The Might 01-28-2007 06:01 PM

Not really...
Actually I was first asked this on another site.
There the question was the same just 535 instead of 536.
I managed to find those with 536, but nobody with 535.After looking for some time, the person told me it was a typo and it should have been 536 instead of 535...that was annoying

Legate of Amon Lanc 01-29-2007 11:55 AM

I knew it. I overlooked it. The Dwarves were among my first thoughts and I was not clever enough to look up if there are any without the "I." or "II." in their names who have the same name. *sigh*

Of course, Oin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great, this was surely a braincooker, if you understand what I mean. :D A good training. You know how I did it? I was reading J.C.A.Tyler's Tolkien Companion and always stopping and checking when I saw two same names together. Fortunately, I stopped at G, and from Gloin it was not so far...

The Might 01-29-2007 01:45 PM

Yeah, the problem is you have several kings of Gondor/Arnor/Numenor who sometimes fit the first part, but never the second one
Good job! :)

Legate of Amon Lanc 02-01-2007 01:20 PM

Something easier now...

Who was the fairest of all elven princes?

The Might 02-01-2007 02:30 PM

I am not sure...maybe Fingolfin?

Legate of Amon Lanc 02-01-2007 02:36 PM

Nope. :p

Gil-Galad 02-01-2007 10:58 PM

i would say Fingon, but the fan-girl inside me would have to say Legolas perhaps...

Thinlómien 02-02-2007 02:20 AM

Finrod Felagund?

Legate of Amon Lanc 02-02-2007 03:10 AM

We have a winner!

Lommy got it! Finrod it was.
Just to support this:
Quote:

Thus King Finrod Felagund, fairest and most beloved of the house of Finwë, redeemed his oath; but Beren mourned beside him in despair.
(...)
They buried the body of Felagund upon the hill-top of his own isle, and it was clean again; and the green grave of Finrod Finarfin's son, fairest of all the princes of the Elves, remained inviolate, until the land was changed and broken, and foundered under destroying seas. But Finrod walks with Finarfin his father beneath the trees in Eldamar.
His father Finarfin was called the fairest of Finwë's sons, and his son Finrod was called the fairest of the elven princes.
I knew fan girls might protest (although I didn't expect it right from you Gil-Galad :D ), but the Professor said it clear ;)

Congratulations, Lommy! Your turn now.

Thinlómien 02-02-2007 03:26 AM

It was just a guess...! :D

But, Legate, you know I'm a Finrod fangirl, so it was pretty easy... ;)

Who was the Lalwendë in Tolkien's writings?

Gil-Galad 02-02-2007 08:13 AM

Lalwende means "laughing maiden"

and she was the Third child of Finwe and Indis.

so i guess she was the laughing maiden?

Thinlómien 02-02-2007 05:14 PM

Correct, I guess. (I'm not 100% sure about her being the 3rd child, but I'm sure she was their child... )

So, please take the thread, Gil. :)

Gil-Galad 02-02-2007 06:59 PM

Alrighty...

What was the Poetic Title of the lord of the skies?

its somewhat easy...

The Might 02-28-2007 02:18 PM

Almost forgot about this thread, but I guess it's never to late to answer:

Sulimo I suppose

Legate of Amon Lanc 02-28-2007 02:57 PM

Or the Elder King. But Súlimo is far more poetic, I think...

Gil-Galad 02-28-2007 06:35 PM

close, but not exact! guess again!

The Might 03-01-2007 11:36 AM

I guess that "Lord of the Breath of Arda" does sound more poteic

Gil-Galad 03-01-2007 05:09 PM

there you go TM

The Might 03-02-2007 07:54 AM

A new one:
Who was the first King of Gondor to die childless`?

Dimturiel 03-02-2007 01:24 PM

That was Falastur, right?

The Might 03-05-2007 03:39 PM

Yes...guess it was kind of hard to have kids if you're wife is Beruthiel

Dimturiel 03-06-2007 12:59 PM

Yeah, hard indeed. ;)

Ok, so tell me the name of the Rohirrim king in whose time Saruman comes to Isengard.

The Might 03-06-2007 01:11 PM

It was at Frealaf's corronation that Saruman first appeared and also gained the king's approval.

Dimturiel 03-07-2007 12:36 PM

Yep, so it was. Go ahead.

The Might 03-07-2007 12:43 PM

Who was the last to try to go past the Dark Door before the War of the Ring?

Legate of Amon Lanc 03-07-2007 01:04 PM

Baldor son of Brego?

The Might 03-07-2007 03:28 PM

Yes

Legate of Amon Lanc 03-08-2007 06:24 AM

Okay, so here goes another.

Who built the sentinels of Argonath?

The Might 03-08-2007 08:23 AM

Romendacil II according to Appendix A of LotR

Gil-Galad 03-08-2007 08:25 AM

Well the Numenoreans did... but do you mean which King was Reigning during its building?

King Romendacil II was at time the regent...

EDIT: X-Posted with TM only because i decided to research it... bah humbug

Legate of Amon Lanc 03-09-2007 07:23 AM

Of course, Rómendacil II, correct. It was far easier than I thought. Now, choose between yourselves. :) Well, maybe if we take it in the most basic line, TM has the two-minute bonus, so... But anyway, great job of both of you

The Might 03-09-2007 08:08 AM

Yay!

Anyway, who managed to save Gondor by first winning in the South, soon after in the North too?

Gil-Galad 03-09-2007 08:30 AM

King Earnur i'm pretty sure... he defeated the Wainriders then about 10 years later he drove the Witch-King out of Arnor with Glorfindel

The Might 03-09-2007 08:54 AM

Not really the answer I was looking for, but you're close

Gil-Galad 03-09-2007 09:17 PM

or maybe i mean Earnil, who defeated the Haradrim then went north and defeated the Easterlings

The Might 03-10-2007 12:46 PM

Yes, Earnil is the one I had in mind.

Gil-Galad 03-10-2007 11:14 PM

another easy one...

Who was the last king of the North?

Legate of Amon Lanc 03-11-2007 03:00 AM

Arvedui, eh?

The Might 03-11-2007 06:48 AM

I'd say Earendur, since Arvedui was the last king of Arthedain, while Earendur was the last king of the whole northern kingdom

Gil-Galad 03-11-2007 12:37 PM

hmmm... i was meaning Arvedui mainly because he was there and the last of the northern line though Earendur claimed the northern kingdom... but i will have to go with Legate so we can get a change of people
