Interesting Points

There is many surprising 'revelations' in Tolkien's works that never cease to surprise me.

Firstly, I've just realised that

Quote:

"Ut?ie'n aur? Aiya Eldali?ar Atanat?i, ut?ie'n aur?The day has come! Behold, people of the Eldar and Fathers of Men, the day has come!"
By Fingon at the battle is parallel to

Quote:

Aure Entuluva! Day shall come again!
uttered by by Hurin the Steadfast, which happens to be also parallel to the sentence of Turin Master of Doom in his utter despair,

Quote:

Now comes the night
Secondly, it is funny that Tolkien gives us a hint that Numenor
is what we now refer to as 'Atlantis' by saying that it was called Atlante by later Men.

Thirdly, I was reading the LOTR index and wondering who Thorongil was, when it came to me like a flash that it MUST be Aragorn son of Arathorn.

Anyone have any other thing like these?

Arwen's Pendant

Well, about Arwen's pendant, that is really a really important thing in the whole story. And I think in the movies they really ignored that. It's Aragorn's Name and plus it belonged to Galadriel. It was made for her by an admirer. It's like the opposite of the Ring.

Arwen's pendant is Aragorn's namesake?

Isn't it elfstone, the powerful green stone?

In fact, Arwen had a pendant at all?

It wasn't a pendant, it was a brooch.

"Then she lifted from her lap a great stone of clear green, set in a silver brooch that was wrought in the likeness of an eagle with outspread wings; and as she held it up the gem flashed like the sun shining through the leaves of spring. 'This stone I gave to Celebrian my daughter, and she to hers; and now it comes to you as a token of hope. In this hour take the name that was foretold for you, Elessar, the Elfstone of the house of Elendil!'"

So yes, in a way Arwen's brooch was Aragorn's "namesake". This wasn't included in the movie, but they instead chose to feature the Evenstar. Maybe this is a good thing- if Aragorn had had another name in the movie, it would have been confusing. Yes, Thorongil is Aragorn.

What's interesting about the passage above is that it includes hidden references to Aragorn through his other names.

Aragorn's other name, Thorongil, means 'Eagle of the Star.'

Isn't the sun a star? So you have an eagle reference and a star reference with the brooch. Incidentally, one of the other tokens of Aragorn's house was the Elendilmir, or the Star of Elendil... but I digress.

Aragorn's name as Elrond's foster son was Estel. Estel is elvish for 'hope'.

Interesting, no? (Just say yes! ;) ;) )

And to further add to that...there were several references (I think I counted four or five) where Aragorn is described as seeming to have a star on his brow. ^_^

Different people called him different things. Some of the names Aragorn chose, but things like Longshanks and Wingfoot were just names given him by people at first observance of a special trait or quality that Aragorn possessed. I think it's kind of cool.

Yes, I believe I never noticed that! Interesting! ^^
