Two poems by Tolkien found in 1936 school magazine
There's an interesting article by Alison Flood in the UK newspaper The Guardian, which says that 2 poems by Tolkien were found in the 1936 Annual of Our Lady's School, Abingdon, Oxfordshire:
http://www.theguardian.com/books/201...chool-magazine They were found when Wayne Hammond contacted the school's headteacher, Stephen Oliver, after having found a note by Tolkien referring to the 2 poems. The poems are 'Noel', about Christmas, and 'The Shadow Man', an early version of the poem published as 'Shadow-Bride' in The Adventures of Tom Bombadil (1962). This find took place a few years ago, and was mentioned online here: https://wayneandchristina.wordpress....lkien-notes-8/ But the article in The Guardian gives the full texts of the 2 poems, if people would like to take a look. |
