Aragorn's Coronation Song

Aragorn's song at his Coronation, to me, is one change that PJ made to the story that fits perfectly. Viggo's melody is awesome. The hymn combined with the white flowers, etc.- makes for a great scene.

Does anybody else appreciate this part of the film? Afterall, PJ didn't stray too much from the book in Aragorn's song...in case anybody forgot in the book, Aragorn did not sing it, only spoke it. Both great, indeed.

Well, to be honest, no. :p

I think the whole coronation scene was quite horrible. Or the beginning is okay, but Viggo's speech is horrible and uncharismatic, and the song makes me laugh. In fact, A Little Green and I love imitating it. :D Partly for that purpose, I went through the pain of learning the song, both the melody and the "lyrics". Then I came to appreciate it to some extent, because it is actually quite a beautiful little tune. But I still think the scene and the song are somewhat ridiculous...

I'm confused- you mean you like it but you don't?!

Anyway, I'm sure there are some who will like it, some who will not. I won't hold it against ya!

I think the song is quite good, for several reasons. First, it fits very well as a part of the scene, which, though poorly written (Arwen hiding behind the sheet? What?), is one of the best filmed sequences in the ROTK, in terms of being an artistic whole. Second, it's a good interpretation of that particular scene in the book - among the creative liberties that PJ took, this is by far one of the most legitimate and effective. Third, the tune is both catchy, solemn, and moving, and I like to sing it quietly to myself.

That's probably my favorite track on the whole soundtrack, actually.

I think I just might second that. It's a very singable tune, I also like to sing it to myself...also knowing what it means is really cool. It's kind of like an oath you are pledging to yourself in a way.

It's a long time that I have watched the movie, but I remember that somewhere in the "making of..." DVD it is said that the music was composed by Viggo Mortensen. Again, if I remember correctly, Viggo was exhausted and feeling miserable when that scene was being made and his acting may have been affected by that.
