Feanor and Saruman
I know we've all discussed the topic of Aule's pupils going bad, because of similarity to Melkor's mindset before, so this topic may seem a little similar to previous ones, but could Feanor and Saruman have been friends at one point? Or how about rivals? Both were very much alike, great pupil's of Aule, possessive and selfish, and both turned from their paths to find evil and folly. Both had raven black hair also. And who knows, maybe long before Melkor had seduced Sauron, Saruman and Sauron were best buddies as well. It does make a lot of sense later on. So Saruman and Feanor, Curunir and Curufinwe, were they friends or rivals under Aule's tutilege?

If I am not mistaken, Curunir and Curufinwë were sons of Fëanor, hence they were brothers.
Interesting thoughts, O Keeper! |
They were sons of Feanor. Keeper, I just don't see the connection. Maybe you could rephrase the question?

Curufin and Celegorm were sons of Fëanor. Curunir was Saruman's name, while Curufinwë was one of Fëanor's names. The Keeper was pointing out the similarity between Fëanor and Saruman's names.
I can imagine that, with Fëanor it would have been more about rivalry than friendship, at least where his craft was concerned. Also it is said that Fëanor always worked alone and almost never sought help or advice from others. It's an interesting question, but of course due to lack of information all we can do is speculate. |
A thought that myself, as I listened to the Silm on CD, rivalry rather than friendship. But not a bloodlust rivalry or anything like that. Though it is speculation, we know for a fact that Olorin and Radagast hung out with the elves that accompanied their mentor Valar, so it only seemed likely that this could happen with others. Maybe even, long before Sauron was coerced to the dark side, he and Saruman where buddies or rivals, we'll never know, but makes a lot of sense.
