Pardon my ignorance, but where do the visual companions come from, and how does one aquire them?
Any bookstore, pretty much. I got my Fellowship VC from Deseret Book, a local chain; Towers, my grandma got it for me (from Barnes & Noble unless I'm much mistaken); and I bought RotK VC at Borders (actually when Andy Serkis was there doing a signing for his book :D)

Got the Theatrical Version of RotK now. No EV trailer. *pouts* Why must you torture us so, PJ?

EE Trailer

On that interview that I read on TORn I think they said that they hadn't had enough time to do the EE trailer since PJ's involved in King Kong. Who knows. I wish they had one on there too. At least the super trailer made it on there!

Imladris 05-26-2004 02:30 PM

I received this letter from an e-mail. Does anyone know if it's true?

Quote:

Ringer Spy Nathan wrote in with this exciting bit of ROTK EE
speculation:
"Two of my friends and I waited at the Best Buy in Richfield MN ... for
the ROTK DVD. At the end of the night, a New Line Rep keeping a low
profile at the event came up to us and told us how happy he was with our
dedication. [....] We also talked about the EE DVD, and he told us to
expect a January release, or late December, but that was unlikely. He
added that they were looking at first releasing the EE in theatres, and
that a 'super-trilogy' Tuesday was under consideration, but not a
definite, while mentioning that last year's EE releases were very
lucrative for the studio."
Cheers,
Imladris

Enorëiel 05-26-2004 03:39 PM

OH I hope they do another Trilogy Tuesday! Maybe I can actually get tickets this time. It'd prefer it if we got EE on DVD first but then again... seeing it in a theater would be awesome! Nothing like a good midnight showing :D

I hope it's not as late as January though - that's a bit TOO long. I did read, however in Entertainment Weekly that the EE wasn't going to be released until December.

Lathriel 05-31-2004 09:39 AM

I watched through the specials on the ROTK DVD and although they are repetitive I was able to see some things that will be in EE. I got so excited and my brother got annoyed saying I was a freak etc.
Doesn't it just get on your nerves when your younger brother or sister get like that. They obviously don't get the purpose of LOTR and what it is like to be a tolkeinist or whatever they call us.

I feel your pain Lathriel, oh do I ever. Only it's not my younger brother or sister it's my older brother. I am refered to by him as a "LO-TAR freak" honestly, why can't they just understand? :) Ah well the more fun for us.

Lathriel 06-01-2004 10:08 AM

Just a question do any of your siblings make fun of the movie as you are watching it like making funny noises and making fun of the characters. I got so mad when my brother made fun during the coronation scene and even worse when frodo was reunited with his friends. I wanted to strangle him. I watched ROTK twice but i never got to watch it in peace!

Sorry I just had to rant about this, it just bothers me because I never make fun of my brother's hobby which is his train. He has a train table!!! I think that is more geeky than being a LOTR fan

elfearz1 06-01-2004 10:32 AM

blegh

ugh, you poor thing Lathriel. How immature of them. I'd get so annoyed. No, my sisters don't do that. For one, they are all older than me and for two, they're the ones that got me into Lotr. :p

All's fair in love, war, and making fun of siblings' hobbies. My brother makes fun of me liking LotR, and I make fun of him liking Back to the Future. It's all good though, because we both like both (though I like LotR better, and the same with him and BttF).

Not until DECEMBER?!?!?! http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de//eek7.gif That is so many different kinds of not fair! *sob* http://www.handykult.de/plaudersmilies.de//bawling.gif

This support group is what is going to keep me alive untill the EE comes out. Till December...that is a long, long, long wait!!!

Hang in there you guys we can do it.
;)

Tulkas the Mighty 06-07-2004 11:53 PM

I can't wait for the showdown between Gandalf and the Nazgul that they showed parts of in various trailers.... :D :D :D

starkat 06-08-2004 07:39 PM

Coming Soon has an article saying that the EE will be out sometime in December. Not much, but if it's acurate at least they have said what month it'll be out. Question... Has anyone else noticed that the plastic cases for the Theatrical editions and the cases for the EE are the same color?

Lathriel 06-13-2004 06:41 PM

I rented ROTK the week it came out but after I only had time to see it twice I thought about how long it would take for december to come around and I would just rent the movie so many times I would pay more money by renting it then if I just bought it.

Just last week the Blockbuster nearby had ROTK on sale for $12.99!!!! So I bought it. Although the copy is pre-enjoyed it is such a good deal, now I will be able to survive till december!

By the way I also noticed that the cases of the Theatrical version is the same as the EE.

It's that whole continuity thing. Keep the same colour with the same movie. :D

I just thought that was cool the way they did it instead of having the typical black on the TE case.

Well my sister makes fun of me for watching the films too many times. Even though I rarely ever watch it. I very much enjoy the films, but it is just that recently I have been rather short of time, so the films have been getting the backseat. But I do think I may watch them this weekend.

I just can't wait for the Extended Edition. I would really like (I've been thinking about this recently), and hope that they have something in it on the Oscars. I also would love it they could have Billy Crystal's opening for one of the Easter Eggs.

I kind of wish right now though that they would have just kept the theatrical edition on the same release date as they always have had (in August). Because it is hard to get the theatrical and then have to wait such a long time for the Extended.

*snorks at the thought of it* That would be lofty.

I also agree with you, Gorwingel, about the release dates; if they're going to keep us waiting until December for the EV (which is later than the other two were released, BTW), then they should've waited to release the TE until August. It makes more sense and also averts the shrieking mobs of LotR fans trashing the New Line offices.

Abedithon le,

~*~Aranel~*~

Gorwingel 06-19-2004 03:34 PM

Well I doubt that fans would attack the offices. But it is just that the only thing that seems to be angering me now is the seemingly constant shuffling of the release date of this DVD. Could they please just set a date, and stick with it!

I would think for us the sooner it's out the better, but then we also want the best DVD possible, and I would like to think that their high standards of quality is what is causing the date to be pushed back. I would love for the release date to be in November, but if that isn't possible, it does make a great holiday gift (or birthday, because my birthday is in January).

It is just that when I watch my theatrical I always think about the additional scenes that are missing. I really want to see those additional scenes, and I don't want to have to wait another six months to see them! :)

The following may be offensive to the posters of this thread, beware

Said offensive thing you were warned of beforehand is the sad, but true fact that I haven't got no extended editions at all. Yes, your eyes do not deceive you - neither FoTR, nor TTT.

But I'll try to make my amends - I'm waiting for the RoTK EE to buy them all three together and spend one of the week-ends following the purchase with my nose pressed onto the screen, curtains drawn, 'no admittance' sign on the door. Such a manoeuvre will, for one, save me shipping costs (which are quite high for stuff from US to reach this far overseas spot on the map). Besides, well, DVD player was obtained by yours truly just recently, so there was no point in making fuss about extended editions without means of watching mentioned.

So, come, sweet November.

PS I hope to see books less spoiled :p
PPS For the fear of having differences of the plot in previous E-editions accidentally revealed, I fully admitt my fault in not reading the preceeding posts of the thread save opening one. Mea culpa

mollecon 06-30-2004 10:44 PM

:) I doubt that anyone will blame you for not having obtained the first two EE versions. Rather, we admire you for your patience! ;)

Sounds like a great idea to watch them over a weekend - but, don't you have someone to watch them with? Would be nice...

You won't be disappointed (about the first two, at least) - they do bring more depth to the movie.

Btw., I'm a bit envious about where you live - I've heard from reliable sources that it's very beautifull! :smokin:

HerenIstarion 07-01-2004 01:27 AM

Well thank you :D

There are several fellow-companions who were glad to watch in in theaters, but I'm not sure about their willingness to spend 13 hours in a row in enclosed space. But I will make a proposal, of course :)

Indeed, it is very beautiful down here. I especially like October, what with less heat and yellow, red and gold hues to everything around the place.

And, of course, November will be just round the corner then

Announcements and rumors
Return of the King: Extended Edition delayed

By Henning Molbaek

According to New Line the Extended Edition of "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King" will not meet a November release date as the first two films of the trilogy did.

It will be released sometime in December before Christmas. The reason for the delay was given to the difficulties in gathering cast and crew now busy with other movies for the audio commentaries.

We will be back when we have more on this release.

starkat 07-07-2004 07:06 PM

Oh well. I guess that means I get to watch it without school inturrupting. ;) With it coming out in December my classes will almost be over. :)

Knight of Gondor 07-08-2004 09:01 PM

No fair...

We've got to wait until Christmas for this? That's disappointing. Personally, I think it was the result of millions of friends of the members of this board, and Ringers worldwide, begging them to release it around Christmas to give them an easy out, gift-wise. :p

Hot tip

My apologies if this has already come up on this thread, but there are too many posts for me to read through them all to find out. . .

I pre-ordered my EE of TTT from Chapters.ca and was delighted (nay, giddy) when it arrived in the mail the day BEFORE it was slated for official release in the stores.

Of course, my wife went into labour that very day so I didn't have a chance to watch it for a couple of weeks, but at least I got it a day before everyone else (or so it felt at the time).

I plan on preordering ROTK in the same manner in the hopes that my luck will hold. I've told my wife that we can't have any more children until I've had a chance to watch all three EEs back-to-back-to-back.

Sapphire_Flame 07-08-2004 09:57 PM

I had heard that the commentary was finished already.
