The greatest Land
Which land of Middle Earth do you find to be most captivating or mysterious?
|
Most captivating: Angband (FA), Mordor (SA, TA)
Most mysterious: the Enchanted Isles :D :D |
Most captivating: Lorien (the one in Valinor, and the land of Galadriel)
Most mysterious: Numenor; the White Mountain where Manwe and Varda live; the Ring of Doom where the Valar hold council :) Valinor is the most mysterious and captivating for me.... :) |
Lothlorien on reading The Fellowship of the Ring the first time. The description was so capitvating and mysterious; it really caught my attention that first time as the Fellowship went on without Gandalf from the mountains (a familiar place as I had read The Hobbit already) - I still imagine the transition to be a capitvating and fantastic one. I thought this was captured beautifully in the movie - part of why it was my favourite of the films.

for me, it has to be the shire. anything concerning the elves will obviously be thought of as mysterious and beguiling. the shire and it's inhabitants prove to be the most enigmatic. as gandalf said himself, you can spend a month with hobbits,
and still not know them. the shire exudes an otherworldly charm, much the same as those native to it's lands. |
Khand: What kind of geography is it? From their breif description, they sound like Mongols, or other central asian nomads on horseback.
Rhun: This land that two wizards dissapeared into. What sort of temples and cities are here? Only Aragorn and Suruman could answer. Harad: Land of Mumakil. Are their any ports or cities similar to the Swahilii city-states? If the Mumakil are here, what other sabertoothed cat or ape could one find in the desert or jungle? Upper Misty mountains, Mts of Angmar/Carn Dum, Grey mountains: Gundaband? How grand is it compared to Khazad-dum? Could stand on a precipice on the grey mts, and look north to a tundra, and turn around to see a forest? Dragons bred there? How do dragons breed? These land on the extremes of the map interest me so much. ________ Best portable vaporizer |
I best like the house of Elrond (Not really a land) but I loved how Lothlorien had a dark and angelic beauty to it.

Most captivating: Rhovannion in general and specifically
both the various polities of elves, men, and dwarves, and how they seemed to generally ineract in such harmony (Hollin on a grand scale). Most mysterious: The area of the Sea of Rhun. Who lived there at various times, what was it like, how might JRRT have utilized it in other tales of Middle-earth, (how was wine made there :D ), etc. Of course, as Tolkien observed, that's part of the interest of Middle-earth, barely glimpsed areas, vistas, stories. |
Rivendell rocks!!!
|
most captivating: Gondor
most mysterious: I would have to say Moria, because of the once great kingdom of dwarves that once dwelt there have all left their god-like halls oh yeah, and lorien is pretty mysterious too. and creepy. most interesting: Mordor |
I would have to say that the most captivating lands, sorry can't choose just one, would have to the Shire, Bree and Rohan and the most mysterious land in all of Middle Earth would have to the Barrow-Downs.
