Your Gift From Bilbo
In a Long Expected Party Bilbo gives out gifts from his home with notes brimming with sarcasm, one of my favorite bits to be honest. What bad habit do you have that you think Bilbo would give you a gift for?
As someone who procrastinates: "For Morsul a Calendar to help him keep his busy schedule." |
"For INZILADUN, for the purpose of MOTIVATION" on a pair of running shoes. Inziladun had stopped running because a knee injury had made him fearful like Lobelia kissing a Gamgee.
|
My gift would be a clay pipe with a crack in the bowl. And on the tag tied with a string to the pipe stem would be the words:
"For Morthoron, who insists that he really should quit smoking, yet still borrows pipeweed liberally from my jar." |
For BORO, finding it the RIGHT home, from B.B. on a specially made spiral notebook. Boro is left-handed and often complains about how everything in the world is made for the convenience of right-handers.
|
For Galadriel, from her patient listener B.B.: a microphone, for forcing people to hear her out when she is seeking attention among a crowd that is not interested in listening to her rambles.
|
"For Pitch, whenever you feel the need": on a bottle of pills against correctile dysfunction (=the urge to correct people on minor mistakes of no practical importance or relevance to the topic at hand just to show off how clever you are).
|
"For Encaitare, a large punchable pillow to help manage her stress, contributing thusly to the peace of the neighborhood."
|
For Aganzir, a needle and thread to employ in her needlework. Aganzir was known for knitting, but never got around to mending the tears in her clothes and kept dropping things through the holes in her pockets.

Can we can more than one gift?
Also for Galadriel: a display case to show off the pictures she will draw, the stories she will write, the music she will compose, the crafts projects she will build, and the really clever Tolkien essay she will post on the Downs. Galadriel's plans and visions were often much grander and more numerous than her achieved accomplishments. |
For Pervinca, an alarm clock ... or, more preferably, a teasmaid, to allay her aversion to mornings.
|
“For Merrymatt, a black leather journal and quill”, since he had a habit of writing extensive or exhilarating stories before forgetting to post at his stated time.
Or...he’s secretly writing rpg tales (Secretly taps into red-eyed palantir) |
