Dwarf Quotes

I thought, since I am a fan of Gimli, that I might start a thread for quotes only of dwarves. These quotes only have to have been said by dwarves, and be from the LOTR trilogy, The Hobbit, or the Silmarillion. Here is the starting quote:

"Will they not say?"

A fairly easy one to start out. Good luck all, and if you need a hint, just reply to this post.

Come on people, doesnt anyone else like dwarves? I know there are plenty of people who can geuss the quote at least. It is from FOTR.

Liriodendron 04-10-2003 12:34 PM

Ok! With that hint, I believe that quote is from Gloin, at the Council of Elrond. He was asking the elf lords in attendance to comment on where the elf rings were.

Vardamar 04-10-2003 01:13 PM

If it counts as a quote, then Gimlis battle cry has to be the coolest battle cry out there.

Dondagnirion 04-12-2003 07:43 AM

Liriod gets it, good job, your turn. Remember everyone any dwarf quote from The Hobbit or any of the trilogy.

Liriodendron 04-12-2003 12:40 PM

Thanks! Next dwarf quote....

"Faithless is he who says farewell when the road darkens."

Who and when?

Firondoiel 04-12-2003 06:33 PM

Gimli, when the fellowship is leaving Rivendell.

Rochelle 04-12-2003 07:03 PM

My favorite quote! *hehe* You got here 'fore me

Liriodendron 04-12-2003 08:15 PM

Yes! It's true. Dear Gimli. You're up again.

Kain Snowbrace 04-14-2003 08:21 PM

How bout this quote?

..." more like a grocer than a burglar!"

Who and what book?

Beren87 04-14-2003 08:32 PM

Kain, please read the Quiz Room Rules, which also apply in here, and you'll see that it's actually Firondoiel's turn.

Have fun in the Quiz and Quotes forums!

Firondoiel 04-15-2003 01:02 PM

I had forgotten that I had posted here! Anyways, new quote...

Quote:

"I have but returned to take what is mine; for I am the last of my people."
Good luck!

P.S. Welcome to the Barrow Downs Kain!

Morgoth Bauglir 04-15-2003 06:12 PM

min the petty dwarf

its been so long, i think thats his name though. meh

Dondagnirion 04-16-2003 11:15 AM

Actually it is Mim the petty dwarf, who is speaking I believe, to Hurin. This is around when Hurin comes to investigate the ruins of Nagothorond (I dont think I spelled that right, did I?)

Dondagnirion

Firondoiel 04-19-2003 12:33 PM

You are correct, it was Mīm.

Dondagnirion 04-19-2003 05:35 PM

Kk, here goes....

"You may do as you please in...."

Good luck, if you need a hint or for me to extend the quote a little (I should hope that you do not), just post.

You guys need a hint or want a new quote? It has been a while and this is a pretty easy quote.

Dondagnirion

Dondagnirion 05-02-2003 09:25 AM

Here is a hint, it was said in The Two Towers.

Dondagnirion

Dondagnirion 05-06-2003 10:47 AM

Jeez where is Beren? Whatever, here is a new quote.

"There is some good stonework here."

Try that one, if you need a hint ask me.

Beren87 05-06-2003 07:03 PM

Actualy the reason no one got your first quote is I believe you misquoted.

Did you mean
Quote:

Do as you please in your madness!
Which was said by Gimli to Legolas as he attempted to turn around to ride to the Ent on their way to Isengard.

Now, your second I can't seem to find. It wasn't in the RotK appendix was it, said by Gimli?

Firondoiel 05-06-2003 07:07 PM

I believe the second one is said by Gimli to Legolas at Helms Deep in ROTK.

That's what I thought too, but it isn't.

Tinuviel Took 05-07-2003 03:32 AM

It IS Gimli to Legolas, but when they entered Minas Tirth not about Helm's Deep.

Dondagnirion 05-08-2003 12:49 PM

Tinuviel gets it. Good job. Also, I did mean "Do as you please in your madness.", pardon me for such a greivous eroor *hidesinshame*.

Tinuviel Took 05-08-2003 02:25 PM

I have decided that it is difficult to find something that isn't very charateristic of the dwarf speeking.
Quote:

and winter comes after autumn

Firondoiel 05-08-2003 02:53 PM

That's Bifur in the chapter "On the Doorstep" in The Hobbit.

Tinuviel Took 05-09-2003 04:53 AM

Correct. It is now your turn.

Firondoiel 05-13-2003 10:08 AM

Sorry about the wait guys!

Quote:

"It passes our skill"

Beren87 05-13-2003 05:31 PM

Gimli to Gandalf about the doors of Moria? Something like "It passes our skill to do such things these days".

Just a guess.

Firondoiel 05-13-2003 08:51 PM

No it's not Gimli.

Beren87 05-13-2003 08:53 PM

Thorin to Gandalf about another such dooor?

This is an odd quote to have slipped my mind..

Dondagnirion 05-15-2003 09:16 AM

Thorin or Gloin to Gandalf about how they cannot rival the works of their fathers without one of the seven rings given to the dwarf lords.

Dondagnirion

Firondoiel 05-15-2003 11:43 AM

It was Thorin but it wasn't about a door or rivaling the works of their fathers. The one who tells me what he's talking about may go next.

Beren87 05-16-2003 09:57 PM

Ah, was it about the moon-runes on the map?

Firondoiel 05-18-2003 01:16 PM

No it is not, but you are very close!

Tinuviel Took 05-18-2003 02:40 PM

It is about Durin's Day.
Quote:

"It passes our skill in these days to guess when such a time will come again"

Firondoiel 05-19-2003 05:48 PM

Correct Tinuviel! Good job!

Tinuviel Took 05-20-2003 02:06 AM

Okay try this,

Quote:

I will tell you tidings gladly.
None of these message icons looks like it would be for Dwarves. We need an axe or somthing.

Tinuviel Took 05-26-2003 10:54 AM

Hello, People! Surely you don't need a hint already, with no quesses.

Liriodendron 05-26-2003 05:32 PM

OK! Gloin to Frodo, prior to the Council of Elrond, when asked about his people.
