Morgoth's Foot...
Hello, everybody. My friend has just recently read the Silmarillion for the first time, and we were discussing it not too long ago. As we were, he brought an interesting point to mind. When Fingolfin and Morgoth duel, The Silmarillion says the Fingolfin hews Morgoth's foot. Now, does that mean that it was cut, or cut all the way off? There has probably been a topic about this, but if there is, I can't find it. Any of your input would be helpful. Thank you.

Yeah, there was a thread about this a little while ago, but I'm to lazy to find it.
I had always believed that Morgoth's whole foot had been cut off, but I was convinced of the error of my ways when somebody pointed out that after the War of Wrath Morgoth's feet were cut off. So Fingolfin just got a part of the foot apparently. (Although, it did say that he was "halt" of a foot forever after. Oh well, feet is pretty convincing.) Ah, the glorious misconceptions of the past! |
