Tolkien Reading Day

Is today. Obviously for many of us every day involves reading Tolkien but is anyone doing somethng in particular?

I'm reading the Silmarillion. It's been months, and I haven't finished the book. ;)

The theme this year is "Hope", although of course folks need not limit their reading to that theme.

Ah well in that case I think I shall choose Tuor..

I think I'll go for ROTK and The Land of Shadow. Sam's sight of the untroubled star high above the fumes of Mordor has always inspired me.

In western lands beneath the Sun
the flowers may rise in Spring,
the trees may bud, the waters run,
the merry finches sing.
Or there maybe 'tis cloudless night
and swaying beeches bear
the Elven-stars as jewels white
amid their branching hair.
Though here at journey's end I lie
in darkness buried deep,
beyond all towers strong and high,
beyond all mountains steep,
above all shadows rides the Sun
and Stars forever dwell:
I will not say the Day is done,
nor bid the Stars farewell.

Through darkness you shall come to the light...Anar kaluva tielyanna!

"And over all the silver fire,
that once Men called the Burning Briar,
the Seven Stars that Varda set
about the North, were burning yet.
A light in darkness, hope in woe,
the symbol vast of Morgoth's foe."
