The History of Gollum

After reading the first to LotR books and gradually making my way into the RotK, Gollum has become a very important character mainly in TTT. At the beginning of the FotR a brief history was given about how the ring was eventually found by a creature that became "mutant" after spending so much time with the ring.

I was wondering if anyone knew the exact history of Gollum and where he came from before he inhabited the Misty Mountains. Thanks

Look up Gollum in the Middle Earth Encycolpedia from the Barrowdowns homepage. It's got a thorough history of Gollum there. Welcome to the Downs!

Here's another great information source from the site's main page - Gollum was one of the past themes. Enjoy reading!

Wasn't Gollum a river folk, or was it a hobbit?
