FotR Quotes

I'm kinda uncomforable starting a new topic here (this place is so BIG!!) but...

FotR only:

"We were all at fault, and but for your vigilance the Darkness, maybe, would already be upon us. But say on!"

Who said it, to whom, where?

Joy 02-21-2002 01:13 AM

It was spoken to Gandalf by Elrond at the Counsil of Elrond when Gandalf is telling of his encounter with Saurman.

got it!! Go ahead!

Joy 02-21-2002 06:41 PM

Here's one.

Quote:

What did you do to him?
Who said this to whom and in what situation?

Mat_Heathertoes 02-21-2002 06:43 PM

Frodo to Gandalf at the Council of Elrond - regarding Butterbur's failure to send that letter

Quote:

'What did you do to him?', cried Frodo in alarm. 'He was really very kind to us and did all that he could.'

Joy 02-21-2002 08:31 PM

Very good Matt, your turn.

Mat_Heathertoes 02-22-2002 08:16 AM

Quote:

'I know it well, dear friend,'
Who, to whom and where?

Vilya Elathelas of Rivendell 02-22-2002 02:28 PM

sounds like a gandalf to frodo comment...

Mat_Heathertoes 02-22-2002 04:44 PM

Nope!

Joy 03-04-2002 03:35 AM

Bilbo to Gandalf before leaving the Shire??? Just trying to bring this to the top, since no one has posted for days.

Mat_Heathertoes 03-04-2002 08:47 AM

My bad, I've just realised that this is a ROTK quote, I must've been daydreaming and misreading F for L. Anyway, I'll let it stand but add a true FotR one,

Quote:

'Look this way first!'

Bruce MacCulloch 03-04-2002 08:58 AM

Haldir to Frodo, in the flet near Cerin Amroth, showing Frodo the views of Caras Galadon and Dol Guldur.

Glenethor 03-11-2002 02:13 AM

Aragorn to Pippin in the Houses of Healing, when Pippin asks Aragorn to supply him with weed and a pipe, Aragorn rebukes him, and Pippin apologizes.

Mat_Heathertoes 03-11-2002 10:01 AM

Macc is of course, 101& correct as usual .. lead on!

Bruce MacCulloch 03-13-2002 12:23 AM

Quote:

The time has come

Merry 03-31-2002 02:54 PM

Who and Where?

They're mine, given to me by Mrs. Maggot

Joy 03-31-2002 03:32 PM

Merry, your's I believe is Merry Brandybuck at the house in Cricket Hollow. He is speaking of the mushrooms that Mrs. Maggot gave him.

Joy 03-31-2002 03:35 PM

Bruce, is your's "The time has come" Galadriel?

Merry 03-31-2002 11:06 PM

Joy, actually that was Frodo in at Merry's house.

Menewilwarin of Mirkwood 04-03-2002 05:12 AM

Who said..?

1) "If you bring a ranger with you it is well to listen to him, especially if he ranger is Aragorn."

2) [note: this is very easy] "tricksey! false!"

3) "There lie the woods of Lothlorien! That is the fairest of all the dwellings of my people."

4) "I love him, whether or no."

Bruce MacCulloch 04-03-2002 05:17 AM

Menewilwarin, the way we play the game is the same as in the Quiz Room. Whoever answers the last question correctly asks the next one, after the correct answer has been acknowledged by the previous asker.
If you want to post a new quote or question, you should either answer one yourself first, or you can simply make a new topic.

Menewilwarin of Mirkwood 04-03-2002 05:23 AM

there wasn't one to answer...someone answered the last one and no-one put up a new question so i thought i would... theres no need to get stressed. you might as well answer mine since there isn't another question to answer...

Bruce MacCulloch 04-03-2002 03:22 PM

Not stressing, just trying to help explain the rules of the game. We generally give the person seven days to post around here. After that, it's fair game.

Belegfanaion 04-11-2002 05:41 PM

Well, be that the question or no, I shall still strive to answer it. Number 1 is (I think) either Elrond or Lady Galadriel, number 2 is most decidedly Gollum , number 3 is Legolas, and the last quote is from Samwise Gamgee!

Turambar 04-12-2002 01:57 PM

Well Bruce's quote is still unanswered (unless it was Galadriel, which Joy guessed)

Quote:

The time has come.

Belegfanaion 04-12-2002 02:18 PM

Isn't that one from Elrond at his council where they are about to decide the fate of the Ring?

Bruce MacCulloch 04-13-2002 12:40 AM

Still no.
There are actually four possible answers to this one. http://www.plauder-smilies.de/happy/wink.gif

Estelyn Telcontar 04-13-2002 03:37 AM

Bruce, Bilbo says it to Gandalf upon leaving Bag End.

Bruce MacCulloch 04-13-2002 10:31 PM

Yep! That's one of them! Your turn Esty.

Estelyn Telcontar 04-14-2002 06:31 AM

Who said, "It won't be done by sitting and thinking" and to whom?

Bruce MacCulloch 04-14-2002 07:19 PM

Frodo to Farmer Maggot

Estelyn Telcontar 04-15-2002 12:58 PM

Right, Bruce - carry on!

Bruce MacCulloch 04-16-2002 06:39 AM

Quote:

It is as plain as my nose

BoromirTheBold 04-16-2002 03:02 PM

I want to say Gandalf, but I don't think that's right....

Sam?

Mat_Heathertoes 04-16-2002 03:35 PM

Maggot to Frodo :-

Quote:

'It is as plain as my nose that no accident brought you and that rider here on the same afternoon; and maybe my news was no great news to you, after all. I am not asking you to tell me anything you have a mind to keep to yourself; but I see you are in some kind of trouble. Perhaps you are thinking it won't be too easy to get to the Ferry without being caught?'

Bruce MacCulloch 04-16-2002 04:46 PM

Very nice, as usual, Master Heathertoes. Nice to see you back, by the way.

dragongirlG 04-17-2002 07:27 PM

I'm a little nervous here, because all the threads I've been to say "your turn" and are not addressed to me...

Who said this, and who was it said to?
Quote:

Why - you - you're a Brandybuck!
I think it's easy because it's one of the quote things that are on top of the site.

Please don't be mad at me...it's my first post in the Quiz Room.

Mat_Heathertoes 04-18-2002 04:50 PM

Why we don't get mad in here DG.

We just politely smile and point out that the usual policy is that the poser of the question has to first acknowledge that an answer is correct and then the person submitting the right answer has first option to ask another question. If an acknowledgement has not been posted for more than 7 days then it's fair game to anyone ...

Quote:

You'll live to regret it, young fellow! Why didn't you go too? You don't belong here; you're no Baggins, you, you're a Brandybuck!
Lobelia S-B to Frodo at Bag-End concerned some small (but rather valuable) things that had somehow fallen inside her umbrella.

Mat_Heathertoes 04-19-2002 04:31 PM

Nice to be back too Bruce, thank-you.
