose it's Texas its self, I just hate my town mostly.

Sorry to offend you!

Lily Bombadil 04-22-2003 09:17 PM

Today in history when my teacher said, "Think of all you know about the Civil War." The first thing that came to my mind was the Battle of Five Armies. Worse yet I almost suggested it!

Eressië Ailin 04-22-2003 09:17 PM

None taken. That's why I had the 'lil thingy. Besides, I'd rather be back home in New York.

Quote:

~You yell out randomly, "Do the Wave for Boromir the Disco King!!!!"
You don't know how many times I've done that!!! And the sad thing is, I always get a group of people and start doing the wave!

Oh, and thank you for your concern about my frequent deaths, Horse-Maiden. I'll try not to do it so often, I assure you!

Annalaliath 04-23-2003 02:10 PM

you realize that you arer memorizing the elvish script.....

start talking to your classmates (in college) in sindarin and say to your instructor things like Mea Govannen....

you are realy anoyed with your family cause they can't remeber anything out of the LOTR )and there I go again babbling on and on I think i may be realated to a Took....)

kittiewhirl1677 04-23-2003 02:13 PM

Yes, I was having a sleepover with my friend who is also a LOTR crazed BDer, and we kept on shouting "DO THE WAVE FOR BOROMIR THE DICO KING!!!" in the middle of the night, because we could fall asleep. I was surprized when my parents didn't rush into the room and start screaming at us about waking them up!

We also imagined random scenes from LOTR that same night... we are obsessed.

Another thing is, that one time I was riding in the car with my mom, and we see this sign that says: Queenswood gas station. I read it as Mirkwood gas station. LOL!

Annalaliath 04-24-2003 07:02 PM

i usually leave the message of "im pedbeth le" on my friends answering machin. i saw her today when she was working and i blurted that out and then i asked her if she knew what it was. she said she was not good enough yet.....

your spelling in Elvish is better than in English.

you use LOTR as an excuse for anything...

Not much taken Lily Bombadil! I know how you feel, kinda..... I used to live in Houston, but we moved and I hate Austin....... *voice trails off as she grumbles something about freeze dried hippies*

ElenCala Isil 04-25-2003 03:49 PM

I know I'm obsessed when...

1.I Wear the One Ring on a chain, and scream "They're after my preciousss" when someone asks to see it

2.I speak elvish unconciously

3.Half of what I say are quotes from the movie (the other half is Quenya)

4.I stayed home just to watch FoTR again

5.I say "there is a fell voice in the air" whenever my least favorite teacher speaks

6. Whenever I don't know a question on a test, I make up an answer relating to Tolkien

7.I have the script to FoTR and TTT which I spoofed and made "Lord of The Ties" after seeing multiple pictures of Elijah wearing the same tie at many, many different events.

8. I made a shrine to Frodo Baggins as a subprofile.

9.My website is devoted to life in the Shire. (and other LoTR graphics)

10. I saved all my lunch money so I could get enough to go to the premiere

and a whole bunch of other stuff which shall not be mentioned

Tinuviel of Denton 04-25-2003 04:50 PM

I go by Tinuviel, I am going to legally change my name to Tinuviel, I have published poetry under that name, to which I respond better than to my real name, and as soon as I have the money, I'm going to have plastic surgery and have Elven ears for real.
Top that!

Lily Bombadil 04-25-2003 04:56 PM

OK! Nobody try to top Tinuviel unless you REALLY can. That'll be hard!

Oh! Know you're obsessed when-

At age 2, you stop eating your veggies & wheaties. When mommy asks, "Why?", you say you wanna be a hobbit when you grow- I mean DON'T grow up.

Tinuviel of Denton 04-25-2003 05:03 PM

Texas is Mordor!!!!! (and I live there.)
I forgot to mention this. For my speech class, I did a speech on the history of the elves. I don't think anyone understood a word I said (even though I pronounced everything right.)

*Grabs keyboard*
This is Tinuviel. We're sisters, if you can't tell.

WHOOP! You'd fit right in here in College Station!

As for being obsessed...

How many other people have an Elvish name for their AIM screen name?

While shopping with a friend (thankfully familiar at least with the movies): I'm sorting through the hangers on a clearance rank and randomly say, "Back, you devils!" - apropos absolutely nothing. I still can't figure out where that came from!

And I've practiced writing Tengwar letters during math recitation, and I write quotes and Elvish names on top of my notes nearly every day.

Arafangwen 04-26-2003 09:32 AM

Tuneviel of Denton: Mordor is bad! Texas is good! What of that do you not understand?!

Nuranar: Why would I fit in at College Station? I guess since I hate UT..... I have a friend who lives in CS! She's crazy fun!

And for the discusion, I say that too Nuranar! Never thought about where I might have gotten it though...... Must reflect on this...... I also say "You shall not pass" all the time! Life is fun.......

Alatariel Telemnar 04-26-2003 02:54 PM

You know you're obsessed with LOTR when you:
~name your pets after LOTR characters
~give people a special name involving LOTR to your friends
~insist that ppl call you your elvish(hobbit) name
~call someone a Took (or Fool of a Took) when they do something stupid
~yell to your sibling "You Shall Not PASS!!!" when she/he would like to get by and you are blocking them

Sorry if these were already done

Haelothiel 04-26-2003 04:03 PM

Your friend steals the one ring and you promptly tackle her and scream "I'll pull a gollum and bite off your finger! I really will!"
You say to your friend, "If I'm an elf doesn't that make you an Elendil?"
Every day you ask Elendil (she did give me permission!), "So once my hair grows out you will do my hair elvish won't you?"

Tinuviel of Denton 04-26-2003 06:06 PM

Arafangwen.
Texas is HORRIBLE HORRIBLEHORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have nothing against Texans, but I hate Texas.

Anyway...
I don't have a ME name for my AIM screen name, but that's because I don't have AIM. I do have tinuviel as part of my email.

Something funny.
There's a theater near where I live that starts showing movies about two weeks after they're out of other theaters. My little sister, not Durlossiel, just turned 11. I'm taking her to a movie instead of buying something. I asked her what movie she wanted to see, then immediately suggested TTT. She gave me the strangest look and said, "That, again?"
What did I do?

Oh yeah. Guilty to all of the above from page one on.

FINALLY! I found someone who agrees with me about Tx. Hi, Tinuviel. Sorry Tx lovers!

Anywho, my cousin has a ferret. She was going to name it Smeagol, but it's a girl so she named it smeaglet.

Tinuviel of Denton 04-26-2003 10:42 PM

What is "Do the wave for Boromir the Disco King?"

What about wearing an elven-cloak everywhere so that you're know not by your name, but as "the one with the cape."

And I didn't get to see TTT tonight after all. *sobs hysterically*

Lily: Let's start an anti-TX club, shall we?

I have no comment on the Texas/Mordor thing, as I've never been there.

This afternoon my little sister and my dad came into my room. This is what I said to them:

"This is no bedroom, but a graveyard! You should never have come here. Get out, get out!!!"

...followed by a few more 'Get out!'s until they did.

It's funny. Right now I have a cough, and my best friend commented that when I'm having a coughing fit, I sound like Gollum in the movie TTT

you should check out the make your own scene with pics thread.

DO THE WAVE FOR GOLLUM THE NOT QUITE SURE WHICH GENDER ROYALTY!

Annalaliath 04-27-2003 11:22 AM

I went to the prom and had a blast. In my Galadriel dress i shouted out things like the old " do the wave for borimor the disco king," and "Frodo Lives." I met some other Tolkienists, one at the resturant, and the other at the prom. Frnkly we started to shout out random LOTR things. We also tried beating up my date cause he called Frodo gay.

you can have a conversation about LOTR with a total stranger and the rest of your friends have no idea what you are talking about.

In the game of Chinese Cheakers(which the whole of the art department is hooked) you say random lines from both movie and book. especially when the ceramic students are checking the kilns," fly you fools," Then you name the youngest member of the group a little kid Laliath, for being the silliest kid on earth.

They get you coffee to shut you up about LOTR.

Rindoien, elf of Lothlorien 04-27-2003 11:32 AM

Hehe..and:
1) Your friends positively refuse to speak with you about boys, movies, blond hair, hairy feet, books, or anything related because we ALL know where THAT will lead to.
2) Your friends tell you they do not want to know anything more about LotR before you even take a breath to start chattering your endless stream of words.
3) You consider yourself bilingual; after all, you DO speak Elvish. Fluently. (Actually that makes me quatrelingual, English, Spanish, French AND Elvish.)
4) When your friends point and scream 'there he is!' you turn around just in case.
5) You want a tattoo of the Fellowship of Nine, because the experience was too wonderful to forget.
6) You know all the cinema employees by name, and they all know you by name.
7) You have added various other meals to your list, elevensies, after lunch, second breakfast....
8) You cannot count on your fingers the many times you've seen the movie.
9) When ordering any drink you automatically ask if it comes in pints.
10) You can tell how many times 'Frodo' is said in the movie. (98)
11) You know the proper Elvish name for Legolas is. (Laegolas)
12) You become irritated if anyone you ask has NOT seen the movie. Insulting.
14) Any other movie is out of the question, it is considered betrayal.
15) You walk barefoot, insisting that 'Hobbits can do it, so can you.'
16) When you see the movie (again) you can quote it word for word. (I amar prestar aen, the world is changed, han mathon ne nen.....)
17) You are insulted when someone calls you 'Human'.
18) You have pointy ears surgically attached.
19) You stare at the birdbath, trying to see 'things that are, things that were, and things that have not yet come to pass.'
20) You cried during the movie. All ten times you've seen it.
21) You are on the LotR DVD/Video waiting list, just waiting for August.
22) You have or are trying to get all LotR merchandise available, after all you NEED, the action figures, posters, games, cards....
23) You are learning how to shoot a bow and arrow.
24) You have hurt someone trying to learn how to shoot the bow and arrow.
25) You have hurt someone trying to learn how to shoot the bow and arrow with 2 arrows at once.
26) You have a scratch on your cheek just like Arwen. Purposefully.
27) You run around in the woods screaming "Ho! Tom Bombadil." And you provide anyone you run into with mounds of food and protection from mean oak trees.
28) If you had a horse his name would be Asfaloth or Shadowfax.
29) If you had a pony his name would be Bill or Fatty Lumpkin.
30) You spent days making an Arwen costume for Halloween, but are insulted when people say they don't know who Arwen is.
31) When someone refuses to hand over the remote control you scream, "preccciousss, we must have our preciousssss."
32) You have scared away people with your Gollum imitation.
33) You envy "little people" because they most resemble Hobbits. You call them Hobbits - they don't like it. You don't care.
34) You are positive that your next-door neighbour is a Hobbit.
35) You plan to name your kids like the Hobbits, Drank, son of Frank or Lorence, son of Torence.

Bekah 04-27-2003 06:47 PM

Well, I've done #2, and my gollum imitation on various things, and some of the others I've seriously thought about or else done in another way (i.e. doing the dishes: take a milk bottle, fill it up..."The mirror shows many things. Things that were..."). Only I already have a white horse, and her name is Lady Glesen. I can't change it.

~ Elentari II

P.S. Do you really have surgically attached pointy ears??

Whew, that was funny. You know you're obsessed with LOTR when:

1. Your gulity of everything posted on this thread

2. You're no longer mad about being short because you make a really great hobbit.

3. You start acting like a hobbit becuase you're short.

4. On weekends you try and have all the meals a hobbit would eat, and end up having to take a large amount of pepto-bismal at around midnight.

5. No one talks to you about movies, the oscars, elves, dwarfs, anything remotly fantasy related, good books, or south park, but that's for different reason...
