The Historical Roots of Gandalf - wow, where should be put this?

Hi guys (yes, I'm still alive and poke my head in from time to time). A friend of a friend has written an essay on the historical roots of Gandalf detailing Finnish legend and a variety of information that is not available on the web.

I've suggested that she post it in the Books forum, but I think it's rare enough that we might want it in some of the more permanent files. Esty? Barrow-wight? Mith? What should she do?

- Maril

PS - Yes, I'm still buried in scrolls of fanfiction.

I am the friend in question (and a he, might I add ;) ) - Maril pretty much covered what I was about to ask. The paper really has a lot of stuff that wasn't discussed in any secondary sources I could find, and for the interest of future scholars who are interested in the topic I'd really like to have a permanent home for the paper. The Barrow Downs seems to be the ideal place for seekers of arcane lore regarding Tolkien...

Humbly,

NorthSaber

Welcome to the Downs!

Excuse me a moment while I cringe, terribly embarrassed. I did say friend of a friend didn't I? :p Rick never mentioned either way and your email name enlightened me no further. Ah, well, I had a 50/50 chance of getting right.

Welcome to the Downs, NorthSaber, and good to see you posting again, Maril! Go ahead and post your essay on the Books forum; that will give interested members a chance to read it and add their comments. Perhaps it can also be added to the articles on the BD main site later on, but this is the best way to get a start. It would be great to get a scholarly discussion going again!

Hi Esty, nice to be back. Things have changed a little around here, haven't they?

Should NorthSaber post it as a link, or the piece in its entirety (it's rather long)? Currently he (ahem) has it as a link and I'm a little worried that won't be conducive to discussion.

If the link doesn't 'break', that's the way to go.
