Legolas and Gimli...fiddling around the City?
I find it odd that Tolkien makes no mention of Legolas or Gimli after arriving at the Battle of the Pelennor Fields, until The Last Debate, if I recall. I can not remember if an explanation was given by them when they at last appear. I am currently re-reading the books and I'm about to read The Last Debate...I apologize if the answer will be seen right before my eyes!
But what do you think L & G were doing all the time Gandalf, Aragorn, & co. were busy with The Houses of the Healing? |
Wandering the streets while Gimli talks about the skills of his people.

I'm sure the pubs of Minas Tirith experience the custom of an elf and dwarf for the first time in many a year :D

I guess they received a guide tour through the city, just like Pippin when he first arrived there.
Probably they weren't in much mood for drinking, I think they had enough problems at that time to party. Probably they also helped the Gondorians burry the bodies of those fallen in battle. I guess Gimli also helped with the repairs of the city, since it is clear he had knowledge of masonry as seen during the Battle at Helm's Deep when he gives indications for blocking the narrow channel beneath the wall. Legolas probably had knowledge of healing and probably helped the sick and wounded. |
Haha, besides Gimli's bragging. I actually just answered my own question last night, as it reads in the first couple of lines in "The Last Debate" that Legolas and Gimli "begged" for leave into the City in the morning after the battle so they could see Pippin and Merry. So they must have been on the field, perhaps helping with the dead, as The Might said.
