Eowyn Arwen Galadriel

who do you prefer and why?????
I know that this is a very open ended question

Inziladun 11-17-2001 07:57 AM

Of the three I would have to say Galadriel. She always seemed to me to have the most depth of any of the female characters. Her incredible age was one reason for that, and I like the fact that she was present nearly from the very beginning of the Elves, and yet stayed in ME until Sauron was defeated. In addition, despite her great power she was able to resist the temptation of the Ring. Lots of character and wisdom there.

Viliel 11-17-2001 09:26 AM

i think Eowyn is the best just because... she is real, if you follow my meaning she is very live, very natural...

enep 11-18-2001 02:46 AM

Arwen, however beautiful she is supposed to be, is never heard of in LoTR, basically. Eowyn is undoubtably courageous and brave - her actions in spite of the role she was given prove that. Galadriel, however, is not only beautiful like Arwen but brave, courageous and strong-willed like Eowyn.

Halbarad 11-18-2001 04:51 PM

But was Eowyn not beautiful? Although not an elf she was beautiful so I would put her up there with Galadriel. One cannot help being human after all

BtW: Galadriel

Eowyn of Ithilien 11-20-2001 02:24 PM

It's obvious that my favourite is Eowyn but I want to explain why
Arwen doesn't take an active role...she sits at home while Aragorn goes to war...and although she's physically the most like me (there's an otherwise definite blonde bias in this book! ) there's no chance that I would stay at home...Galadriel is perfect Perhaps I feel somewhat hmm intimidated by that??? Eowyn follows her heart and doesn't sit at home when she's told to And yes I suppose I'm just too romantic and the love between Faramir and herself also made me biased

Galadriel, born in Valinor during the time of the 2 trees, rebellious, falling under the doom of the Nolder, she dwells with Melian, learning from her, then journeys further inland, eventually becoming Lady of the Galadhrim, and forming the White council. Ever a foe of Sauron, and refusing the power when offered, to diminish into the West like the rest of the Elves. That's one classy lady!

Tarlondeion Of Gondolin 12-13-2001 04:51 PM

Its a tough one - Galadriel is basically perfect and Arwan is beautiful however I will have to go with Eowyn because shes very beautiful herself, she follows her heart and shes of the men (I obviosly dont use the term men literally) of Rohan who our by far my favourite people in middle Earth?

Ionia Luffs Reindeer 12-13-2001 06:11 PM

As much as I hate to jump on the bandwagon, Eowyn's my favourite and probably always will be. She's much more natural, as mentioned... She has flaws, both visual and to her character... *finding it difficult to word thoughts, as usual* Arwen and Galadriel seem the type to be admired, but from a distance, if you catch my meaning. I can only offer the horrible analogy of a unicorns and horses. While the unicorn might be far more perfect, I can almost promise that you'd be far happier in the company of a horse. Sometimes being around perfection isn't as enjoyable as being around well-constructed beauty that happens to pack a punch as well.

I phrased that horribly. And golden-tongued speakers wanna clarify that for me?

All hail the newbie!

Fenrir 12-14-2001 08:21 AM

Galadriel for refusing to take the one ring when it was offered to her, even though she knew it was the only thing that could preserve Lorien.

silme-ranaa 12-23-2001 07:06 PM

Eowyn showed outstanding courage ,so i would pick her.

Me jump. Bandwagon. Ha ha.

Yes, in case that didn't clear it up for you, I have to go with Eowyn. She's brave and strong, and fought for the ones that she loved, yet was fallible. The perfection of Galadriel was a bit too much for me; I prefer someone who's a bit more human. Although, of course, Galadriel isn't human. Eowyn also was interesting, seeing as how she was such a contrast. She was so strong and beautiful, yet weak and rather messed up on the inside. Plus she got one of the few romances in the books. red 01-01-2002 12:07 PM

I choose Elrond.

-réd

Eowyn of Ithilien 01-01-2002 03:41 PM

I, also, thought Galadriel was perfect but she isn't; Feanor seems to ignite in her a desire to rule without interference from the Valar

Grey Ship 01-01-2002 04:31 PM

As far as I can recall Galadriel had more golden hair than Eowyn, therefore i think ill settle for Galadriel. I really like golden hair.

You have very good taste!

What's all this fuss about other characters in the movie? Wasn't Elrond the star?

Eeew! Please! I said I choose Elrond, not Hugo Weaving. Though he is a fine actor, he is no Elrond.

he definetly was no elrond in the movie

Telchar 01-02-2002 12:05 PM

OK I'm facing serious punishment from BW for saying this
.... but réd, I thought you chose Elrond because he was such a BIT** in the movie???

Agent Elrond-the biggest elven stud to have ever graced Middle Earth! (Wait, this is not that type of thread). Hmmm, sorry to jump in here and bore everyone to death with something that's already been said before-but I like Eowyn, because she survives unrequited love. Basically, she is an inspiration to losers such as myself.

onewhitetree 01-02-2002 03:40 PM

Oh come on! Just because he wasn't as girly as Legolas and Haldir and Celeborn and all the other elves. I thought he was great.

Lush 01-02-2002 05:05 PM

Hahahahahaha!!!!
Are you implying that I like (gasp!)girly men?...I mean elves?
I personally would have never liked Legolas had he not been such a skilled warrior. Pretty blue eyes and flowing blond hair only take us so far!
As for Elrond, he definitely has a powerful presence. And as Lara Flynn Boyle said regarding President Vladimir Putin, "Well, power is sexy."
My apologies to everyone who desires the continuation of an advanced discussion! (Well, it's about time we lightened up)

Primula Banks 01-03-2002 06:19 PM

*mutters something that sounds entirely too much like 'Frodo'*

Ah, of the girls? Lets say...Galadriel. Because of her powers, will power among them. Being unfairly hideous myself, I can't say I buy much into beauty. So because of spirit and power, definitely Galadriel.

Luineglin 01-03-2002 06:33 PM

I like Arwen because she chooses to be left behind of basicly her entire people to live among and become a mortal for love. that is a sacrifice that will be bittersweet until the end.

He definately is the Elrond!

Merriam Webster is adding Hottie to their dictionary this year just so he can be properly described

Luineglin 01-04-2002 01:06 PM

he is not the elrond agent maybe but elrond god no.

Eowyn of Ithilien 01-04-2002 03:25 PM

lol nooooo someone was wondering what one of the posts meant and I explained-I believe Weaving played Elrond well as it was written, but it's not the sort of Elrond I had in mind

Luineglin 01-05-2002 07:18 PM

yeah all the roles exept elrond but your right it was the scripts falt

Ghâshgûl 01-18-2002 06:28 PM

I prefer Eowyn because she rebels against her so-called role as woman. And that in a heroic novel where men should be real men and women should be real women and huge stupid stone trolls from the Misty Mountains should be real huge stupid stone trolls from the Misty Mountains !

I liked Eowyn the best, she had a strong will and she never gave up. I liked how she allways wanted to be out there in the middle of everything trying to help others, instead of staying at home doing nothing. Imagine what might have happened if she hadn't been at the battle on the Pelennor Fields..

My real name is Natalia, and I survived unrequited love, though it doesn't make me any less of a loser because the object of my affection was a spaniard who smoked too much pot. At least Eowyn had taste.

..."Fair and cold, like a morning of pale spring that is not yet come to woman-hood." Now, I can identify with that very easily. Thus she remains my favorite.
