How old did Faramir live to be?

I can't find anything in The Tale of Years. Does anybody know Faramir's death date?

Beleg Cuthalion 06-04-2007 12:52 PM

He died in 3103 ( Fourth Age 82 ) Born in T.A.year 2983.

And Ewoyn?

The Might 06-05-2007 06:23 AM

The date of her death is nowhere recorded.
Though if we speculate that she lived about as long as her brother Eomer, then she probably died somewhere around 60-70 IV.

Thanks! All due respect, I know what year he was born in. :)

Where did you find this? The Tale of Years? Letters? UT?

I figured that. I just added his birthdate for anyone else who might be looking and want to know. :)

And where I got it, I don't own any of those books :( so I have some web sites that I have to use.

The date of Faramir's death appears in the "Ruling Stewards of Gondor", HoME XII.

I don't doubt I'll get reprimanded for this but, I see that after I assisted MatthewM with his little problem that a most kind person nicely told me (along with a pretty little red squre) to get the books because “most websites are trash” but did not seem willing to state their user name (I wonder why…) although maybe I shouldn’t be to hard, after all perhaps they did not take into consideration that not everyone has the resources to get all the books that they would like… Makes my day to see something when I get this for helping.

Btw, to who ever you are, I know that a lot of Tolkien websites are not great, but there are some that are unbelievably well put together and vast resources. I don't appreciate that you seem to think me so stupid and naive.

Annals of arda

Here’s an interesting essay from another site

Frodo's Success

These are the only two sites I use

I hope you didn't take my post in a mean way, because "MatthewM and his little problem" strikes me as a negative throw at me. I didn't mean any offense, at any rate.

And it wasn't a problem, by the way. It's called a question.

Yes it's a question, but you don't have the answer and you are looking for assistance becuse you can't find it, so I think you could also say it's a small or little problem.

In retrospect maybe I should have pm'd one of the mods about this, but it's a little late for that now.

My friend, it's a question, it isn't a problem. My life would not have been affected if I did or did not learn of Faramir's death date.

Finduilas 06-07-2007 09:56 AM

I think the problem is... Both of you are using a the word problem in a different way. Beleg mean problem as in a math question, which is often if not always called a math problem. MatthewM is thinking of a problem in the more complex/dangerous way.

Of course, I am just jumping to conclusions over what you think, and also I am butting into a conversation, but I didn't want either of you to think badly of eachother, so I felt it my duty to explain, since I thought I might have the answer to the question.

It seems the Downers have the special and interesting ability of changing any thread, no matter how banal the topic is, into a real discussion...:D

Finduilas 06-07-2007 01:27 PM

Well, MatthewMs first question was answered, so why not?

The Sixth Wizard 06-10-2007 03:31 AM

Because soon the Chat Skrewl will bear down upon us!

As for the Downers' ability, it is because they are intelligent and have a lot of time on their hands... ;)

Finduilas 06-10-2007 07:17 AM

I don't know if this is a good place to ask, but we are on the subject..

Are quick question threads closed once their questions are answered? Will this thread be eventually shut down?

Estelyn Telcontar 06-10-2007 07:34 AM

Moderator's note

We rarely close threads; though the initial question may be answered, it's always possible that someone will have additional thoughts on the topic later one, or will use the thread to ask a related question. Until then, the thread may drop way down on the list if it is no longer of current interest to any members.

If someone is desirous of having a thread closed, there are several ways to accomplish that:

1. Flaming.

2. Chat.

3. Individual introduction (Those get closed and deleted routinely.)

There - this is a prime example! I'm answering not the original question, but another one... ;)
