A few Questions about Silmarillion....
Okay, I am reading Silmarillion at this current moment in time and I am a wee bit confused about a few things and I have a few questions, like:
-What happened to Turin to make him so wild in the first place? After he killed Saeros. -Is Beleg Strongbow a Sindar? Or Silvan? -Is the metal, Galvorn, used again after Maeglin is killed? I know I will have more later...but that's it pretty much. -Manelwen [ April 23, 2002: Message edited by: Manelwen ] |

Blue pixie! Welcome - do I know you from somewhere? Could it be the fact that you are sitting right next to me that makes you so familiar? Anyway, whoever you are, welcome, and please be sensible!

I don't believe that galvorn is ever mentioned again.
I always had the idea that galvorn was off of an asteroid. I don't think that there is any text about that, but it does fit. Strange metal, never used again, it could be. By the way, Manelwen, that's a really pretty blue circle thingy. (What is it? I can't decide if it's a butterfly or a pair of swans or something totally different.) |
Swans.
I sorta needed to know about the Galvorn thing because I was making a story where the warrior was decked out in it...Thanks. -Manelwen Oh that's creepy...the artilery is practicing a few miles away, and the pictures are shaking on the wall... [ April 29, 2002: Message edited by: Manelwen ] |
They have artillery in Alqualondë?

Kuruharan, I thought galvorn was from a meteorite? - I got to look it up...
burrahobbit, monkeys? - hahahaha, good one! |
Meteorite, asteriod...whatever.
Big hunka metal rock thingy that fell out of the sky. |
Er...yes...in this Alqualonde, they do...It is er...CFB Alqualonde...
I thought that Galvorn was a mineral that Maeglin found and wrought into armor. He supposedly found it while visiting dwarves and they said it was useless and was ugly. Maeglin saw something else in it and brought it with him back to his home and created armor from it. -Manelwen |
That's what I think Galvorn is too. No wait! It isn't. It's not from an asteroid, but when Maeglin went to Gondolin, he would usually mine and stuff and in the caves in Gondolin, he found that metal.Or was that something else......I don't know but I think that's it. NO wait! It is the metal from the asteroid. It's the black metal used by Eol, Maeglin's father, and Turin's sword, given to him by Beleg. And I quote...
"'Iron of Death', the name given by Túrin Turambar to Beleg's black sword Anglachel after its reforging in Nargothrond. The mate of Anguirel" End quote. I love saying that. |
I thought that Anglachel was charred when Turin killed Beleg with the blade. Then, the smiths repaired it but it was never returned to its complete state (I think it got zapped by lightening or something...I dunno and I can't find my Silmarillion book anywhere...). Hm...I'll have to look that up because its bothering me...

I just figured out why Anglachel turned black...because it was a unique sword and mourned for Beleg. It turned black and went blunt, like Beleg's blood had scorched it. The sword was sharpened by never was fully restored, it was still black.

Maybe that is where I got the idea about the asteriod, I thought I'd seen it somewhere. Alas, I can't look it up. I'm in the middle of a move and my books are all packed up.
