'Middle-earth' paintings
 

I just found this site of paintings by Crispin Thornton Jones & couldn't believe how much they reflect my own mental images of Middle-earth.

Any more suggestions for art that evokes Middle-earth (excluding actual illustrations of scenes from the books).

Great paintings. You are referring to the landscapes, I am guessing? Because at first I thought you meant this guy actually made Middle-earth paintings concerning Tolkien and his stories. If you're talking about the landscapes...I agree.

It would be the light, the kind of illumination, as well as the intensity of the colours, in both davem's and StW's artists, which remind you both of Middle-earth? Or simply the kind of geography shown? The land is not wild, but neither is it dominated by agricultural control.

I REALLY like Ted Nasmith's landscapes, though his people are lame.

Those Masterslight paintings are swell, too...though I could do without the new age piano...

Check out this painting by Terbush called "To Stand In The Shadow of God". Its as close as I could ever imagine anyone painting the unspoiled Middle-earth before anyone else arrived there. Some of his landscapes are just amazing for the epic presentation and multi-light sources which give it a feel of other worldlyness.

Yes, its all those things plus the epic nature of the landscapes.

No one has got as close to Middle Earth for me with a brush as this man has with his camera, but then I am probably biased because so many of the pictures are of my local area which I have always thought could double for parts of ME - Eriador certainly.
